Well, seems to me bue and train passengers have either been searched all ready, or will be. he fact that they sexually assault Americans at airports didn’t seem to be enough for anyone to put a stop to it, so they keep creeping further and further. Stadiums, malls etc have also been called for by the Feds.

“But it makes us feel safer...”

How I detest that hogwash people use as an excuse and the people went along with it.

Personally, my blood pressure goes up when I have to stop at a fruit inspection checkpoint on the California border, wouldn’t want to be trying to sneak in illegal kumquats.

“O please..they have been checking trucks for many years at truck stops. “

The TSA? You are dead wrong.

This is a first. And if you think this isn’t a huge leap in advancing the Police State, you are a moron.

“Hate to be the one to tell you this, but the probable cause in that you are driving on their highway.”

I trust this is sarcasm.

Amendment IV:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

I guess Big Sis gets to sidestep this now?

Whatever...I think there is a good chance of a nuke going off from a truck being used, so I do not see this as a problem.
However, still allowing muslim’s to enter the country and the continuing infiltration at the southern border makes these efforts almost null and void.

Ron Paul was one of only three Republicans to vote against the act. Dr. Paul consistently works to dismantle it.

Has anyone else seen this type of activity where you live and under what law can they randomly stop a car and have a dog walk around it and sniff for drugs?

Similar to a DWI checkpoint - I encountered a drug specific roadblock driving through a small town in western New York state. This was a dozen years ago or so - the dissolution of liberty vis-a-vis the 4th ammendment has been going on for decades.

The roadblocks are not random though. Since they stop everyone and give everyone the same hairy eyeball, it's ok right? Equality under the of the law? That's the thinking of politicians and law enforcement.

Yep it’s expanding beyond the Feds. The NFL has started using security checks to include pat downs etc I believe.

Taking their picture/recording them is probably a felony, like it (unbelievably enough) is still the case in many jurisdictions. 8-((

I have the entire series on my Kindle.

Can a Nook load the same e-books as a Kindle?

If so, Amazon might work.

“Taking their picture/recording them is probably a felony”

Not in your garage!

Yes your story sounds very much like someone was up to something.
Sounds like a govt entity trying to get you to do something.

>No grounds....just the way it is.

So then, what you’re saying is: “Due process is dead”.

>They have to confer up the chain of command to determine if there might be probable cause, even consult a judge.

Might be? Either there is, or there isn’t; and in the case of asserting one’s right to be free from [unreasonable] searches, it is utterly unreasonable that the assertion of such right should be the “probable cause.” (Furthermore, the 4th amendment requires that WARRANTS be supported by probable cause, not that there should be any sort of search committed w/o a warrant.)

>Follow up question is “am I being detained?”

No, the follow-up is a statement: “If you aren’t arresting me, I’m leaving.”

>Follow up question (if yes) is “how about my Miranda warning?”

At that point, the follow-up is ALSO a statement: “You are in violation of US Code Title 18, Section 242; it is a felony, and I demand to speak to your supervisor.” ( http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/242 )

>Inconvenience can—and should—flow both ways.

It’s not inconvenience, it’s illegal.

>Ya done good.
>Creep was either a lunatic or some flavor of Nazi .. bet on it.

Or a government agent, which amounts to “both” in some cases.
(The Ruuby Ridge incident came about because Randy Weaver wouldn’t give-in and become an infiltrator/mole for some gov. agency... why do I get the feeling that the incident you described was someone in a similar situation who made the “go along to get along” choice?)

It’s past time, and don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If nothing else, if all goes well and our nation is healed, at the very least you will have years worth of entertainment taken care of.

>I seem to recall a case regarding refusal to cooperating with a search or telling them to go get a warrant, then escalates to probable cause. It was just a few months ago we were discussing it right here on FR.

I seem to remember something similar; too bad I suck at searching. ;(
(But there is something wrong when demanding that due-process is followed *IS* the ‘probable cause’ for arresting you.)

>The ONLY thing that get’s their attention is money! PERIOD!

Oh, no, I’m sure other things would get their attention too:
— A mob, ready to hang them
— People shooting at them
— The return of Jesus Christ (maybe)

But other than that, they’re too busy playing their game.
