Voting for Romney? Where is your line in the sand? (Vanity)

Posted on 04/26/2012 9:18:03 AM PDT by Student0165

I want to ask those who consider themselves conservatives, and are going to vote for Romney because he happens to have an (R) instead of a (D) behind his name on the ballot sheet, where do you draw your personal line in the sand and say "No more"? For stupid people reading this (liberals and DHS type workers), I don't mean violence - I mean not voting for "the lesser of two evils".

No, Mitt Romney is not the perfect conservative candidate, but I WOULD VOTE FOR MR. POTATO HEAD OVER OBAMA!

then doesn’t it stand to reason that Romney probably hates America too, at least America as it has been and should be

I don't get that from Romney which is why I can vote for him over Obama any day. He's just another child of wealth and privilige who doesn't know much about life for most private-sector, middle class people. If he's smart, in my opinion, he will turn to the right and offer an alternative to Obama and his legions. If he's not smart, and I'm not sure that he is, then Obama will most likely win.

I’m with PeteB570. Road kill > Obama. It is binary.

So you are voting for a guy who voted for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House.

Truly, you might benefit from taking a fresh, new, closer look at Willard Romney. Somehow, I think you have missed seeing him so far.

The GOP-e threw away the Christian vote PERIOD.

After many months of conservatives’ warning the GOP-e about the consequences of nominating Romney, lo and behold, he’s getting nominated anyway. Romney has no base... no discernible core values, and policy positions that are all over the political map. Remember... Etch-a-Sketch???

And now, somehow WE’RE the “bad guys” for not supporting him...

If all those, that you supported (Newt or whoever else) are now supporting Romney, what does that say about you and what you believed about those you supported? Drawing a line in the sand simply limits your warfare options...

Actually, if you think about it, somebody who is voting for Romney because “not voting for him is a vote for Obama” IS voting for Romney because he has an “R” after his name. They are assuming - unthinkingly - that the “R” candidate is the only possible candidate who can hope to oppose the “D” candidate.

If all of the conservatives who said “I don't like Romney but we have to vote for him to vote out Obama” would actually vote their conscience and get together behind a credible third party candidate, that third party candidate would have a fair-ro-better chance of winning it all.

A brilliant refutation of the false dichotomy argument that get thrown around so glibly by the Romney crowd.

I wish people would consider it more carefully. The reasoning goes like this “Nobody will ever vote for a third party candidate, therefore I shouldn't throw away my vote.” Under normal circumstances, where the grievances between the parties are often small and do not contain a broad based appeal to the voters, such thinking is correct. However, we now face a different position; one where the third party could contrast with both party's candidates on almost every major issue. Is it likely to succeed, obviously not; but the people of this country specialize in doing the unlikely if not the impossible. Why give up just because you've decided it can't work. It can't if everyone thinks that; but what if they didn't?

Now might be the time for change we can believe in. Let's face it, a third candidate is still anybody but Obama.

I’d vote for 3 week old road kill if it got the current Prez out of office.

Cute, but stupid.

Reelecting Obama with a veto proof Congress will guarantee his impeachment. Romney as POTUS will perpetuate the march of Marxism.

If we cannot have a genuinely conservative president with a commitment to restore Constitutional government we are better off with a sworn enemy. Obama is the enemy. Romney is a coward.

Makes you wonder about the sincerity of some so-called Conservatives posting on FR. But, some of the insincere are being exposed now by their own words. And that’s a good thing.

I’m already looking forward to the Romney second term. The economic recovery, energy renaissance, stock market surge, and lowered unemployment will be fantastic. Then after the Senate supermajority occurs due to the 2014 mid-terms, most entitlements are reformed and the tax code improved.

Was looking for that sarc tag, but didn't find it. I'll have another look.

Assuming a third party candidate has a prayer would be the unthinking assumption, IMHO.

Why? There's no law that says that the Republicans have to be one of the major parties in our structurally-enforced two-party system.

A vote for a third party candidate weighs just as much as a vote for a Republican candidate. If a third party candidate were to get more votes than the Republican candidate, then the Republican becomes the "third party candidate."

If conservatives actually had backbones, they would understand that we could all band together to back a principled, movement-conservative candidate who is not Romney. Face it, the only thing really stopping this is the fact that most people are, by nature, simple-minded and unable to think outside the boxes in which they currently exist. They *assume* that the way it is now is the way it always has to be, and therefore end up perpetuating what they claim to hate.

Organization, funding, these are really not impediments to the rapid appearance of a strong third party organization, if significant numbers of conservatives would break out of the box and vote the way they believe, rather than how they've been frightened into voting by the GOP-E.

Organisation - what, you think the only people who know how to organise something exist in one of the two Parties? Seriously? With the way the GOP-E is driving off grassroots conservatives as we speak, the pool of organisers and workers that a conservative movement can tap is increasing daily.

Funding? Did you know that if 10 million conservatives (in a nation of, what, a statistical 124 million across the country) each donated $10 dollars, you'd have $100 million, right off the bat? That's not even talking about SuperPAC money that could become available if a serious movement really looked like it was getting started.

the landscape this year is a lot like 1992 - widespread discontent among conservatives coupled with increasingly disaffected conservative and moderate Dems, independents, and Republicans. In June of 1992, Perot was polling 40+% consistently. If he hadn't have started seeing little green men on his lawn and made such a hash out of his own campaign organisation, he could very well have won that year. As it stood, he still got 19%, even with having dropped out and become a wacko after July, before getting back in at the last moment.

Think about it - the only that keeping Romney a viable choice is a whole boatload of conservatives who *say* they don't like him.

DU’ers jerk off to these kinds of threads.

Terrorists crouch on carpets praising Allah for your success at dividing Republicans.

How soon before I see the Drudge headline that the once-great conservative website Free Republic is now flat-out PRO-OBAMA?

Shame on you.

I don’t plan to vote for Romney because he will have an “R” by his name but because he is my only hope to defeat Obama.

You should consider the smart move. Go get a picture of the justices on the SCOTUS. It looks like a hospice. There might be a lot of vacancies very soon. Do not let Obama pick more than half the court.

Can't wait to see them throw palin under the bus when she comes out at the GOP convention and endorses MR in prime time.

I am more and more reminded of a bobble-head circle jerk.
