Stoll: Right To Leave U.S. Could Be Trumped by 30% Tax

Call it the return of the Reichsfluchtsteuer.

....

“I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s and Rhodesia in the ‘70s and in South Africa as well,” Norquist said. “He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.”

The Reichsfluchsteuer, or Reich flight tax, that German government imposed on Jews trying to flee in the 1930s was 25 percent; Schumer and his Senate colleague Bob Casey, Democrat of Pennsylvania, want 30 percent. Give Schumer some credit for creativity.

According to Norquist, the New Yorker did not just plagiarize and translate. He also raised the rate. ....

When you were a young man you probably weren’t living in a fledgling socialist state with an out of control government bleeding everything that moves dry either. The facebook guy who sparked this controversy by renouncing his citizenship simply “went Galt” ... on steroids.

...nothing but contempt for those that renounce their citizenship

Lots of my clients, Jews, are alive because their parents and grandparents saw the writing on the wall in Europe in the 1930s and came to America.

Second....when the government begins systematically violating your rights, you no longer have an obligation to it.

Ask yourself this: If you were George Zimmerman, would you want to live in a country that tolerates a death bounty on you? Sends the entire .gov apparatus after you because of a flawed, racially-motivated, social/political ideology? I wouldn't.......

There are certain triggers that would cause me and my family to leave the United States, but we are not there yet....but Senator Schumer is bringing us one step closer to the balloon going up.

Being a prudent citizen, and a father/husband, I will do anything to protect my family from harm, even leaving my homeland. I would rather fight for it first, with blood if necessary, but ALWAYS have the capabililty to flee a danger zone....with a passport and a "inch bag" (I'm never coming home) bag in case it gets REAL BAD.

Trust me....and just look at history, you DO NOT EVER, EVER want to become a asset-less, non-protected refugee, that is being hunted or persecuted by a government entity, ever.

If we swallow diamonds, they won't find them at the transit camps. We'll be okay.

Envy is THE reason that the Jews gave up Christ for crucifixion.

One might consider that position as a mamufactured slur against Jews.

The country needs folks who will fight for it, just as we did back in the day, we are at war and at this point I have little confidence we will ultimately win.

If folks are too chicken sh*t to stay fight for the country as US citizens but will renounce their citizenship and will turn tail and run I have no use for them.

The enemies of America are on the left and on on the right its a sad fact that Americans should never forget.

Apparently you know nothing about slavery.

I have nothing against being a prudent citizen and having other options including living in another country. I actually think having Americans scattered throughout the world is a good idea should the time come on a global scale folks need to pick up the pieces and start over. I'd like traditional American values to be the starting point.

But folks who would renounce their American citizenship are nothing more than illegal aliens at that point and deserve none of the protections they formally had as American citizens.

I noted that one of the first things fascist states do when consolidating power is pass laws to prevent the expatriation of wealth.

You seem to be the only one that gets it.

This is nothing about Facebook. It's all about its being a necessary first step to where the Administration wants to go next: confiscation of all private savings into Social Security in exchange for what amounts to an IOU.

It's about taking the IRA's, guys.

They are a bunch of fascists.

I say again, they've got something up their sleeve. Argentina confiscated private savings accounts in 2008; these guys have got to be looking at that, and Boehner's making all the wrong noises!

We need a new speaker pronto.

However, dodging the draft meant some other guy had to take your place in line. Eventually we have to round up the draft dodgers and give them another place in line ~ then........

That's an old gimmick that is the cornerstone of totalitarianism; it was already old when Diocletian borrowed the idea from the temple priests of Egypt in 305AD, and made it the new governing idea of the Empire.

It turned the Western Empire, where people still had the impulse for freedom, into a cashless desert, where every coin went into the ground, either into land or into hidden caches. The East became an empire of slaves, and Diocletian's government prepared them for the Turks.

The trick is, the ruler strikes a pose: "I am going to get my impost/labor-levy/crop-share no matter what happens. The only question is, am I going to get it from these guys, or am I going to get it from you, you, and you?"

Knowing who everyone is, and where they live, and how much they have -- in other words, total awareness of the ruled -- is the enabling knowledge, and force the enabling motivator. Turning the victims against one another with the cross-assignment of responsibility guarantees that the whole scheme will work.

From your first link:

>>On April 7, 2011, Peter Dunn raised his right hand before a U.S. consular officer in Toronto and swore that he understood the consequences of giving up his U.S. citizenship. Dunn, a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen who has lived outside the United States since 1986, says he renounced because he felt American citizenship had become more of a liability than a privilege.<<

IIRC, it was Edward Gibbon who noted that for centuries, republican Roman citizenship was jewel of incomprehensible value. Fast forward to the late empire, and it was burden best cast off. When the whole rotting thing came crashing down, few loved it enough to cry.
