Mitt Romney made a hastily arranged trip to Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, and not just because that city is the site of the Democratic National Convention.
It's because North Carolina looks to be leaning red.
President Obama won the state four years ago but his decision to publicly endorse same-sex marriage this week could cost him the Tar Heel state, especially as his announcement came the day after the state rejected an amendment legalizing gay marriage.
The Republican National Committee circulated a memo on the state, arguing that the retirement of high-profile Democratic lawmakers in the North Carolina, a sexual harassment scandal dogging the state Democratic Party leadership and the campaign finance corruption trial of former presidential candidate John Edwards means that "the Tar Heel State is a major headache for Chicago."

It would be ironic if Obama were to lose North Carolina by a larger-than-national average after holding his convention there.
Obama is not going to win one southern state. Bank on it. North Carolina, Virginia and Florida are all going Romney.
Alleged??? The Plan DID NOT include coal until after the ad. Hill, your bias is showing.
All of the traditional GOP States are going to return to the fold.
As far as I am concerned, when it comes to colors, red equates with tyranny and always will.
Blue is for patriots and cannot be associated with the rat party.
I pray to God that Obama’s celebration of sodomy this week costs him many, many states—I hope it energizes the conservatives, blacks, undecideds, and a lot of Democrats to SEE Obama in a new light.
I pray they see him as a dangerous person who wants our culture to be perverted and our economy to be decimated—for that is an accurate assessment of the Occupier of the Oval Office.
Obama’s decision is backfiring. Obama is falling in the polls. Romney is polling 50% in Rasmussen Reports for the first time since they started polling him against Obama.
If the DNC cancels its convention in NC, the GOP should run a satellite convention there to take its place.
. I would say he has a good shot at getting shut out in the Rocky Mountain states as well. His hopes of Colorado, New Mexico, or Nevada are probably extremely remote. Obama is going to be New England, the West Coast, and Illinois. There wont be any map-expanding this time, IMO.
The state did not reject an amendment legalizing gay marriage. Factual clarity please people.
The amendment defined marriage in the state constitution, so that judges could not rule that such a law was unconstitutional.
If the amendment had failed, gay marriage would not have been legalized. The status quo, of marriage defined in regular statute law, would have still been in effect.
It’s an important distinction you made. It’s time to start using the language as it is. This is NOT an argument against gay marriage. It needs to be an argument FOR traditional marriage and OPPOSED to anything else.
When you start talking about “gay marriage,” you’ve already lost the war of language—you’ve couched your argument in your opponents’ terms.
Make it a monolithic support of marriage as is and as it has always been. Throw them on the outside demanding massive change to a system that has served all of humanity across the globe through all of history well. Make them the outsiders and don’t start out on the defensive.
How ironic that the RATS, fav buddies of the unions and their associated thugs, would have their national convention in a right to work state.
Californication.
Sorry to say this but the young have been indoctrinated to not care about someone being gay. When they start to vote...
It seems that The Hill cannot report the truth. The article says, “...the day after the state REJECTED an amendment legalizing gay marriage.” North Carolina voters PASSED an amendment defining “... marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman.”
Yes, that's what they're what commemorating...all their guys like Che Guevara are labeled "martys" when they die for the cause...
>> to cast off tyranny and to maintain liberty over the years. <<
WRONG. "Red" is the color for people who worked for the opposite goal.... to cast off liberty and install tyranny for years:
