I would draft Gov. Scott Walker of WI, one of (if not the) best Governors in the nation. He would instantly unite the party and electrify the grassroots.

“If he thinks this’ll get him the VP nod, he’s delusional.”

It’s not about that. This is just traditional politics at work. It’s this way every primary.

I’m not sure why anyone is surprised...after all Newt endorsed Romney as well and there was much worse blood between those two.

At any rate, every rational person understands the simple truth that 0 must be defeated in November. Romney is not the ideal candidate, but she chose not to run this cycle. ;-)

Santorum endorsed Romney in 2008 in the primary when Romney was running against Huckabee, Thompson and other conservatives.

How can anybody be surprised that Rick would make the same endorsement four years later in the General election when the opponent is Obama?

"Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans,
has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced
,
instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who
have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found.
Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats
or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians
or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show.
In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters,
and 14 registered Democrats."

Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys.
He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>

"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!

Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.

...and you bring up a good point. Why was Romney an acceptable alternative to McCain in 2008, but not an acceptable alternative to 0bama in 2012?

I would rather have a strong congress to oppose Obama for the next four years and then kick the crap outta whomever comes up from the DNC sewers to run in four years with a strong Conservative.

It’s the only move left for him to make.

He met with Romney, probably established some conditions for an open endorsement, and the negotiated that and came to terms...whatever they are they will probbaly helop. Thios si the type of thing each of them need to do to ensure that Romney sticks to his commitments.

I think Romney should announce soon who his VP will be (Rubio perhaps) and then, before the conmventiopn, also indicate who he is considering for his cabinet. Like Santorum as AG, Bachman as Health, Education and Welfare, Bolton as Secretary of State, etc.

Willard would have nominated none of those three. He'll pick a pro-homo, pro-abortion, pro-big-gubmint, non-Constitutionalist transgendered "person".

Why was Romney an acceptable alternative to McCain in 2008, but not an acceptable alternative to 0bama in 2012? That, my friend, the the question that does not make sense in this election, and a main reason Obama may be re elected.

I just don't get it.

I am assuming that Alito will be on the bench for a while. Both Thomas and Scalia are aging, and there were reports earlier that Roberts had some health issues.

We got a very thoughtful, lengthy e-mail from Rick explaining his meeting with Romney and his reasoning.

I knew this was coming. Obama MUST go.

It's a good read, and I agree with all the points Rick makes. Here re a few of the telling paragraphs from the letter:

The family and its foundational role in America's economic success, a central point of our campaign, was discussed at length. I was impressed with the Governor's deep understanding of this connection and his commitment to economic policies that preserve and strengthen families. He clearly understands that having pro-family initiatives are not only the morally and economically right thing to do, but that the family is the basic building block of our society and must be preserved.

The primary campaign certainly made it clear that Governor Romney and I have some differences. But there are many significant areas in which we agree: the need for lower taxes, smaller government, and a reduction in out-of-control spending. We certainly agree that abortion is wrong and marriage should be between one man and one woman. I am also comfortable with Governor Romney on foreign policy matters, and we share the belief that we can never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons. And while I had concerns about Governor Romney making a case as a candidate about fighting against Obamacare, I have no doubt if elected he will work with a Republican Congress to repeal it and replace it with a bottom up, patient, not government, driven system.

Above all else, we both agree that President Obama must be defeated. The task will not be easy. It will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious. Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime.

My conversation with Governor Romney was very productive, but I intend to keep lines of communication open with him and his campaign. I hope to ensure that the values that made America that shining city on the hill are illuminated brightly by our party and our candidates thus ensuring not just a victory, but a mandate for conservative governance.
Though I am sad a Sarah Palin, a Cain, a Santorum, or Newt did not take the primaries and win the nomination, I agree 100% with this letter from Rick and will move forward accordingly.

WHY I WILL SUPPORT ROMNEY IF HE WINS THE GOP NOMINATION
