What do these "odds" mean? I'm used to seeing the odds in terms of "10-to-3" or "8-to-1" to win
Thanks for the post/links. Looking at the Daily Racing Form, I can see that there are lots of very capable horses in the Derby this year. It should be a very exciting race with very good gimmick pays. The permutations are mind boggling.
They are “to one”, unless otherwise indicated. Never have I seen odds given “to three” (ie, 10-3). At least not here in New York.
Odds, in order of increasing payout amounts, are as follows:
3-1 = $8.00 (for a $2 win wager)
7-2 = $9.00 (for a $2 win wager)
4-1 = $10.00 (for a $2 win wager)
9-2 = $11.00 (for a $2 win wager)
5-1 = $12.00 (for a $2 win wager)
6-1 = etc, etc
7-1
8-1
etc, etc
I have a ‘hunch’ (not a tip) that Daddy Nose Best may mow them down in the stretch and pay close to $30. But I don’t have the guts to play him to Win. I’ll go with Show and hope it returns 7 or 8 dollars (for Show).
If anyone knows who does the horse racing ping list, could you please ping him/her to this thread. Tanx.

WOW....that's a heavy title.
don't chicken out, bet him across (W-P-S). if he only shows you still get a couple of bucks. but if he wins you'll get enough to send me half.
In that field (lots of horses can win and no clear cut favorites), "Daddy" (with current odds) should pay at least that to show. Seems like a good bet. $100 or $200 to show would be a nice payday ($350 - $800) at a $7 or $8 show price (I see it easily going to double digits for the show payoff on "Daddy").
Wheeling him front and back in the exactor (perfecta) for $1 (total bet $38...based on 20 horse field) could net you $100 (or 2 or 3) with the right combination.
His derby analysis and picks can be found at his website .
Apparently, last year his top picks went 1-2-4.
Very interesting. I did not know that he was a thoroughbred aficianado. WOOOOHOOOOO Mark! Thanks for the link (I’d never been to his site). He’s a very capable fill-in host for Rush.
I really like Alpha or Gemologist. I’ve been watching their workouts and races for awhile. I have tickets to the Derby but can’t go because one of my mares is overdue to foal. It’s her first foal and she’ s almost a month late!
Your horse(Daddy knows best) has a legitimate shot.
I handicapped the race and came up with Roman’s horse Dullahan.
I like Gemologist (undefeated at Churchill). Alpha tried to catch him in the Wood Memorial, but Gem pulled away. He appears to be a real competitor and "likes" to be in front of the pack.
Take Charge Indy with that inside post position and Borel up would be my second choice. bttt
I hope any horse Borel is on loses. We had a horse in at Churchhill and Borel was our jockey. He was signing autographs and decided he didn’t want to ride anymore that day. We found out in the paddock with 5 minutes to post. He new our horse and he had a good shot but we had to pick someone else. Needless to say we were pissed!
1 1/2 inches of rain last night, storms may hit mid afternoon.
It is typically a fast drying track but my best bed would be a mudder.
:-)
Yayae! Ky derby-my favorite time of year. I like Went The Day Well, Hansen , Bodiemeister and just about every other horse in the race :-)
