The ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee said on CNN this morning that there’s extra concern for President Obama’s safety seeing as how he’s around people with “guns strapped on their legs.”
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) spoke with Candy Crowley on “State of the Union” about the Secret Service scandal. Cummings and Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) sent a letter to Secret Service director Mark J. Sullivan last week asking for a full accounting of the events and a history past disciplinary trouble with agents’ behavior abroad.
“It bothers me a lot because I know that there are a lot of folks who are perhaps looking for opportunities to do harm to the president or others that the Secret Service, you know, guard,” Cummings said. “And you never know what they think that is a moment of weakness.”
He was asked if he has more concerns for President Obama’s safety because he’s African-American.
“First of all, let me say I have concern about all presidents and everybody that the Secret Service guards,” Cummings said. “But the fact is that African-American people have always expressed concern to me about this president. They see, Candy, folk around this president with guns strapped on their legs. And they say, you know, how can that be?”
“And they’re just — they worry,” he added.
The congressman said he thinks the Cartagena incident was limited to the 11 relieved from duty, “but we’ll find out.”
“So, you know, you can’t, you know, legislate people not being stupid, but certainly you can uphold the high standards of this organization,” Cummings said. “Keep in mind, the Secret Service has been around since 1865, and we’re going to make sure that it remains the great organization that it is.”
No it’s “guns strapped on THEY legs”
“a lot of folks who are perhaps looking for opportunities to do harm to the president”.
That’s not true, everyone I know wants this marxist punk well and safe. Ok, maybe with a touch of maleria but safe. No martyrdom for this ass clown/ just a through ass whoopin in the general. Once he’s out of office I wouldn’t care if he got run over by a Chicago bus. Fact I may root for it to happen.
There are no coincidences in politics
He travels with gun fighters?
Think caligula
When he loses the next election he will go down in history as the failure/destructive community organizer that he is, if he gets assasinated he will be elevated to godlike icon
And Candy Crowley has always been one of CNN’s more “responsible”, uh...correspondents.
Maybe I haven’t had enough caffeine yet, but who exactly are the people with guns strapped on their legs? What is he saying here?
Obama’s own SS. Kind of the beginning Nazi Germany.
“There are no coincidences in politics “
My thought, as well. He’s closing ranks. Things are going to get interesting.
They are paving the way for obama to surround himself with the army he has been building since he took over the WH. He threw his SS detail under the bus before election time so he can be better placed to call martial law. I don’t put anything past these evil scumbags.
Indeed. Is there a more “reasonable” reading of that than he’s worried that O’s Secret Service agents have gone bad, and are just waiting for the right moment?
Candy Crowley is “Mrs. Alan Colmes”, isn’t she?
That pretty much expresses my thinking on this. I want the arrogant POS defeated at the ballot box by American Patriots. After that, I don’t care what happens to him.
Bet the congressman would sleep better if Obama hired Calypso Louie or the Black Panthers for security.
Yeah, that’s what it sounded like to me too. That is some seriously bad, dangerous stuff to throw out there. I think Cummings should be officially questioned on the House floor about his comments.
Woops....wrong Crowley.
Ah, the race card again. I knew I remembered correctly that there was some racist stench about this hack:
Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) believes members of the Tea Party support Herman Cain as a way to prove that they are not racist.
In an interview with David for this weeks PRESS Pass, Cummings said, I think when [members of the tea party] can vote for a Herman Cain and hear him say the things that he says they feel like, Well, you know, I can, I support this guy and... so it shows that Im not racist and Im supportive.
