(CNN) -- Vermont's governor has signed a bill making it the first U.S. state to ban fracking, the controversial practice to extract natural gas from the ground.

"This is a big deal," Gov. Peter Shumlin said Wednesday. "This bill will ensure that we do not inject chemicals into groundwater in a desperate pursuit for energy."

I wonder why they didn't ban the importation of natural gas produced by fracking? I guess they're stupid, but not *that* stupid.

More energy policy stupidity from our Left.

"This bill will ensure that we do not inject chemicals into groundwater in a desperate pursuit for energy."

And of course the Gov. makes his point with a typical liberal lie. Groundwater is not affected by fracking.

Politicians only recognize science when it suits them.

Like injecting Ritalin into schoolkids.

Vermont isn’t a very big state. With horizontal drilling, an oil company can put a rig just over the state line and still drill Vermont’s resources...without Vermont getting a penny of revenue.

Assuming Vermont has anything worth fracking to begin with.

LOL banning something that won't be done there because they have no natural gas.

Energy companies should boycott the non-contributing state.

All forms of natural gas and natural gas generated electricity should be cut off from Vermont.

Eff'em. It is time to play hardball with these anti-humanists.

There is no oil in Vermont. Or gas. IIRC the state rests on solid granite.

Radon they got, but no oil or gas.

Just another cheap thrill from a liberal.

And in related news, Kansas bans swimming after dark on all of its ocean beaches and Florida will ban wild polar bear hunting within the state.

>>>All forms of natural gas and natural gas generated electricity should be cut off from Vermont.<<<

Great idea.

And every and all tax revenue generated nationally by oil & gas energy companies should be proportionally withheld from Vermont and other fossil-fuel hating states.

Fracking product producers should refuse to sell their products to anyone in the state.
