WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mitt Romney on Thursday countered the notion that he bullied high school classmates and insisted he didn't know some were gay.
The Republican presidential candidate apologized to anyone he may have offended by what he said were "hijinks and pranks during high school." His comments in a hastily arranged radio interview followed a Washington Post report Thursday that he had held down classmate John Lauber and cut off his bleached blond hair when they were classmates at a prestigious boarding school in the wealthy Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Me too... it shows that, despite how he governed in Mass-of-chuette-sex, there is a conservative deep in there that was popular in school and isn’t keen on adopting freak culture. I still don’t know iff I am voting for him, but this story scores a point for Romney. There is a glimmer of hope that he might be conservative and faking as a liberal to win in Mass instead of a liberal faking as a conservative to win the GOP nomination. WHat we know is that he will say anything to win. What we don’t know is what he really believes. This story is a good sign. Good to know he was able to fit in in high school without having to choose an alternative lifestyle like Barry.
Next thing you know he’ll be apologizing for playing doctor when he was 6 years old.
I'm not a Romney enthusiast, but this story is so typical of lefty MSM pro-'Rat sleaze. My guess is that the WaPo searched out all of Romney's former high school classmates they could find and offered them money for any derogatory story about him they could tell. A few Democrats among them naturally took the WaPo offer.
Our version of smear the queer wasn’t dodge ball. It was one guy with the football getting chaed down and getting the crap beaten out of him by everyone else... then whoever recovered the fumble was the next one to get crushed... goal was to hold on to the football as long as you can.
Good times...yep....good times.
Please, massa. Don’t make me defend marse Mitchel from no stupid s@#$! I’ll do anything. I’ll even clean the outhouse again. But please don’t make me defend him from no stupid s@#$!
A lot of people had their hair cut off in the 60s and it didn’t have anything to do with them being a fag. Maggot-infested hippies had a hell of time in Arizona during the 60s until the finally outnumbered the cowboys here and we just couldn’t keep up. This is just more whiney, commie lib bull****.
There are several issues brought up here. Don’t get them mixed up.
1. THE NUMBER ONE ISSUE HERE: the press does Obama’s bidding and they will vet Mitt Romney’s dirty diapers at 12 months old without even WONDERING in an editorial if Obama was ever a citizen at all until he was handed a diplomatic passport, or if the MYRIAD of gay stories about him MIGHT be true, or how he got into Harvard Law, and who paid.
2. The homosexual issue, which is more about money than anything else. It wasn’t about gay votes. Obama never had a black bone in his body, said his old girlfriend, who would have had cause to examine his bones. He has chosen rich white gays over poor blacks now. Like a poster here said yesterday, Obama is now saying to blacks, “I know you don’t approve of sodomy but deal with it — what’re you gonna do, vote for the white guy?” Obama wants the white gay-and-Hollywood moolah, period.
3. And this is not unimportant: Romney could not even deny the accusation that he assaulted this boy in high school. Because he knows he did it. He covers with “I don’t recall” but a decent person doesn’t need to recall — he KNOWS he never instigated such an attack. He covers himself with “faulty memory” in case he gets Breitbarted - a photo, more memories, a written up report from the school, whatever, suddenly shows up to prove him a liar.
Romney has several stories in his past where he is bold and cruel. This story does make me think less of him. I hate that FReepers cover for him or say everyone does it. NO, NOT EVERY BOY ABUSES THE WEAKER KIDS. He never apologized to him even once he became a leader in his church. That speaks volumes. I hurt a boy once when I was 17 and I have felt bad about it ever since and I found him, a grown man, and apologized. He said that my apology really mattered to him and made a difference.
Romney does not appear to even be TRYING to be a decent person. Look how he treats those weaker than himself. THe dog, this weaker kid. Look at the lows he stooped to in his primary campaigns. I will NOT vote for him in June for sure.
The timing of this is very suspicious. The WaPo probably got the story lead straight from Carney or Media Matters. I doubt these lazy journo bums would do any actual work on their own to dig this up.
As I said on another thread, if these two yahoos are the best this country can come up with, we’re finished.
The local law enforcement people were very worried one night when a gang of motorcycle hippies from Denver threatened to ride up one summer night and teach the whole town a lesson.
The local cowboys and Indians were waiting for them and a fight ensured. No injuries beyond a few scratches and bruises, but the final outcome was one broken storefront window and a motorcycle gang of newly minted short-haired hippies limping out of town southbound on highway #789 to the raucous singing of a combined cowboy and Indian chorus.
Shearing hippies was evidently a fairly popular pass time in that era, especially in Rocky Mountain ranching towns.
“Well, is John Lauber Gay, or not?”
I’d ask him, but he’s deceased.
I heard Romney also did not color inside the lines when he was in Kindergarden.
I was wondering whether it was more or less "prestigious" than Sidwell Friends of even the Punahou School.
ML/NJ
Of course, maybe he was just a dick to everybody.
I bet he was the kind of kid who sexually harassed little girls too...you know the type?
They would pass a note that said, “do you like me? circle yes or no”
The whole Romney bullying story sounds. Gays weren’t ‘out’ when Romney was in school, especially in high schools.
I did not personally participate either, but it sound like you also know quite a few people which did. Is that correct?
People who didn't live through that era have to understand that America was at war in the mid 1960's and still (mostly) united against the hippie trash who burned our flags, denounced our troops and exhibited over the top anti-social behavior which is now considered normal.
I was just a young lad then, but this type of prank was supported by most of us until at least the mid-1970's in the more conservative backbone areas of the country. Interracial friendships between cowboys and Indians wasn't all that unusual either. I counted quite a few friends on both sides of the aisle and still do.
A lot of our fathers (including mine) came home from World War II with a new found respect for their fellow Americans, regardless of color. I really think that is what moved not only fostered movements like Dr. Martin Luther King, but encouraged a lot of personal friendships between Indians and whites where we were in close proximity in Rocky Mountain and Great Plains states.
LOL!
