Gov. Mike Leavitt told journalists and Utahns Thursday it's time to get past all this concern over polygamy and move on to more pressing issues.
Still trying to define himself on the polygamy question, Leavitt said in his monthly KUED Channel 7 news conference he's taking a "a hard line on clear crimes" committed by polygamists. But moments later he admitted he's turned the matter over to Attorney General Jan Graham - in her official capacity as the state's chief law officer - and county prosecutors.

Leavitt took the opportunity Thursday to correct a statement he made a month ago at the KUED press conference. Then he said polygamy was a tough matter because it may be protected under the Constitution's free exercise of religion clause. "It's not," he said Thursday.
Leavitt said the state doesn't prosecute polygamists for three reasons: It is difficult to prove, there are legal issues pertaining to how to deal with children, and prosecutors say it is a low priority.

In recent weeks as journalists from around the world have come to Utah to talk polygamy, the governor has forwarded responsibility to Graham. Graham's office has said that she will prosecute crimes but in turn has forwarded responsibility to local county prosecutors.
Later in the press conference, after several jokes about "less controversial questions," Leavitt was asked how he could say he was taking a hard line when the state isn't prosecuting openly polygamist practitioners such as Allred.
"Those decisions," Leavitt said, "are the responsibility of the attorney general and 29 elected county attorneys. That question should be posed to them."

What caused him to comment on polygamy ???
Was he asked ???
What was the Q ???
Kind of a non-issue now anyway, considering popular culture encourages “marriage” between two of the same gender. What’s the big deal about a third...or fourth? What the hay.. make it 10!
He is also a big supporter of Romneycare, err Obamacare...

Perhaps this is why Romney has been pro-homosexual marriage. First normalize that, then polygamy, then...? Pagans know no divine boundaries— just whatever the society will accept at the moment.
Are Romney or Leavitt for Polygamy?
Didn’t think so.
In context, it is necessary to understand this is UTAH we are talking about.
The issue of Polygamy prosecution is apparently a troubling one there. Most Mormons don’t practice it or condone it, but some of them do, and what to do about them is a UTAH troubling issue.
Leavitt apparently resolved his confusion that possibly Polygamy is protected under freedom of religion by later saying he now knows it is not.
YOU, the poster of this thread, may believe the story of Romney’s Leavitt appt. is about Polygamy, but it isn’t about that.
Leavitt has held very high-level, federal appt. jobs under President Bush, as well as having been a long-time governor of Utah.
He isn’t a new face on the scene.
I have known of him for years.
You are cherry picking, trying to force feed us like we were babes in the woods.
And that’s the truth.

Another thing that Romney will have to do to keep from being DUMPED in Tampa is to immediately fire his new appointee, Mike Leavitt, to head his transition team, and replace him with someone who wants to REPEAL AND ABOLISH Obama/Romneycare FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If polygamy comes up in the next four to eight years, it will be on the heals of the gay agenda, fueled by the same anti cultural mob that pushes perversion now, and Romney will have nothing to do with it. I would be more concerned about Ron Paul signing onto it.
Why is this an issue, but the TLC show “Sister Wives” is not? Also, all polygamy charges vs. those freaks have just been dropped.
Strange days we live in.
The Republican party was founded to fight against Mormon polygamy and Southern Black slavery.
Now the Mormons are mostly Republicans and the blacks are all Democrats.
Leavitt has to be fired.
Since I won’t be voting for Romney or Obama or the GOPE who gave us these two, but down ticket only, I will say that Romney is a Bishop of the Mormon sect, but a nominal Mormon who flip flops on his rudderless religion as easily as he does on the Republican platform, which is meaningless, but, you get my drift here. He is an empty suit on religious issues, except for being the first to box in Catholic institutions in MA on their religious liberty, which was apparent in forcing Romneycare there, the template used by Barack Obama.
The worst of Obamacare/Romneycare is before the Supreme Court today but with Obama’s name on it—that is, religious liberty as affected by the individual mandate, which forces the religious self insurers to provide for abortion regardless of the tenents of their faith.
Doubt Romney nor Leavitt actually give a large rip about polygamy either way. It is simply the proclivity of Romney and Obama to support Marxist redistribution of wealth in their mutual care packages (RomneyObamaCare) and the ease with which they are both willing to forcefully compel a religion to dump their faith and PAY for abortion in the name of fiscal stewardship. Yuk.
Ron Paul has a problem of clarification as to what all he is willing to ignore in the name of libertarian purity. Does he give a rip about social issues (pot) or religious issues (marriage as a sacrament) which are not expressly defined and addressed in the Constitution as if it were a dang dictionary?
This is what decay looks like. Two empty suits are propped up by two parties who have obviously melled into one, and a morally and religiously confused and divided populace quite willing to comply with anything, in exchange for just a little Peace and Safety. The price, of course, will be liberty. But we know that already.
Gad.
What a moronic, out of context, ancient history bunch of crap. Crawl back under your slimy rock. Bet you’re a troll for soros!
THE BOOK OF JACOB
THE BROTHER OF NEPHICHAPTER 224 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTSSECTION 1325157, Emma Smith is counseled (commanded) to be faithful and true; 5866, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.51 Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to aprove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, areceive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God.53 For I am the Lord thy God, and ye shall obey my voice; and I give unto my servant Joseph that he shall be made ruler over many things; for he hath been afaithful over a few things, and from henceforth I will strengthen him.55 But if she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an ahundredfold in this world, of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, houses and lands, wives and children, and crowns of beternal lives in the eternal worlds.
