An NBC News producer has been fired after a misleading report on the Trayvon Martin case suggested that shooter George Zimmerman was racially motivated.
The edited audio clip from a 911 call implied that Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., shot Martin because he was black.
"This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black," according to the clip that aired March 27 on the Today show.
A transcript of the actual recording of the call between Zimmerman and the 911 dispatcher shows the version that was aired was significantly modified.
George Zimmerman: "This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something. It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about."
911 dispatcher: "O.K., and this guy - is he white, black or Hispanic?"
George Zimmerman: "He looks black."
After critics blasted the segment as misleading, NBC News launched an internal investigation into how the recording was edited, and concluded on April 3 that there had been a mistake.
The unnamed producer, who has been described as experienced, was fired on Thursday. His dismissal was first reported Friday evening by The New York Times, which cited two people familiar with the matter.
NBC News declined to comment about the firing.

A video or audio producer is usually just a low level hourly employee who DOES WHAT HE IS TOLD TO DO. In this case I suspect that the producer was told by the editor and director exactly what to do and the producer then produced the product that was aired.
This is a whitewash. No racial pun intended.
This calls for the axing of the head of NBC.
The punishment (firing of an inconsequential low ranking segment producer) does not fit the crime.
And unnamed. Possibly an imaginary scapegoat even.
Getting caught was the mistake.
“The unnamed producer, who has been described as experienced”
The whole thing is BS. The guy was experienced, he knew what was expected of him. There was no “mistake”. He’s being let go as a scapegoat, and I guarantee that as soon as everything calms down he’ll be picked right up again an NBC crony.
What’s his name? hate to ruin his life as he did to Zimmermann...
This seems like a phony move.
Before long he be hired by the Obama admin
“The unnamed producer, who has been described as experienced, was fired on Thursday.”
If he’s unnamed, how do we know that he was fired?
We want to know the name and we want to interview him. He owes the country an explanation and a big apology, especially to Zimmerman. Who else was involved?
Hard to grasp; just what kind of world these people want 'their' children growing up in; how vulnerable they want 'their' children to be; their families; in light of the hate the MSM has invited, promoted and celebrated .
No question, this was a bonus story for a cause. The bigger gift, of course, was simply in the 'name' of George Zimmerman. . .
How lucky can the Left get? Add to that, the icing; the contradiction of Holder/Obama Justice Department. . .
Love that. . .
“Hes a scapegoat.”
Maybe-—but he’s now eligible to be the diversity czar for hussein.
Jim Bell
Executive Producer, Today, NBC News
There was speculation earlier today that Today show producer Jim Bell might have been the person responsible for the edit, which portrayed Zimmerman as a racist, or having a racial motive in shooting Trayvon Martin. Bell did not respond to a question directed at his Twitter account earlier today.
The Today shows editorial control policies which include a script editor, senior producer oversight, and in most cases legal and standards department reviews of material to be broadcast missed the selective editing of the call, said the NBC executive.

Let’s examine the difference in how the media handled the UK News Corporation hacking scandal versus NBC.
Plenty of bias.
Looking at this photo, I’d say this dude is gay.
I haven’t thought about it because I’m not that type of a person, but seeing that a white dude sided for trayvon, distorted facts just doesn’t sit right. It’s like being a traitor. Maybe it’s all about money. The green stuff. Going Green.
I think if a black dude did it, I’d be more understanding.
Please don’t tell me this guy is a white hispanic. (He may be because he’s not blond).
