Barack Obama 'Making History' Again
American Thinker ^ | April 28, 2012 | Jeannie DeAngelis

America has had 43 presidents, but only a handful of them are considered truly great. First, of course, is the humble general and commander-in-chief of the Continental Army, George Washington, and certainly right behind him is Abraham Lincoln, who saved the Union and whose actions led to the abolition of slavery.

Then there was foundational figurehead Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence and doubled the size of the country; a surprising wartime leader named Harry Truman whose bold decision brought the end of WWII; and the incomparable Ronald Reagan, communism-buster and Cold War victor.

Now, after just three years, a new name is being bandied about as a possible addition to the short list of presidential notables, and that name is Barack Obama.

Recently, while campaigning for her husband's re-election in Omaha, Nebraska, Michelle Obama declared, "We made history." After less than one term, it might seem a bit premature to claim historical preeminence, but truth is, by being identified as America's first African-American/biracial president, Obama has in fact made history.

In addition to his initial achievement of surmounting racial prejudice, according to his wife Michelle, in less than one term, not only has the president led America "out of the dark and into the light," but his pioneering leadership has also catapulted him into the realm of presidential greatness.

Oddly enough, when backing up her "making history" claim, the first lady chose not to cite Obama's economic, foreign, or social policy endeavors. Instead, the first lady focused her attention on Obama's $950-billion signature legislation, the Affordable Healthcare for America Act.

Expounding upon the president's signature achievement, Michelle Obama said, "Two years ago, we made history together by finally passing health reform...

Obama cannot be great because there is no greatness in him. He totally lacks the capability to step outside himself and his pettiness; greatness is completely beyond him.

Personally, I hope he becomes most famous for becoming the first ex-President to live outside the US following his (single) term.

Well there is good news and bad news. Obama is a dictator like Hitler, the good news is he is not near as effective.

5)First President to have America’s credit rating downgraded 6)First President to add 5 trillion in debt. 7) First President to be elected without any investigation of his past by the mainstream media. Anyone else care to add?

and certainly right behind him is Abraham Lincoln,

Stopped reading right there. The writer is obviously ignorant of history and constitutional principles, and not worthy of the time.

AGREED!

In my opinion Lincoln is consistently the most overrated president of all.

As far as I'm concerned Lincoln's usual high ranking is mostly due to the Halo-Effect. He was and is considered great by many people because many people consider him great. That had its genesis in the fact that his side won the war so they got to write the post war history books.

And now, of course, being the First Patron Saint of the Professional Black Victims of America, his stature is almost unquestioned (and unquestionable).

If Lincoln was anywhere near "great" he would have been enough of a leader to stop 625,000 of his countrymen from killing each other.

The death toll from the war between the states is about 2% of the 1860 US population. If a modern day president presided over the internecine war deaths of 6 million Americans would he be considered as great a leader as Lincoln?

Well said, I had a similar thought, but I thought I would look at others’ comments to see if someone had said what I was thinking. You did, indeed, and it was worded much better than my comment.

Been saying the same things for years. A “Great” President would not have allowed the slaughter of so many fellow Americans. He nearly ruined this country in the 1860’s and so damaged the 10th amendment that we are unable now to stop much if not all of the Federal overreach of Obama.

“Barack Obama ‘Making History’ Again”

The title should read “Barack Obama Remaking History Again”

So much more accurate, no?

Yes, it is. It's also history that he and Michelle will rue the day they both participated in remaking it. I'm convinced his legacy will not be kind to either of them.

Dense this evening, aren’t we?

If we are going to blame Lincoln for the war he fought, as if nobody else had anything to do with it, then surely it is equally reasonable to blame Churchill for WWII.

He resisted those who decided to start a war. Had he not resisted there would have been no war, therefore he was responsible for there being a war. (Actually, that’s not entirely accurate, as the resistance started before he came to power.) See Hitler’s orations. Churchill the war-mongering SOB.

Similarly, Lincoln resisted those who decided to start a war. Had he not resisted, there would have been no war, therefore he was responsible for the fact of the war.

Is that sufficiently diagramatic for you?

What does Churchhill have to do with a thread on US Presidents in general and comments on Abe Lincoln in particular?

I can only conclude you are an over reaching troll.
