WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – With the use of domestic drones increasing, concern has not just come up over privacy issues, but also over the potential use of lethal force by the unmanned aircraft.

Drones have been used overseas to target and kill high-level terror leaders and are also being used along the U.S.-Mexico border in the battle against illegal immigration. But now, these drones are starting to be used domestically at an increasing rate.

The Federal Aviation Administration has allowed several police departments to use drones across the U.S. They are controlled from a remote location and use infrared sensors and high-resolution cameras.

Chief Deputy Randy McDaniel of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in Texas told The Daily that his department is considering using rubber bullets and tear gas on its drone.

You just know they have Hellfire missiles mounted on some of them, and not the ones patrolling the southern border, if they even have any.

Some tech savvy folks will have fun taking over these drones. Flying these over US cities will be quite different from flying drones over 9th century hellholes.

Well that was fast wasn’t it? They announced the drones a few weeks ago and now they admit they will arm them.

Not that I didn’t think they would. Of course they will.

Based upon FAA regulations (25 lbs), the drones that are allowed to fly in and around civilian populations are too small to carry anything that is heavy.

If the Constitution won’t stop them, I doubt a piddling FAA reg will have any effect.

I'd like for the mandarins to argue thier case. I can see it now, not only should we arm Drones, but street corner cameras as well. That is not a large leap.

However, in less than twenty years, we will be debating if the commons can use robots for self defense. SWAT and other police forces will be conducting raids and searches with robotic personnel.

The future is only speeding up. You old people are lucky, you won't have to deal with this nonsense.

The police can’t legally shoot someone unless they have an immediate fear for their life or another’s. That’s going to be hard to justify when they are munching donuts in a remote trailer.

My fear as well and I think it’s something they look forward to using.

These drones are not all that special any more.

There are hobbyist groups that build and fly their own drones...modern, inexpensive compact cameras with 40x optical zoom and
1080p optically stabilized imaging can be bought at Walmart.
The rf relaying of the live images can be done with cheap off-the-shelf rf modules.

A guy fleeing pursuit doing 120mph would qualify as an immediate danger to others on the road. A few news videos of cars being riddled would reduce the number of dangerous chases considerably.
