Conflicting Stories by Martin Family About Trayvon's Last Night?
Friday, March 30, 2012 | Kristinn

I don't know what it means, but this strikes me as odd. From an interview with the parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin by the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA):

Martin, Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton; Benjamin Crump, the family lawyer; Al Sharpton and former New York Gov. David Patterson participated in an exclusive 1-hour telephone conference call last Thursday with more than three dozen publishers from the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).

Martin told publishers how he learned that his son had been killed.

“I had been out to dinner. When we got back between 10:15 and 10:45, he wasn’t at home. The night before, he had been to the movies with my nephew, who had recently moved up to the Orlando area from Miami. Every time Trayvon would come up here, they would find something to do, usually they would go to dinner. My nephew is 20 years old, a very responsible young man. So there was not panic at that moment that he was not home. I made several attempts to call his cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. I called my nephew’s cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. So at that point, I figured they had been in the movies because they would always go to the movies.”

Tracy Martin and his girlfriend went to bed. But the next morning, the day Martin and his son had planned to return to Miami, he learned that Trayvon still wasn’t back in the house. Tracy called his nephew again, this time reaching him and learning that Trayvon wasn’t with him.

Today, CNN published comments from a Martin family attorney that seems to conflict with the account proffered by Tracy Martin:

During the 10-day suspension, Tracy Martin took his son with him to Sanford, about four hours away from Miami, while he visited his fiancée because neither he nor Fulton wanted their son to stay in his hometown where he could enjoy his friends, said Horton, who has been in close contact with Martin's father.

"He wasn't just suspended from school and up at Sanford kicking it and having a good time," said Horton. Martin had only been to Sanford a handful of times.

His fateful walk to the convenience store for a bag of Skittles and an iced tea on the evening of February 26 happened only because the teenager pleaded to leave the apartment, said Horton.

"The only reason he got a chance to go to the store is because he begged his dad to go," he said. At the time, his father and his fiancée had gone out to dinner and to watch a basketball game, leaving Martin at the townhouse, according to Martin family spokesman Ryan Julison.

While walking to the store, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend, whom he had been talking to for over 6½ hours throughout the day, the family's attorney said, citing phone records. The girl, who did not want to be identified, said she told Martin to run, but he refused, the family attorney said.

What strikes me is the father made no mention of his son begging him to be allowed to go to the store in his interview with the NPAA. That would be crushing to a parent, if true. They would be guilt-ridden, thinking if only they had said no, he wouldn't have been out.

Instead, Tracy Martin says he was not very concerned about the whereabouts of his son until the next morning.

It strikes me as odd.

ABC article said they verified the last call with company before publishing. They gave the exact time of the call. It was in a written interview with the girl. Her parents did not want any information re her name etc given out.

ABC article said they verified the last call with company before publishing.

ABC (specifically Matt Gutman) claimed falsely that it had a recording of the conversation between Martin and the girlfriend. Check out the link from my previous posting.

“If he really was an innocent boy unnerved by a man following him in a truck, it would make a LOT of sense to leave the road and take to the shortcut”. . .AND call the police to report some lunatic following him.

“Trayvon’s father has lied before, first accurately telling the police the cries for help on the 911 tapes were NOT Trayvon and later (after meeting Rev. Al) telling the media and the lynch mob that it was “my son screaming for his life”.

The fathr smells money. Didn’t he just quit his job so he could get a cut of the profits from the Trayvon merchandise?

>>>They’ve been lying throughout. I bet there aren’t any phone records to back up this assertion. The guy claimed he had a recorded conversation. Then it turns out the conversation was one between the girlfriend recounting what she recalled and the “family” lawyer.<<<

On “The McLaughlin Group” Michelle Bernard, who is supposed to be a conservative, claimed to have heard the tape of Trayvon talking to his girlfriend. Of course, no such tape exists. When McLaughlin seemed unaware of the existence of the mythical tape, another panelist “confirmed” that there was such a tape.

She also referred to the cries of a “little boy” on the 911 tapes. First of all, it is pretty well established that it was GZ, not TM who was crying for help, but regardless of that, there was no “little boy” involved in the incident. There was a grown man and a 6’2”, 17 year old.

The whole thing is very confusing. So he was staying with his father and his father’s “girlfriend”? And the girlfriend he was talking with on the phone lived in Miami?

I find it hard to imagine that he was willing to do a 4-mile round trip on foot just to buy a bag of Skittles and some iced tea. (Reports said the convenience store was 2 miles away.)

I think he was probably just looking for the place he was staying - although it’s also certainly possible that he was up to no good, based on what we have heard about his past. But I don’t think in any case he should have been shot and it seems to me that there was negligence on the part of the HOA by letting an armed person patrol for them.

Martin probably did attack Zimmerman, because it sounds as if, like many kids from his background, he had a hair-trigger temper and also he could see that Zimmerman was going to be a pretty easy target (smaller, overweight, etc.). Zimmerman shouldn’t have been armed in that capacity, but he was and it was legal - and if Martin tried to grab his gun, Zimmerman was defending himself when he shot.

The problem is that Obama and the race-baiters don’t want a reasonable negligence settlement. They want nothing less that Zimmerman’s head on a platter.

I saw a Fla newspaper article when this story started, that quoted Trayvon’s father as saying that he called the police the next day after the shooting...to see if he had been arrested.

Suspended from school, a pipe and marijuana and stolen jewelry in his possession, a history of violence and now dad assumes the kid has been arrested. Yep, if I had another son, Trayvon would be him. NOT. Did you know he already has a wikipedia page, sigh...

Looking at the map, the nearest convenience stores are a mile or more across a major highway from the apartment complex. Seems like a long way to go just for Skittles especially if he was really grounded.

Around here the 7-11s are an area that no one would let a child visit alone. Too many pushers etc hang out in the parking lot.

That's even worse - too good to check comes to mind. Nobody remembers the second guy to introduce a major local news story to a national audience. Remember Dan Rather? Reporters have been looking for the second coming of Emmett Till for 50 years, along with what Tom Wolfe called the Great White Defendant.

Hmm, that matches with what others have said about "skittles" and "AZ ice tea" being street names for drugs. Has it been verified that he had candy and a drink on him? Or was he hiding drugs in his pants when Zimmerman was telling the police he had his hand in his waistband? Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Zimmerman shouldn’t have been armed in that capacity

He was running an errand, not on patrol. Besides, neighborhood watch people are looking for trouble, though in the sense of finding and reporting criminals rather than arresting them. If they run into criminals on the job, and the perps are armed or numerous, their lives could be in jeopardy. It would not make sense to have a neighborhood watch without weapons. I've read about neighborhood watches in Third World countries where gun control is pretty strict. They carry fighting sticks or batons in case of attack. The irony is that any neighborhood watch where weapons aren't needed is probably a superfluous neighborhood watch.
