Socialist Francois Hollande has been elected as France's new president, early estimates say.
He got about 52% of votes in Sunday's run-off, according to projections based on partial results, against 48% for centre-right incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy.
Mr Hollande would be the first French socialist president since 1995.

Sooo, will Hollande and Obama become best buds? Sounds like they have a great foundation.
Those that think that the American Public is smart enough to see what Obama has done and will continue to do this Country once he is Reelected had better take a Reality Test.
Until the Votes are counted on Election Day 2012, I will not be fooled into believing that Obama can be defeated.
I can only Hope that he will will lose in a Landslide but then I think of a saying an Old Navy Chief used to always use.
“Hope (wish) in one hand and spit in the other and see which one fills up first”.
This is not good. Europe is collapsing because the socialist governments are spending more than they collect in taxes. They borrow the difference. Adding a growth driven France to the European deficit will only accelerate the collapse. Be prepared. Next year is going to be a nightmare...
Nah, it would be more like an election between Obama and Bernie Sanders, with Obama in the Sarkozy role as the "more conservative" candidate.
I hate France, so it's nice to have a French president where the feeling is mutual. It was silly to see conservatives excuse France's 70+ year record of betraying America because their latest President vacationed here and tried to woo us into voting for Obama (and then complained Obama wasn't liberal enough after his "pal" was elected). Sarko may have "loved America" but he sure hated Israel. Buh bye Sarko.
“But if the French are stupid enough to elect a guy like that they deserve what happens next.”
You could easily substitute Americans for French in that sentence, we have and are getting what we deserve for electing a dog eating communist and we’re about to do it again.
Hmmmm....we may be seeing Germans marching through Paris again in about a year. (Just kidding....)
Perhaps Germany leaving the Euro zone completely.
What does France have to offer the world anyhow? They used to be known for their wine and cuisine but now California, Australia, and even Argentina are making better and more affordable wines and as such, French wines take up less and less shelf space in our wine stores. French restaurants have pretty much disappeared from the American landscape as our palates have moved on to more exotic cuisine (i.e. Oriental, Mexican) or just plain old Texas-style steakhouses and barbecue.
California even has banned foie gras!!!
I’m glad that the hard, radical out of control right wing government (that the French are known for) is finally being replaced with a sensible, moderate, soft spoken liberal government.
Most people don’t realize this, but France is a more conservative place than our own California. :) But at least the French people are starting to wake up.
/sarc(???????)
It’s unfortunate, but it was expected. In any event, the Socialist only won a narrow victory against an unpopular incumbent, showing that Socialism isn’t making a real comback in France.
Well, it looks like it’s up to us to be the last bastion of Western Civilization. Even more reason to work full bore to educate the public about Obama and hopefully send him packing in January.
A French Barack Obama.
Hang on tight; get lots of popcorn. The explosion of France should not take too long.
The first French ‘socialist’ president since 1995.
Looks like the trend now....a helpful thing when leaders are awash in setting up the new world order...he’ll gladly participate.
Not good for France though.....I noted young folks there all giddy about their future government payouts.
well yeah...this is about the big boys attempting to position a one world economic system without the whole thing crashing while they do it....there will be collateral damage...some nations will be propped up...like Greece....They are all "cooking the books" ....
Meanwhile nation leaders and their party peoples are all jocking for the best positions they can get, pending the "seats" of the new world order.....nations with the greater flow of revenues will make a difference...thus banks and monetary systems are moving revenues to where ever it will look most favorable for them and their nation...and why we see 3rd world nations merging as one block for the power they can weld as a group.
We have seen Hillary and Billy Boy traveling the world for 'years' since He left office....what do people actually think they've been doing? They aren't making welcome wagon calls.
The push is on and we all better hold on for the ride...it's going to get rough IMO.
I read somewhere today they expect the people will be in the streets in 6 months.
Interestingly, the 18-24 year old vote went largely to Sarko.
That’s why Obama is trying hard to raise the youngsters here to rally for him...heck even Michelle is going after the younger kids to tell their parents and grandparents to vote for her husband...now that’s pretty low!
Didn’t something like that happen in Europe in the thirties? ... some guy in a moustache, I think, tried to get children to turn against their parents and grandparents.
There are two major forces, each vying for control. One one hand there is "One World Government" being pushed by the UN, EU, and the Marxists/Socialists in the current Administration. On the other extreme is Sharia Law with "One World" government ruled by Islamo-facists.
In the middle is the prize, hard working Americans, successful entrepreneurs, the "millionaire" who owns and manages a small chain of local drug stores, the "millionaire" who built up a local lumber yard, the owner/manager of a couple of local gas stations and repair garages, etc. These are the "millionaires" with big targets on their backs, because they are not paying their "fair share." This is going to be a rough ride indeed.
Will America wake up in time? Will we be buying prayer rugs or, will we be petitioning an oppressive socialist government for a slightly larger allowance?
