President Barack Obama will release a comprehensive new US Africa strategy Thursday, seeking to boost trade, strengthen peace and security and bolster democratic institutions.
The blueprint will notably seek to encourage the "stunning" potential of economic growth to lift millions out of poverty in a continent more often associated with famine, poverty and strife, a senior US official told AFP.
The plan will be unveiled nearly three years after Obama, the son of a Kenyan father, laid out his priorities for the often crisis-scarred continent in Ghana, on the sole trip of his presidency so far to sub-Saharan Africa.
Obama directed staff to sketch a new strategy in a four-month process to focus on the multiple challenges of the continent, which include famine, drought and instability, but also to exploit emerging growth potential.
"This strategy commits the United States to be proactive in the face of the numerous challenges and opportunities that we have identified," the senior official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The White House will target four main areas of focus: strengthening democratic institutions, encouraging economic growth, trade and investment and prioritizing peace and security as well as promoting development.

How many Billions is this going to cost us?
Big plan for African economic growth, America, not so much!
Let him return to the land of his birth 00 I am sure all good things will follow him, as he said would happen here.
Africa Over America
Obama’s new slogan.
Thanks Free ThinkerNY.
And right now the vacuum in Africa is being filled by Red China and Al Qaeda.
Neither of them are our fir ends.
So Obumo wants to go bigtime and bail out a continent.
Who can say he didn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
If Obumo devises a plan to get money to Africa, you can bet 90% will be classically laundered for his benefit,
and,
His half-brother will still be living in a Stinking Hut!!!
In fact, not only are they not our “fir ends”, they are not our friends either.
Well, he’s going to lock up the Zimbabwean vote for sure now. Genius.
The best Africa policy is to ignore it. Africa is a contenent made up of mostly backward despotic states. They really don’t have a whole lot to offer the rest of the world except South Africa’s diamonds. Aside from that just about the whole of the continent is a place for the civilized world to waste it’s citizens tax dollars. The problems in Africa are of their own making, we should politely disengage and let them sort out their problems themselves.
Trillions. As a Senator, he had a bill for almost a trillion in African aid. Aka, donations to our enemies.
More than likely Obama wants to lock up a couple billion in stash money somewhere in Africa to have a “bolt hole” that he can take off to just in case the heat gets too hot in America.
Buy himself his own country?
King of Obamalalaland?
Plundering the golden goose...that has always been the goal with BO. We peons will get to keep our “fair share” of the world’s riches - regardless if some of us work and many of us do not. And of course the real goal is for zero to look like a hero to the world for stealing from us.
There is a lot more going on than the US public is being let in on. There is talk going on of NG units being told they will be heading there in the. Ext year...
Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll get run over by a running Rino...;)
Summary: We’re going to keep spreadin’ your wealth to the black folks back in Africa. You freaking racists. You better re-elect me or you’re racist. Shut up, I’m taking more of your money and pissing it away over in Africa and you can’t do jack sh1t about it.
Even then the ban on DDT may have to be lifted.
And a cure for AIDS found.
Tribalism related killing eradicated.
Lethal superstition greatly reduced.
Etc.
Africa has a lot of built in resistance to being improved.
