A new ruling makes it easier for anyone attacked by a pit bull or pit bull mix in Maryland to take legal action against the dog's owner. The Maryland Court of Appeals ruling declares pit bulls as a breed are "inherently dangerous," and the owner of a pit bull or a cross-bred pit that attacks is strictly liable for damages, as is any landlord who rents to a pit bull owner.
The Maryland SPCA, which arranges adoptions for dogs that need homes, currently has three pit bulls under its care: a five-month-old Brutus is scheduled to be adopted this week, Ayoki is available and Valentina will be put up for adoption soon. But the SPCA is concerned that it may be harder to find adoptive homes and families may abandon pit bulls after the recent ruling.
"We believe that an animal's behavior should be the determining factor in whether or not the animal is considered dangerous," said Cheryl Bernard Smith, of SPCA. "We don't believe that a particular breed should be pinpointed for that." "All dogs, if you don't train them and show them love, can turn out to be mean animals," said Rodney Taylor, of Prince George's County Animal Management. "It has a lot to do with the owner and how you raise the pet."
The Maryland Court of Appeals decision dealt with the case of a young boy who suffered life-threatening injuries when he was attacked by a pit bull.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!

Yeah, but for some reason its hard to turn an Irish Setter into a killer.
And the dog’s biting power ~ you won’t see those dudes who like the Pits walking around with a Chihuahua will you.
Calling The Dog Whisperer.
But much safer than Maryland politicians...
Good ruling. The statistics clearly show that Pit Bulls are far, far more likely to cause death or serious injuries than any other type of dog.
To Pit Bull owners who will argue that their dogs are “good dogs”, I’d say then you have nothing to worry about from this ruling as your “good dogs” will never hurt or kill anyone, so liability won’t be an issue for you.
Wanna bet?
I’ve known some Pit Bulls that are sweet and cudly..
BUT... with Pit Bulls(and some other dogs) they can become beasts..
Something, who knows what, can cause them morph into “animals”.. not pets..
Totally pissed off and highly aggressive..
One minute sweet and the next monsters.. that IS the problem..
Pitt Bulls are the democrats of dogs..
One minute patriotic and the next treasonous enemies..
Riding your leg one minute and tearing your arm off the next..
If you have a democrat in your household(dog or human)..
keep a rolled up Newspaper handy.. -OR- if your really smart a 9mm gun...
Like they say, you never know when they will go off on you..

I’ve never met a pitbull I didnt like. The dog in “The Little Rascals” was a pitbull.
I love the breed, and some day, I hope to own one. They are only vicious if they are trained to be so, as is with any breed.
I would be hard-pressed to choose between a pitbull, a dobie and a German Shepherd!
So apparently are the idiot judges and legislators that come from MerryLand, but I don’t see anyone proposing the same solution for them.
First, they came for the dogs...
Case closed.
Dogs are only as good as they are loved into being.
My Mom had a little toy poodle, it was the shakiest, most timid afraid of it's own Shadow dog I have ever seen.
But let her see an opossum come into the yard and she became vicious and would attack it like a raving mad dog.
Funniest dang thing I ever saw.
Still gives me chuckles.
When purchasing such a breed, best to go to a proven kennel. Not a puppy mill type op.
