The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

I agree with you. I’ve always felt Mormons as a whole had good moral character and were family oriented.
I alos think people who are concerned about Romney ‘preaching or pushing’ his religion need to look at if he has done so while in office. The answer is no - he has not. So, that’s one less thing everyone needs to be concerned with.
If you were auditioning for godhood -- like Temple Mormons are -- you'd be on your best outward behavior, too!
...and were family oriented.
Except that since Mormons believe they are married forever -- and can attach themselves to more than one spouse forever -- that would make them eternal polygamists upon death (if what they believe is so). How does eternal polygamy and "family oriented" square with you? If you are married, are you "OK" with your hubby living forever with one or two or more other "wives?"
For example, three current Lds "apostles" (Dallin Oaks, L. Tom Perry, and Russell M. Nelson) have all been sealed "for eternity" in the Mormon temple to two "wives" apiece...(they were widowers who remarried)...That means, they anticipate sleeping with both wives (literally on and off) in their "new life" beyond death...
Source -- From a previously posted article (found at What is "Celestial Polygamy"? [Mainstream Mormons say polygamy still occurring near Kolobian colony]:
According to an article in the April 20, 2008 edition of the Salt Lake Tribune: Though the LDS Church had disavowed polygamy, it is still enshrined in Mormon scripture (Doctrine & Covenants 132) and some believe it will one day be re-established, if not on Earth, at least in heaven. In his quasi-official 1966 book Mormon Doctrine, which remains in print, the late LDS Apostle Bruce R. McConkie wrote that the holy practice will commence again after the Second Coming and the ushering in of the millennium. And by policy, men can be sealed for eternity in LDS temple rites to more than one wife, though women are permitted only a single sealing. Three of the church's current apostles, for example, were widowed and remarried. Each will have two wives in the eternities (Modern-day Mormons disavow polygamy)...

You honestly are trying to compare the power of a Bay State Gov with THE leader of the Free World?
Besides, you don't know Mormonism very well, do you? The issue isn't Romney at all re: what he might or might not initiate on his own from the White House. The issue is that he's the potential puppet and whatever "prophet" is in SLC over the next 4-8 years is the potential puppeteer.
No puppet never has to assume the initiative. To comprehend this further, review the Lds leaders' quotes I'll include in a chart in the next post.
Romney, for his Mass. oath used a King James Bible that his father used for his Michigan swearing in.
As I said last post: The issue isn't Romney at all re: what he might or might not initiate on his own from the White House. The issue is that he's the potential puppet and whatever "prophet" is in SLC over the next 4-8 years is the potential puppeteer.
No puppet never has to assume the initiative. To comprehend this further, review the Lds leaders' quotes I'll include in a chart in the next post.

