Its no secret that one of the largest blocs of people pressing for so-called gun control is the culturally (aka not-so-religious) American Jewish community. This confounds many observers who would expect that Jews, with such a stunning history of oppression and murder by humanitys villains, would cling tenaciously to personal firearms and the ability to protect themselves as the Hebrew Scriptures instruct.
In reaction to the Holocaust, American Jews adopted the phrase Never Again! If actions mean anything, they dont believe it. Thats for someone else to do. How do Jews expect to put teeth behind the words Never Again! if not with the ability to apply and project personal force when righteous -- and necessary -- for survival?
Why then do so many American Jews hate guns and fear gun ownership so much?
Our research identifies ten reasons why these Jews feel the way they do about self defense in general, firearms specifically and your own right to keep and bear arms.

>> As a Christian myself....can there even BE such a thing [as a Christian liberal]?
Are you kidding? I have been to services (weddings, baptisms and such) at little rural Catholic churches in the middle of nowhere. The homily that the priest delivered would make Bill Ayers proud. Full of venom aimed at evil corporations, climate change deniers, the “rich”, “bigots” who can’t stomach homos, @etc. You’d think the good father’s next appointment was to Occupy The Little Courthouse In The Sleepy Town Square!
But the truth is...it made a little bit of sense then, for Jews to be liberal. The arts, helping the poor, charity. Being the underdog and making common cause with other underdogs. Now that worldwide anti-Semitism is apparently staging an alarming comeback, amazingly, only a snippet more diffuse than before WW2 yet arguably far more dangerous now with the arming and sophistication of pan-Arabism, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, now, for Jews to be libs. Yet overwhelmingly, they are.
Jews never castigated FDR for refusing to bomb rail lines leading to the concentration camps. Instead, Jews identified with the more collectivist movement that the early union movement embodied. Jews embraced America, and despite their difficult times in early 20th century US, came to embrace the utopian part of the American dream. I am of course oversimplifying. I grew up in NJ, not far from where you grew up. Voting Republican, those rich white guys, was unthinkable.
My parents were hardcore Dems until they died. It was genetically engrained in them. Despite their relatively high level of education, they didn’t know that the Dem party was the party of the KKK. They didn’t know Lincoln (a great man by any measure) was a Republican. These facts did not register. To them, all Republicans were Barry Goldwater types who wouldn’t let them into their country clubs. Not that they played golf or even were members of any other country club. It was just a well developed habit pattern borne of utter ignorance of historical fact. It was all based on this weird mishmosh of “lore”. Tribal lore, is all I can call it. That evangelical Christians might try to convert people was a worse thing than Arabs trying to slaughter people, to slit their throats. Amazing. Someone talking to you, sure, with an agenda, maybe an agenda you reject yet can walk away from or ignore, that’s more threatening than someone with a gun up your nose ready to blow your brains out.
(American) Jews act out of a complete reverence for utopianism. The world should be perfect. The underdog should be given a chance. If the underdog robs me and beats me, it’s only because he’s still an underdog after all this time and we just have to keep trying to help them. I just haven’t done enough.
The Jews have forgotten that they themselves are the most at risk underdogs.
Ugh.
:(
What kind of range do you speculate, 20 to 40%, 50%?

The only place under Nazi rule the jews had a chance was Warsaw where Jews did not surrender their Guns to the Nazi's.
If just the NY diasporan Jews in FL would wake up to that level, the whole election could turn there. I just spent a few days in Orlando and other points north of there and was amazed how the real estate market is still so far down there with multiple strip malls/shops empty. Guess they got the hopey/changey they voted for...
I pray so! I long to see depressed anchor-liberals on Election Night.
Hildy, I pray you are correct.
The Jewish State of Israel was founded by socialists, has oppressive government, high taxes, free healthcare, runs communes even.
Jews seem to enjoy conflict, possibly seeking it out for entertainment purposes. Jews like being lawyers and the constant battle between sides that entails. They enjoy living in the Middle East surrounded by enemies. It's high drama and they usually win the game. But being in the ring, they like guns not being involved. They want it to be a battle of wits, words, and rules, not armed opponents which are too random and unpredictable, in other words not fun to deal with.
Similar to the reason Black women want to be fat. Skinny and fit reminds them of when they were slaves. ;>)
And they understand the what it means to say “Never Again”.
And they understand what it means to say “Never Again”.
So many early Jewish immigrants identified rich (and not so rich) Republicans as their oppressors. I would think that image has never changed, even as many Jews moved into the ranks of the well-off.
