Since Newt Gingrich is talking teamwork and cooperation with Romney & Santorum to defeat Obama, would Jim Robinson and conservative Free Republic people join me in accepting and pushing a Romney-Gingrich ticket. Frankly, I bristle at the mention of Romney-Nicki Halley or other RINO tickets. Personally, Romney would be very smart to put conservatives at the table of his campaign and administration team. Newt is so passionate about Big Ideas, reform and he knows how to push the levers of Congress. Mitt Romney can be a good president, however, with Newt on his team, Mitt Romney could be a great president. We need Gingrich's brains and political skill on the ticket and in the administration.
“We have to either take back the GOP, or form the Conservative Party. Which is the most practical move?”
One is a frontal assault on an entrenched, supplied, and determined enemy. That attack has been under way since 2010, and has failed miserably.
The other turns their flank and opens the opportunity to bring in principled libertarians and what were the Reagan Democrats. None of the GOP nomenklatura would need to be placated or able to poison the well, as they have been doing since 1989 and before.
Now is not the time, because of down ticket races. December 2012 is the time to begin.
About the only ‘true’ Conservative I can think of who would be acceptable to those who don’t want to vote R would be FR’s own Tom Hoefling.

I am not endorsing nor not endorsing, just saying if you are bound and determined to go third party due to a RINO, no need to choose a liberal third party option.
So, you want Bush 41's second term instead followed by another Democrat?
It might help if Romney is the nominee. Sort of like having Dick Cheney as back-up. Not as perfect, but in the ball park.
Not me.
“Trojan Horse” Romney is NOT acceptable on ANY ticket!
“Why would you choose the Constitution or Libertarian parties? Their current nominees have pretty much the same negatives as Romney. Libertarian party has Gary Johnson who might as well be a Democrat, pro abortion, pro pot, anti-gun, etc. The Constitution Party has Virgil Goode who up until a few years ago was a Democrat, switched to a Republican when he lost a primary and voted RINO. He is just as liberal as Romney on most issues.
If you are going to go third party, at least choose one that has a Conservative candidate versus trading one liberal for another.”
On second thought, public discussion would be more helpful for more people. State your case. I am genuinely interested and open to persuasion.
Thank you. It is just so sad. Took an oath to defend the country from threats, both foreign and domestic, and they have won on my watch. I have voted every election, local, state, and national for the last 40 years. If I decide to vote for President, as I will be in the voting booth for the local contests, I will write in Palin. What difference does it make?
My vote would be Paul Ryan.
I’ll eat your share, my grandkids share, and the share of all my nieces and nephews. And no, I will not learn to like it, but you play the hand you’re dealt. I am extremely disappointed at our nominee. But if Gingrich or Palin or West is the VP, it will make it a lot easier for me. You do what you want.
BTW, do you have children or grandchildren? I might be proven wrong, but at least a Romney/whatever ticket will give us more time. Are you hell bent on bringing about Armageddon? That’s what we’re headed for with BO.
Because Newt has a $4.5 million campaign debt that he would like to have Mittens help him pay off? Do I get a prize?
Do you mean romney would BUY anything to get elected? Like having his church people spend millions to destroy Newt and Rick so he could win states. You mean like buying endorsements from senators and congressmen....so it APPEARS he is really backed, rather than the fact that these politicians have either bills to pay for need campaign money.
“Obama is literally the worst thing that could happen to this country.”
No, but you can see it from there.
You said...
“The GOP has been like an abusive husband and conservatives like a battered wife”
Yeah but they say they love us and beg us to come back
With all due respect, this kind of speculation is nonsense. The primaries are not over and we must not concede to the least attractive candidate. Baiting support for Romney in this way is in my opinion counterproductive.
The primaries are not over!
A brokered convention is our only hope. Romney is unacceptable to anyone who loves this country.
Agree! Rubio is not eligible! If he is chosen, it will be a disaster.
With a certain group, Romney's "Mormon problem" won't be offset by Newt due to past wives. They will stay home and let Obama coast back in.
Newt's persona would also outshine Romney's milquetoast tepidness. Romney's also too cautious to pick Newt; I expect he'll go for bland and pandering.
I don't see the Palin "mistake" being made again. No first term female governor is going to gladly go through that gauntlet again. Romney will likely be drawn to someone with "national" experience, either at the cabinet level or the congress.
If he went that route, I could see Romney talking to someone like "moderate" KayBay, who's retiring from the Senate but she's 68. She has a 90% lifetime rating from the ACU but no one here would call her a conservative firebrand. Here's a thread from Feb. 2008 when RedState speculated she could be on McCain's list. It's a great thread with folks suggesting McCain would pick a woman and a governor. KayBay was not liked.
Agreed, and this is what all these anti-Mitt posters forget. We can still work through Congress, where most likely new conservatives will be elected. I do not want Mitt either, but a vote away from our candidate, no matter who it is, it a vote for Odumbo!!