John Taylor | Lds 'Prophet' #3 | The Almighty has established this kingdom with order and laws and every thing pertaining thereto [so] that when the nations shall be convulsed, we may stand forth as saviours and finally redeem a ruined world, not only in a religious but in a political point of view. Orson Hyde | President of the Lds Quorum of the 12 Apostles for 28 years (1847-1875) | What the world calls Mormonism will rule every nation...God has decreed it, and his own right arm will accomplish it. This will make the heathen rage. (Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 53) | |
Heber J. Grant | Lds 'Prophet' #7 | "Elder Marion G. Romney recalled the counsel of President Heber J. Grant: 'My boy, you always keep your eye on the President of the Church, and if he ever tells you to do anything, and it is wrong, and you do it, the Lord will bless you for it.' Then with a twinkle in his eye, he said, 'But you don't need to worry. The Lord will never let his mouthpiece lead the people astray'" (in Conference Report, Oct. 1960, p. 78)." What about Marion G. Romney, cousin to Mitt's father? | Who was he in Lds hierarchy? (Title: 'President' - Top 3 of church as 2nd counselor to both #11 & #12 Lds 'prophets') | "Elder Neal A. Maxwell has said: 'Following the living prophets is something that must be done in all seasons and circumstances. We must be like President Marion G. Romney, who humbly said, '..I have never hesitated to follow the counsel of the Authorities of the Church even though it crossed my social, professional, and political life' (Conference Report, April 1941, p. 123). There are, or will be moments when prophetic declarations collide with our pride or our seeming personal interests...Do I believe in the living prophet even when he speaks on matters affecting me and my specialty directly? Mitt Romney as POTUS??? | Aside from above prophetic impositions, why would Mitt not only honor what these 'prophets' have spoken, but what a future Lds 'prophet' may tell him to do? | The Law of Consecration Oath Mitt Romney has sworn in the Mormon temple (done before marriage/sealing in temple): "You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the law of consecration as contained in this, the book of Doctrine and Covenants [he displays the book], in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and EVERYTHING with which the Lord has blessed you, or WITH which he MAY bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion." So?
What if an Lds "prophet" -- seeing the sheer PR value of inserting the Book of Mormon -- tells Romney to use the BoM?
Are you suggesting that Romney would disobey his own "prophet?"
What you don't understand is when it comes to THE supposed "leader" of the free world...If that man's a Mormon...guess what? He still is beholden to his "prophet" who wields authority over him!
Less than 15 minutes later, very next post: The general admonitions of Jesus were to not judge or throw stones... [Deb, 1:28:03]
...A few hours later: ...using the Bible to advance your political candidates is the most disgusting example of "evil" I can think of. (Deb, 3:46:05)
The above is what you call an afternoon sandwich ... albeit one where the outer portions in no way matches its internal content.
Care to tell us which Deb committee member submitted the internal "meat" of that sandwich? (And how she finally managed to get a word in edge-wise?)
I don’t worry about the lds people, but I worry about the nutcases who think they speak for God.
Where was the CNN insightful coverage of the increase in Islamic adherents in Washington, D. C., and how many of them were in positions of power under this president?
Where were in in-depth reports on how Islam is in a death-throws battle with Christianity, and that Obama was a ‘Christian’ who has never recanted his Islamic beliefs?
I’m not a big Mormon fan, but this is an out and out hatchet job on Romney by way of his religion, and this from a news organization that couldn’t have cared less if Obama was the son of Satan in 2008, and doesn’t care if he is now.
This thread is very disappointing. A lot of vile and bile and lack of respect for others.
FR used to be a lot better than this.
Better than Islamists who bow to Saudi Arabia 5 times a day, every day and never speak out against the human rights violations there or the death penalty for any lowly non-muslim who’d dare enter their segregated cities.
They will read no one comes unto the Father except through me in the Bible they say they follow, and in turn look down on a Christian who says that those outside the faith are condemned because its mean and "hateful"...
A prime example of this is the supposedly Conservative Christians here trying to condemn those who are confronting the very heretical Mormon cult that insult the very name of our savior instead of standing for Christ or at the very least standing aside if they do not have the stomach for it.
Things are still good for the truth here.
Aren't there Cafeteria Mormons just like Cafeteria Catholics? Could Dingy have rose to the level in the church that he's comfortable with, and now flaunts his occasionally anti-Mormon ideals in the Senate because he knows the homers in Salt Lake (and neighboring Nevada) won't dare oppose his power.
Mormons no longer practice polygamy. I think it is you who do not know Mormons very well.
Furthermore, if Obama won...and having won the second term, he could begin to "remove his mask," what if Obama elected to swear on the Quran?"
Irony upon irony upon irony...so you preferred to see that farcical kabuki Bobo pulled with the Bible in '08, rather than him being honest and place his hand upon the Koran? Ye shall know them...
That’s ridiculous. As a Christian, the New Testiment says to spread the gospel, to pray without ceasing, I can name many others if you’d like. Does that mean I share the gospel to everyone I encounter, No. Does that mean I do nothing, but pray...no. You are taking things to the extreme.
JFK was President for nearly 3 years...any influence is out there in the open for the record.
Neither did St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher ... but there were plenty of proto-Protestants who couldn't wait to take the Oath of Supremacy ...
