(Posters note: 20 minutes of non-stop brilliance)
An immigrant to the U.S. from Canada, Mark Steyn has become one of Americas sharpest conservative commentators.Excerpt, read the rest and see the video at The Daily CallerA bestselling author and a columnist for National Review Online, Steyn is also a popular guest host of Rush Limbaughs radio show, a regular on Hugh Hewitts radio show and a visiting fellow at Hillsdale College.
As funny as he is erudite...
He was very good in this particular video interview. He didn’t feel the need to be on the verge of laughter every second.
“I am sadden Dr. Williams lost his wonderful wife several years back.”
Yes that was sad. I’m going to miss his telling of all the wonderful gifts he gave her for her birthday:
a toaster
an ironing board
a chain saw
a butter churner
In his humor you could tell he really loved her.
“...he really stepped in it with his trashing of Newt..”
OOPSIE!!!!
Since I did not listen to the program, I did not realize he had trashed Newt.
I don’t think too highly of Steyn as of now.
No one trashes my Newt.
Oh gosh. He was so funny and wonderful.
He also gave his wife a ladder so she could climb a tree in their yard to retrieve things.
He also gave her different items for washing the car.
It went on forever. He was so funny.
You could tell they were very much in love. They were an extremely special pair.
You made me laugh all over again with your list of items. Thank you.
Steyn was also on C-Span In Depth recently.

We need people like Steyn and Geert Wilders ( Netherlands) to warn about the loss of free speech. Both of them have had to endure hate speech tribunals of which they were exonerated.
Rush is finally realizing the severity of this issue.
One young guy in the UK was sentenced to prison for 56 days for tweeting something about wanting a soccer player to die. It was deemed racist. Yeah, it’s a terrible tweet - but prison !?
You’d have to imprison half the soccer stadiums for catcalls like that. Prison for hollering “Kill the Ref!” ?

It’s coming here if Obama wins another term. In fact it is already here. No conservative can get away with what liberals can spout off.
Rush was fabulous in his early years. He took a lot of calls from liberals, and he shredded them mercilessly, with prejudice.
He was at his best crafting an air-tight, perfectly-reasoned argument to why the feminazi or ecofreak or socialist was dead wrong in their belief.
Now he just rags on for an hour and a half before he takes his first token call agreeing with him or setting him up to make a point.
Rush has broken the cardinal rule of becoming boring. Not always. He still has a silver tongue and wonderful voice. Occasionally he goes on a passionate rant that still borders on brilliant.
But I can’t stand to listen to him drone on over a single point for an unbroken 60-90 minutes. It is boring.
I wish he would go back to debating liberals and shredding them. But he is to arrogant and full of himself to change or listen to any criticism. He is still good to listen to but hasn’t been great in many years.
It was his lowest moment - or lowest moments - of his career. In several Rush shows and in many NRO columns he slammed Newt mercilessly - seemingly oblivious to the fact that the alternatives were Mitt and Santorum - both extraordinarily flawed by Steyn’s own standards.
Its like for about two months he totally forgot that we had only a couple alternatives, and he trashed the one who probably agrees with him the most often and the only one with the talent to make fun of liberals the way Steyn does It was out of body.
I absolutely agree with your take on this. I’ve always loved listening to Mark Steyn when he fills in for Rush. The man is so articulate, and simply brilliant. He has a unique ability to communicate wisdom with a large dose of wit. He went so off the rails with his Newt bashing, I made it a point not to listen to him for a few months. He’s lost some luster in my eyes, and it will take more time to for him to regain my complete respect.
Now that we've hijacked the thread I'll also admit to liking Mark Steyn.
Hey, some of my best friends are banjo players!
Well put: he lost some luster.
I don’t like it when folks totally trash a good elected official or a media figure or writer for one faux pas. No one is perfect.
Having said that, Steyn kept at this for so long that he did drop a few points in my eyes.
Bump for Later
At least he doesn’t kiss liberal ass like hannity.
This Reno and smiley show is a good example of the art of radio, even though this was at a transitional period using TV.
Cousin Irving keeps the theme and Reno,Smiley and the Tennessee Cut ups keep us entertained.
It is very difficult for one person to keep people entertained and informed for 3 hours a day via radio.
Good ol fashioned values and good ol kroger prices LOL
Getting back to the topic of soft tyranny,
I just filed my taxes via efile for the first time.
Part of the process prompted me to register an efile PIN.
When I went to do this, I got a notification from the IRS that that creating the PIN gave them the right to track EVERYTHING ABOUT ME.
I said no thanks.
The disclaimer gave me NO RIGHT TO PRIVACY
And you see it accelerating all around us with the Obama administration
Totally agree.
I still listen to him (when my wife lets me), but I much prefer his old style.
