Would a Romney-Gingrich ticket be acceptable to Jim Robinson & other conservative Freepers? [NO!! ]
[Not only no, but HELL NO!! NEVER AGAIN!! - Jim] | April 9, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell

Posted on 04/09/2012 8:06:05 AM PDT by mitchell001

Since Newt Gingrich is talking teamwork and cooperation with Romney & Santorum to defeat Obama, would Jim Robinson and conservative Free Republic people join me in accepting and pushing a Romney-Gingrich ticket. Frankly, I bristle at the mention of Romney-Nicki Halley or other RINO tickets. Personally, Romney would be very smart to put conservatives at the table of his campaign and administration team. Newt is so passionate about Big Ideas, reform and he knows how to push the levers of Congress. Mitt Romney can be a good president, however, with Newt on his team, Mitt Romney could be a great president. We need Gingrich's brains and political skill on the ticket and in the administration.

My contention is that if the GOP holds the Oval Office and at least one body of Congress, we will be in a much better position to fight the elite and the Country Club network.

That would be nice, except the GOP IS the elite and Country Club network. They believe in controlling the masses (us) with big government.

It’s amazing how often these days that joke fits what we’re seeing.

Indeed. .No question; when Repubs have a choice; they too often reinforce Dem ignorance; rather than counter it. But no question too; that while Dems are 'Masters' of black political arts'; Repubs remain, lowly apprentices.

Of course; their 'core political beliefs' are not sourced from same; and not on same abhorrent level as those of Left; no matter how often they agree; or imagine, they must pretend to. IMHO. . .

Why even go there; Gingrich not going to take ‘second’ slot. . .

Gingrich would lick between Romney's toes to be on the ticket.

They pushed Romney as the most electable candidate, when in reality is fairly unelectable with strong opposition from both sides.

Outside of the fact that they identify with the Romneys of the world, I believe they are also looking at someone who won't get utterly clobbered in the northeast and California in order to do better down ticket, assuming that the heartand and south can take care of itself.

They want RINOs. They think that is the route to being a national party. In a sense, they are right, a national MINORITY party of Bob Michels, Gerald Fords, Nelson Rockefellers and William Welds.

Ya think? You may be right; just don't know. What I do know; is that it would allow me, to go into voting booth; with some confidence; that as of right now; am not feeling; and because of the abomination we know as RNC; do not expect to feel. Think, no question; we would have our greatest chance of winning; if they did put Newt up there with Romney.

But no; think RNC is not bold enough; brave enough;and worse; they clearly, do not believe 'their' voters are smart enough; to appreciate Newt on ballot.

I cannot believe there will be a fight....simply the lip-service we've seen time and again and then they fold.

I'm pretty much sold that no matter who gets to Washington now it will remain a Mafia squad that looks out for it's own and simply uses the American tax dollars to manipulate their positions favorable to themsleves and their own personal monetary securities.

The World is ramping up for an entity to govern over the entire....all politicians now are geared for positioning themsleves in the best position they can with this in mind.

While we're going thru our elections, the world nation leaders are being shifted as well....and some more aggressive than others attempting to retain their power.

So ultimately it's all about the Global agenda....Geitner, Clinton etc. have been lining our monetary resources for just that under this administration....along with China holding their feet on our necks.

So no, I do not see anybody holding anyones feet to any fire about what the people want. That's long gone now.

I think Newt would jump at the chance and I think he would be a terrific Veep pick.

But I agree with you that Romney and the GOP elite will never go for it. Too bold.

They will take some other moderate northeastern hump to balance the ticket. The balance they're looking for is ideological parity with Obama/Biden.

God forbid they rock the boat of this nation, since everything is going so well.

We're sailing right at the iceberg. Stay the course, jackasses.

The candidates nominate themselves... and we, the card-carrying GOP members vote for them in the primaries.

We all need to look in the mirror for this fiasco. There is no friggin’ conspiracy about it. Sure the GOP elite love Romney, but they ain’t the sum total of the primary voters.

Too many ‘conservatives’ were looking for the second coming of Jesus for their candidate (ie: were looking for the perfect candidate) but couldn’t find one. So they flitted from one candidate to another like bees looking for pollen.

Face it, the GOP primary voters were too d@#n fickle this time; and now, instead of settling for half a loaf in an imperfect candidate (Bachmann, Perry, Cain, Newt)... we have to choose between Rick “I’m running for Pope!” Santorum or Mitt “Obama” Romney.

Some friggin’ choice.

(And based on the results, it looks like the average Republican primary voter really isn’t sold on the idea of Pope Santorum. A good 20-40% are, depending on the state... but not a majority.

And the same goes for Mitt ‘Obama’ Romney.

In other words, now that the party’s over, the GOP voter is looking at the mess they created and crying bitter tears.

Any ticket that has Romney on it is unacceptable to me. Also, I would deeply disappointed in Gingrich, Santorum, or any other that have called themselves “conservative” IF the sellout like that.

A conservative running mate does not make Romney acceptable. It just wrecks the credibility of the “running mate.” Anyone that accepts such a place on a Romney ticket will, IMO, have disqualified themselves for any serious future chance in a run for POTUS.

Well said.

I think there’s a lot of frustration being vented on this forum right now.

I am sincerely hoping people cool down by the convention, because some of this is just plain destructive.

We’re truly at the point where our nation could be lost and vanish, a mere historical footnote.

Every trend is negative right now.

You are on the money. That is clearly what they want. I just think they are wrong. People either elect or reject conservatives. But at least true conservative candidates give conservatives a reason to vote for them.

When we run Democrat light, the conservatives don’t come out and the Democrats vote for Democrat heavy anyway.

I think the GOP leadership is delusional.

Your view is pretty common here at Free Republic. I am in the camp that a 2nd Obama term will be far more dangerous than a Romney presidency. Some here have said that another Obama term with a hostile Republican congress is better than a Romney presidency with a Republican congress to give him what he wants.

I can see some validity to that point, but either way, Obama is going to get 2 of his deep communist SCOTUS nominees through our panzy Senate. A GOP Senate would reject his 1st nominees, then feel compelled not to reject the next ones.

I would feel a lot better with a mild leftist like Romney selecting SCOTUS nominees, than a radical communist Muslim doing so. What happens when he wants to put the first Muslim on the bench? He will scream “racism” if the GOP Senate so much as hints they will block his nominee.

I can about guarantee that a Muslim will be nominated in a 2nd Obama term. I hope you like Sharia law.

I guess it doesn’t work anymore to those who don’t have the discernment of rational truth, based on actual numbers.
