Apr 22, 2012 Urban Outfitters Condemned for Jewish Star Tee

Olivia Katrandjian and Christina Ng: The Anti-Defamation League condemned Urban Outfitters for selling a t-shirt with a symbol that looks like the yellow Star of David Jews were forced to wear in Nazi Europe.
We find this use of symbolism to be extremely distasteful and offensive, and we are outraged that your company would make this product available to your customers, Barry Morrison, regional director of the ADL, wrote in a letter e-mailed to Richard A. Hayne, President and CEO of Urban Outfitters.
In March, the company sold a line of Irish-themed clothing and accessories that U.S. Congress said portrayed severe and negative stereotypes.
One of the womens tank-tops says, Irish I Were Drunk with a shamrock and another t-shirt says, Kiss Me Im Drunk, Or Irish, Or Whatever. A hat that shows a stick figure on all fours vomiting says, Irish Yoga.
In Oct. 2011, Sasha Houston Brown, a 24-year-old Native American woman from Minnesota, wrote a letter to the company about a line of Navajo items she claimed were cheap, vulgar and culturally offensive.
Brown said she was offended by plastic dreamcatchers wrapped in pleather hung next to an indistinguishable mass of artificial feather jewelry and hyper sexualized clothing featuring an abundance of suede, fringe and inauthentic tribal patterns.

Pictures of the TShirt upthread. I don't see any similarity.
“Wow, thats ugly. Who would pay $100 for that?”
Democrats.
I am just trying to figure out the angle for attacking Republicans -— the ADL ceased to be a Jewish organization years ago and only serves the Democrats.
I can’t figure out their angle here.
What’s their damned problem? They’re still stuck in the 20th Century, with their verbal condemnations. In the 21st Century, if something offends you, have street riots in at least three different countries, and call for the death of the offender while burning the flag of his country and stomping and spitting on it./s
What a bunch of dumba@#es. That’s a cool T-shirt.
Liberals...who would then complain that they don't have enough money.
You’re right. What a disappointment. Somebody should make a King of Holland tee-shirt, with an actual yellow star and “Jude” sign. That way they can show solidarity with the Jews of Europe before every last one leaves due to the violence.
BTW, has the ADL issued any pro forma condemnations of that violence yet? If they have, then why does it continue? If they haven’t, then why should they bother? There’s plenty to condemn in high priced tee shirts.
That looks like what I’d wear to paint or garden. Hideous, but who cares. The ADL has to stretch to see the yellow Star of David in what’s on that pocket.
No one cares about the King of Denmark. Or Finland, where Jews prayed on the front lines alongside the Wehrmacht, fighting the Soviets. Wish there were more non-individual examples to cite.
That is NOT the Star of David.
It’s fictional, of course, just like George Washington and the Cherry Tree. The King of Denmark did not go around on a bicycle wearing a Jewish star badge to protest the Nazis. But Leon Uris created the legend, and when legends become facts, you go with the legend. So a tee-shirt with the yellow star and the word Jude or in France Juif on it would serve as a “King of Denmark” protest against anti-Jewish violence such as was perpetrated in Toulouse.
If that’s it, it looks like a really bad str trek uniform
