RUSH: Judy in San Antonio. Great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.
CALLER: Hey, there. Mega dittos, Rush.
RUSH: Thank you.
CALLER: Hey, I want to comment on Obama's failed economic policies, because I am now a statistic. I was laid off yesterday. I work in construction. We have a huge backlog of projects, but everyone is afraid to spend money. Our clients have money. They're just afraid to expand or invest. And we've gone through the last two months when they've laid off at least twenty people.
RUSH: And how frustrating is this? Here you are at a construction company. You have a backlog of sites. You've got clients who want things built, and what have they done? They've apparently put their projects on hold 'cause they're just afraid to spend what they've got right now?
CALLER: Yes. Yes. And it's a crying shame. It's a huge disappointment. I just cannot believe what a chokehold Obama has on growth in this country. There are companies with money, but they're terrified to invest and expand because they don't know what the federal government is gonna do to them next. I'm a believer in free markets and capitalism, and I know that markets are inherently risky, but for the love of God! We shouldn't be afraid of our own government!
RUSH: Wait a minute. Markets... Of course! Well, everything's risky, but the government's riskier.
CALLER: Well, it shouldn't be that way!
RUSH: People are frightened. You've nailed it, Judy. People are afraid of the government. Not just what is in store for them financially with, for example, health care and what real new taxes and expenses are coming with that. It's 2,700 pages. They can tell us anything's in it that they want to, and it probably is. (chuckles) But it's not just that. People are afraid to say certain things in certain places. They're afraid it might be overheard, afraid it might be reported.
Look at the TSA problems people have. You know, you say "chokehold," foot on the throat of American businesses, but you're absolutely right. And it's not conducive to any kind of growth or expansion. Plus look at the attitude it creates in people. Fear. Timidity. You know, having a risk-taking, entrepreneurial attitude is necessary. And that's being squeezed out. What was your construction company? Did you do houses or commercial buildings?
CALLER: Commercial exclusively.
RUSH: Oh, jeez!
CALLER: Yeah. (bitter chuckle) Yeah. Well, commercial and medical.
RUSH: Yeah?
CALLER: All I can say is: You know, it's a low-down, dirty shame.
RUSH: Hang in there. Hang in there. Maybe become an illegal immigrant. I've heard they're doing pretty well. (pause) Well, no, they're leaving, too! I don't know what to tell you.

Commercial real estate = DEAD
Wastin’ away again in Obamaville!
Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there’s a POTUS to blame,
But I know it truly is his fault!
LoL.
I’m there with her. Building in our area has come to a virtual standstill. There are a few people around building their own homes but second homes and spec homes are nonexistent. I drove 150 miles to Aspen back in Oct. and counted 2 buildings being erected on the whole drive there. Trucks with tools and lumber used to be a daily sight on the road but I have seen 1 in the last year.
All the Romney-is-as-bad-as-Obama dimwits I see around here continue to overlook that ANY candidate who defeats Obama will re-open the spigots of American investment just by not being Obama. I can’t tell you how much business will go through the roof as soon as the Marxist Bastard has been kicked out of the White House for good. Hate all you want about how Romney isn’t conservative enough (and I join you on a lot of it) but the two things I can promise if Romney is elected is that the American economy will roar back to life and we won’t be adding any more Kagans or Sotomayors to the Supreme Court. That’s two good reasons for holding your nose and voting for Romney. I know you’d rather have a better conservative (so would I) but there *are* differences between Romney and Obama and these are just two.
Perhaps so on the former but I have zero faith on the latter (and that includes the Senate republicans as a backstop for us).
We’ve seen a huge boom in construction crews suddenly becoming “foundation repair” businesses. When we got the foundation fixed after it finally got too bad to ignore, we received more quotes and at 2K less than two years before.
But it’s also bad when the crew working on new roofs around us go up and down the street with fliers to do yard work, just to fill in the time between jobs.
except Wash DC, N. Virginia.
I was down there last month
it was weird to see all these buildings WITHOUT “for lease” or “available” on them like the rest of the country
The Fedgov is bleeding the country to death.
I wonder how many people watching the “Hunger Games” transpose PanEm’s capital with DC.
The liberal media is full of sh t....period.
Amen! I stopped throwing temper tantrums when I turned 10. As much as I loathe, detest and despise Mitt Romney, I KNOW he does not hate this country like the Kenyan clown and his equally repugnant wife apparently do. I will NOT sit this election out to ‘teach’ the GOP establishment a ‘lesson’. That is what happened in 2008 and look what has happened since then: the near total economic destruction of America at the hands of an America hating Marxist.
Even if I have to be drunk and heavily medicated, I will vote for Romney come November. He is far from being my ideal choice of candidate. He is still better than what we have now.
--H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920
The day Obama took office was the day my business in Minnesota started to implode. All new automation projects were cancelled or on indefinite hold, and service calls kept things limping along. Then Crazy Eyes Dayton became governor, and business died.
I am now back in Texas, and wish it would hurry up and go back to being a Republic.
Just lost mine after 14 years. There are jobs out there but lots of competition. One job I interviewed for had 48 qualified applicants. A friend of a friend in banking interviewed for a position that received several HUNDRED applications. We’re talking mid to senior level management people. Heck in my industry, I am competing against acquaintances who are just as competent. That’s one reason I am keeping my options open and thinking outside my comfort zone. Obama has to be defeated. I am no Romney fan. I find him smarmy and far too liberal but we can’t handle four more years of this.
Amen! I went off yesterday and was told to calm down. I am over this President and what has happened. I will hold my nose again and vote Romney. My husband has been out of work for almost 7 mos. and I am thankful that I am able to still cover the bills, but I can’t hold on if this POTUS gets re-elected and Obamacare kicks in.
I have to believe that at least business will start spending a bit more when he gets thrown out of the WH and the economy can limp back a bit.
Yeah, my uncle is getting richer by the minute there.
Commercial real estate = DEAD
New businesses, nada. Established business - on the ropes and hanging on for dear life. This is a terrible thing to do to this country and the idiots in DC are out to lunch.
