Mitt Romney has named former Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt to lead his presidential transition team should he win November's general election, the Republican presidential candidate's campaign confirmed Monday.
-SNIP-
Leavitt, Romney's pick to lead a potential transition, was elected governor of Utah in 1992, and went on to hold the office for ten years. He was governor of the state when Romney headed the Salt Lake City Olympic Organizing Committee in 2002.
In 2003 Leavitt was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He later became Bush's Secretary of Health and Human Services.

You can spank that one

That was actually a great post on a never ending contentious thread
I eschew seeing old timers here devour one another
And i find TBL to be Clown Posse part IV more or less
Where the tone is more “what culture war?” and very non southern populated.....i mean Sinkspur is the forum high priest....all they need is Howlin for a full dance card
But other than Mitts mushiness i have no dog in this fight
Shame....none of this is very productive at this point
Coming from you, I am very grateful that especially you might appreciate my point of view. Something in my stomach tenses painfully if I dared to mess against religious liberty for someone, by any word of mine, when that other religion is quite benign, so far, toward my own and when it poses, so far, no threat whatsoever to my freedom and liberty in the USA. The man, IMHO, is an empty suit in all things, with his proficiency being mostly in his own quest for more and better things for himself.
I don’t know who is an old timer here, nor even how to click to find out, but for you I imagine the contention is hard to have to see among these old timers—especially over a cult religion sprung from nowhere, out of the very recent past relatively speaking.
Thank you, big guy. :)
” If we stop Obama now, well have a chance to build some grass roots support for a good conservative to take over. “
I think we have swallowed that canard for 25 years too long. No one wants to remember history, so we repeat it. Pavlov threw the dogs the same ole bone because they were willing to jump through the same old hoops to get it. The Republican Party wants to move us to the left. They have given us a socialist as our nominee. There are no conservatives in DC empowered to do anything. The libertarians are giving it a run, but even that takes time.
Progressively, with each election, things are worse and after this primary nomination, it will be even worse next time. Why? Because we are willing to be brain washed to believe that each successive election is the last one before disaster, so we just must vote for the socialist the Establishment has placed at the top of our ticket. Why would they ever want to change their tactic if we willingly comply Every. Single. Time.
It is a travesty, and in order for us to ever earn a seat at the table with the Establishment, WE have to first remove them and bring down their indoctrination attempts. Republicans have to lose, for us to have hope of ever winning a turn around for our country, which requires a conservative nominee.
Nicely stated.
I did not say that the other religion is benign in itself. I said “that....religion is benign, so far, to my own, and poses no threat, so far, to freedom and liberty of my country.
I said “so far”. I was speaking to MY experience and MY observations.
If it turns out to be a Trojan Horse, I will gladly take up your argument but it is not apparent to me, SO FAR, that Romney’s cult and cult titles are secondary compared to his political record which IS a threat.
That is not a defense of mormonism which I know nothing about. It’s about Romney being a socialist, which I do know something about.
Yea!! I get a bone, yes?

;-)))
We tend to agree on this point; but we rabid anti-MORMONismists are concerned MORE about ETERNAL consequences: the effect of placing such a high HONOR upon a man who is either a DECEIVED MORMON, or a DECEIVING Mormon.
There are those on FR that poo-poo the idea that MITT being president will cause anyone to decide to be MORMON.
I am not one of them.
That's simple enough to learn.
Simply place your cursor over their screen name, and a little box pops up with their FR birthdate in it.

Awww, Rita...perhaps you would change your perception of "benign" if you realize your religion, no matter what it IS is under attack every day by 52,000 missionaries, thousands of web sites, radio ads and TV ads as being false.....and mormon leaders actually BOAST of this attack.
"My young brethren of the priesthood, I testify of the majesty, but most of all, of the certainty of this magnificent event. The Savior lives. He will return to the earth (the Second Coming) . And whether on this side of the veil or the other, you and I will rejoice in His coming and thank the Lord that He sent us to earth at this time to fulfill our sacred duty of helping prepare the world for His return the mormon theocracy
."other people, who may not yield full obedience to his laws, nor be fully instructed in his covenants, will, nevertheless, have to yield full obedience to his government. For it will be the reign of God upon the earth, and he will enforce his laws, and command that obedience from the nations of the world which is legitimately his right (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: John Taylor [2001], 225).

Anyone who believes that Romney isn't fully immersed in this doctrine and the Law of Consecration is a fool: The Law of Consecration is considered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be a "celestial law." That is, people who are living lives dedicated to the service of God, such that at judgment they would be assigned to the Celestial Kingdom, should be able and expected to live the Law of Consecration. The Law of Consecration is that, if necessary or requested, a person would give everything he has for the building up of the Kingdom of God on Earth. He would be willing to wholeheartedly give of his time, talents, and resources. Thus, the person is "consecrating" all his personal resources to the Lord.
The law of consecration, said Elder Bruce R. McConkie (191585) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, is that we consecrate our time, our talents, and our money and property to the cause of the Church; such are to be available to the extent they are needed to further the Lords interests on earth. As we sustain Thomas Spencer Monson as prophet, seer, and revelator and President of the Church, and D. Todd Christofferson as an Apostle and member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, we have seen and felt evidence that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is both true and living. The Lord spoke to those through whom He restored the Church in the latter days. He said of them that they might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually This is the true Church, the only true Church,
That sounds a bit strong. UNinformed fits as well.
