JERUSALEM, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Geneticists at an Israeli hospital said they have found a unique Jewish genetic mutation among an American Indian tribe, indicating that they are descendants of Jews expelled from Spain 600 years ago, local Haaretz daily reported on Wednesday.
The findings of the study, conducted at the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv, show that a group of Indians from the State of Colorado bear the so-called "Ashkenazi mutation," on the BRCA1 gene - a marker unique to European Jews.
While such so-called "secret Jews," or "Anusim" in Hebrew, whose families assimilated into various north and south American cultures hundreds of years ago after journeying to the New World are more and more known, this is the first time an Indian tribe has shown the gene.
Those Jews were believed to be descendants of a Jewish man who left Europe and settled in south America about 600 years ago - likely among the hundreds of thousands of Jews expelled by Spain in 1492, and possibly among those who sailed with Christopher Columbus, according to the report, which appears in the European Journal of Human Genetics.
So why did so many of these vote for 'bam?
An inconvenient truth which shouldn’t interfere with an entertaining thread. More likely an Ashkenasi hooked a ride with the Vikings.
Again, the Jews of Spain were Sephardic, so their descendants wouldnt have Askenasi genes.
Should have invented steel smelting, the wheel and the gun.

So it turns out after all that Elizabeth Warren is in fact part Cherokee!
IQ has nothing to do with common sense.
I have a friend who converted to Judaism after her family had been Catholic for generations and hundreds of years.
They traced her lineage and she was able to convert in some short hand method instead of doing the whole Shiksa to JAP thing.
She tells the Joke:
“When I was Catholic I had fake jewelry and real orgasms.
Now I have fake orgasms and real jewelry”.
Who knew?(shrugs shoulders, makes neck disappear)
It does pose a link to the new world. That is my understanding as well.
The bulk of Spanish Jews were Sephardim but there was certainly trade and other contact among the Jews of Spain and the Jews of central Europe. It is an impossibility that there was no mixing among groups.
Fortunately, 80% of the Jewish immigrants to the USA are Ashkenazi.
...But it's the Sephardim, especially the Mizrahim, that are the furious fighters. I'm an expert on the subject, I'm married to one.
ping.
A good point, but not a foolproof one. There was significant contact back and forth, they aren't hermetically sealed groups.
I'd like to see the source though, Xinhua is only slightly more reliable than Debka.
...and 80% voting demorats...:-)
Actually, they may as well have been. The families did not intermarry back then. Furthermore, the Askenasi were originally Khazars who converted to Judaism circa 1200 A.D. - no connection to Israel.
My name is Tonto. Tonto Goldstein.
So it's logical that Jewish Conversos would have been among the first to seize an opportunity to leave Old Spain for New Spain starting in the middle and latter half of the sixteenth century. Their only alternatives would have been tiny but tolerant Holland or continued dhimmitude in Muslim North Africa and the Ottoman Empire. Jews were not allowed back into Britain till after Cromwell took power in the 1600's.
My old Jewish pal was a heavy drinker. Must of been his Injun blood, blood!
Hah. I was about to post that one.
> “The Jews expelled from Spain were Sephardim, the Ashkenasi lived in Russia and Eastern Europe.”
Yes, I was puzzled that they’d mention the Ashkenazi mutation when the Spanish Jews were Sephardic. Also the article says “likely among the hundreds of thousands of Jews expelled by Spain in 1492”, but if they were “expelled”, they were neither converts nor secret Jews pretending to be Christians, neither of which were expelled.
Certainly some secret Jews might have come to the Spanish colonies, but the article says “such so-called ‘secret Jews,’ or ‘Anusim’ in Hebrew”, seemingly assuming that persons with that genetic marker must be part of that group. There’s no way, though, that genetics can distinguish between descendants of secret Jews and descendants of actual converts.
