It’s a ridiculous law and at $250 per violation its obviously not about safety.
It’s a revenue generator that’s it plain and simple. Cops are the new tax collector.
I remember back in 2002, one of my coworkers, a hardcore libertarian, got one of those notices (not a ticket but it was when our law was new then) at a checkpoint and complained (rightly so) on hoe we are becoming a police state.
I got one that will be hard to top..
I got one in the parking lot of a private establishment, my car was running, in it’s parking spot in park.
Judge didn’t care. just asked “where you in the car with out your seat belt on?” well ya... “pay the fine” But but but “you broke the law! pay the fine!”
then and there I knew it had NOTHING to do with safety of ANYONE. It had everything to do with collecting $ for the county/city/state.
Take the farking seatbelts and shove them where the sun don't shine!
You want to be safe in a car? GET RID OF THE FREAKING DIAGONAL BELTS! Replace them with an "H" harness and anti-submarine belt. And even though you are in a car WEAR A FREAKING HELMET!
It's not about SAFETY it's about CONTROL!
And that is why I love Nevada. Every year the Nannies try to pass a primary seat belt law and EVERY year it gets shot down.
Sure, they run the propaganda here, but they cant do unannounced checkpoints and they CANT pull you over for just your seatbelt :)
4th Amendment? We don't need no stinking 4th Amendment!
Seat belts kill. Any speed much over 45 or 50 mph and you hit something, you’re dead. Our bodies are 60-70% water. When you go from 50mph to zero in .007 seconds or less your body stops but your insides keep going. Much like dropping a glass of water. The glass stops when it hits the ground but the water sprays all over the place. That’s your insides. That’s what killed Princess Di. Her aorta popped loose from her heart from the sudden stop of the crash.
Yea!they were going at it in Connecticut this afternoon on a very busy street. No strobes on to warn drivers they were there.Putting themselves and the drivers of the vehicles in danger because they were walking in the roadway waving people over.
Fortunately for my wife and I we were already wearing our seatbelts. We do that as a routine. So we were not stopped.
I still hate what I think is harassment.Espechially when these same Police Officers should be out enforcing more important laws.
It would be useful to know WHAT STATE (or states) this is going down in. If you’re going to use the forum bandwidth, at least post USEFUL information. WHO-WHAT-WHERE-WHEN-WHY!
Press Release: "U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood Announces 'Click It or Ticket' Campaign"
Yet another (among many) of Boosh's RINO appointments who has gone over to the Dark Side after having imbibed too much Kool Aid.
Seatbelt laws are nannie state revenue generators, nothing else, anyone driving without a seatbelt endangers only themselves and no one else. It’s not like drunk driving laws where the drunk endangers the public at large and should be stopped. Seatbelt laws are a usurping of freedom of choice.
Where does the Constitution grant the right to make people wear seat belts? Answer: Nowhere. Depending on each State’s own Constitution it may be legal within their own boundaries.
All fines, penalties, permit fees, registration fees, and any means of taking money out of the hands of the people by force or law IS A TAX! They can name it what they want but the end result is extorted money forcefully taken away from a free citizen to feed the bowels of government on all levels.
Our law enforcement system is supposed to control CRIME! Nothing else...not to force you to be safe.
I saw a couple of those portable flashing message signs in my town yesterday with “Click It or Ticket” in lights . . . and at one of them a local news media mobile team doing a “live spot” in front of one of the signs complete with one of those florescent type vests on the news lady standing pretty close to 60 mph traffic. Way to go to create driver distraction. Not very safe.
New Hampshire has no seat belt requirement for adults 18 and over.
That doesn’t stop the NHTSA from advertising continuously on radio and tv that we need to buckle up or we will get a ticket, which we won’t because we don’t have that law.
Stupid, but intentional propaganda to get us ready for a law.
If the “Click it or Ticket” cops like rhymes so much, just tell them: “Ticket? Go STICK IT!” LOL.
It’s primary law in GA but we get an unconditional exemption for operating a vehicle in an agricultural capacity. So if a cop tries to give me a ticket I just say that I’m coming from or going to a farmer’s market; the fine is $15 dollars.
