'Relocating' children

It's 11AM. Do you know where your children are? Hundreds of Oklahoma kids carted away from school grounds without parental consent or knowledge.

Recently, there has been a disturbing nation-wide trend of parental rights being trampled upon by public school officials, from bag-lunch inspections to electronic bracelets being used to spy on overweight kids. This week brings another example of complete disregard for parental rights, this time from Grove High School in Delaware County, Oklahoma.
Grove High School transported 699 kids away from school property without first notifying parents of their intent to do so, nor obtaining the parents consent. Parents were only told, by way of this nondescript robo-call, that there would be a "drill":
"This call is to inform you that Grove Public Schools will be conducting an emergency exercise on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. The drill's purpose is to extend the school's preparedness in the event of a real emergency. Please be aware, this is only a drill. Thanks and have a good evening."

In the times we live in, I see a far more sinister purpose for this “emergency drill”.
This emergency drill is performed EVERY DAY when school lets out, and hundreds get on school busses to go home, without incident.
The lack of parental notification was deliberate, not an oversight.
If you want to keep a bunch of adults under control , the government can just separate you from your kids under some pretense, and then you will do what you are told.
The superintendent of this district should be fired. He created a huge insurance liabilty for the district, and it is a good thing there was not a vehicular or personal accident.He is just too stupid, or indoctrinated, to be given the charge of other people’s children.
The whole notion of this drill is specious at best.
I don’t have a problem with this so long as they are carting them and their parents back to their legal country.

It hurts, but we've decided that we cannot sacrifice our daughter on the "free" altar of the hateful, anti-American public schools. They are the greatest threat that we face to thew future of America.
Any Christian who doesn't either homeschool or send their child to a reputable Christian school is breaking God's commandment to "train up a child in the way he should go" - Proverbs 22:6.

The great fun about homeschooling, and the most powerful aspect of it, is that you get to learn as your children learn, and they reinforce their knowledge by teaching it to the younger ones. We basically have a one-room schoolhouse.
One of our homeschooled daughters is learning Chinese and teaching it to her younger siblings. As with all foreign language, if you have nobody to practice with, you will not learn. Conjugations and dictionary drills are meaningless without context. Virtually everybody in our house speaks or understands at least two languages, because we not only learn them at home but occasionally attend church services and social events where these languages are spoken almost exclusively. We have also hosted foreign students in our home.
As for the sciences, there are tutors, videos, books, so many resources. If you have a computer, and you must in order to be reading this, many experiments can be conducted with software simulations. However, it’s neither hard nor expensive to set up a basic chem lab and biology lab.
For shop, there are always things around the house or apartment that need repairs and remodeling. Woodworking, mechanics, plumbing, electrical, as well as sewing, baking, meals and nutrition, are all part of home and hearth.

The per-student cost in our school collective is about $20,000. Fully 85% of my exorbitant property tax is used to support this collective. Most of the children “graduate” as functionally illiterate and innumerate.
Our per-student cost is less than $1000, mostly books materials subscriptions and tutors, and I’ll be hanged if my capable children will “graduate” illiterate or innumerate.
Two of our nine children still at home are very special needs children, and we have a program for them that will encourage them to make something of themselves and be self-supporting.
Nobody will love your children like you do.
Nobody can reach your children like you can.
Nobody knows your children better than you.
Nobody can teach your children better than you.
The government school collective is filled with silly junk science and socialistic influences. The Education Colleges are mills of socialistic indoctrination.
The government school collective system is moribund and cannot be salvaged.

Not necessarily. A education degree (which is what most public school teachers have) doesn't necessiarly give you any degree of special expertise in any of those disiplines. Home schooled children consistently test and perform higher in all those subjects than public school students do.

I went to a public school. My daughter went to public school. I was the parent who some teachers absolutely loved and others would go ‘ugh’ about. I was involved. I was there. I made sure that education took place.
I agree that the current trends seem to be that public school is the place to deal with ‘social issues’. I would be looking for a top notch private school before home schooling. I am not against home schooling for I think parents do a good job ( for the most part) of educating their children. I merely note that laboratory facilities for chemostry lab and ohysics lab and higher level mathematics classes are usually beyond the perview of most parents.

I agree with you. However, one must weight the good and the bad.
My girls go to a class with “The Science Lady”. She is a real accredited teacher who offers classes out of her basement. Students from her classes have aced the ACTs.
They use Saxon (the 12-year-old is doing Algebra 2 and the 14-year-old is about to start “Advanced Math”), they are on their fourth year of Latin on Powerspeak and want to start Japanese next year. They take High School writing and liturature at a co-op.
The point is, for the 15,000 per student that Michigan pays to public schools, I educated my children well above their standards and for a fraction of the cost. AND socially, they don’t get the garbage in Public Schools.
The problem with the “there are lots of good public schools” is the fact that the education of a student in the USA falls FAR below “lots” of countries in the world and we spend more.
A Lutheran take on this issue: Parents are placed in the position of authority over their children. It is the parents job to educate the child. The parent may choose to place their child in a school or do it themselves. If they use a school, the parents are temporarily transfering that authority to the teachers.
A parent better be very sure of who those teachers are and what they will be teaching the child. The teachers are doing your job for you!
I agree!! If there was no issue, and this was a planned procedure, why not just let parents be completely notified? Why not OBTAIN PERMISSION?! Disturbing.
As a matter of fact, I do. She is lying in bed next to me under our warm electric blanket while we do her school work. We started the day with a beautiful prayer. In the cesspool world of government education I would do whatever it took to teach my kids this way.
Government schools = child abuse.

Your grandkids sound great, and you can be justifiably proud of them.
They sound pretty much like my 3 public school educated kids. 2 of whom are college graduates, good citizens, good careers, parents to be. 3rd still in college, doing fine.
They’ve turned out pretty well considering the fact that their father (me) engaged in decades of child abuse, at least according to you.
TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN. I pray to God that people will have ears to hear. Most are ‘in denial’ because it is so scary and so expensive to face. But it is worth it.
Search out a lifestyle that will get your children OUT of government school.

We’ve homeschooled both our kids, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. My oldest is about to graduate, never having set foot in a school.
In our computer age, to say that the existing school model is antiquated is an understatement.
Beyond reading, basic math, and religion, nothing else is essential to formal education. Schooling and education are not synonymous, and are often antithetical.
My sympathy lies with unschooling, but in a compromise with my wife, we settled on a pre-packaged Catholic curriculum.
Neither of my children are interested in science or math, but they jumped through the requisite hoops. IMO, they would have been better off pursuing something of interest to themselves.
But these decisions should be left to parents. And homeschooling gives parents greater freedom than any alternative.
Most importantly, parents and children are free to practice their religion as they see fit.

As a Christian who has been called to teach in a public school I find your post extremely offensive. If the Lord has led you to home school or to send your child to a private school, by all means do so. But just as Jesus rebuked Peter when he question what John’s call would be, you have no right to tell other Christians they must follow your call.
Whenever this subject comes up on FR I am reminded that there are still plenty of Pharisees around today.
