WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says a new Pentagon report concludes that last year's repeal of the ban on gays serving openly in the military has not affected military morale or readiness.

Panetta is telling reporters that his view is that "the military has kind of moved beyond it." He said the presence of gays in the military has become accepted.

For what it’s worth haven’t seen anything here so far. But then again to my knowledge no open homosexuals have come out in the unit.

Because soldiers have been ordered to not allow the end of DADT to impact moral or readiness. /s

A Democrat/Progressive suck-ass voicing his approval is not un-expected, and he’s a rump-ranger himself, so he has reason to promote it....

I suppose there won’t be the kind of trouble with gays that there was in the 80s when I was in the Navy, since kids have “evolved” or whatever.

When I was on my ship, we had a few incidents with gay sailors. We didn’t beat on them, although it could have come to that. When someone got “outted” it was very very unpleasant for EVERYONE in his berthing area. We weren’t homophobic, since we weren’t scrared of gays, but damn, who wants to live that close to a gay dude if you’re not gay?

Back then, the Navy did an ourstanding job of getting gays off the ship, normally within a week of the problems starting. If they left them on the ship, I think we would have found a way to deal with it, and not in a PC way.

The military, in particular the Army, must sure have a different mindset than when I served in WWII. We knew about sexual differences but we never had to be concerned.

You put a sarcasm tag on that, but you're more right than you realize. The officers will present the party line, and the enlisted know better than to gripe in front of the officers. Hence the illusion that "everyone's fine with this."

Well, the boys would have a problem with the 2 guys kissing..but no so much with the two hot lesbo's. That's just the way it is for most of the hetero male population.

Why? Do you want it to mess up our military?

I am against homos in the military, period.

It is too early to see the damage allowing them in will cause. It will be bad.

I disagree. I work with junior and senior enlisted USN personnel daily and I give them more credit. It really is a non-issue.
