Spike Lee has apologized to a Florida couple who say they were forced to leave their home when a Twitter posting that the director helped spread listed their address as that of a man who shot an unarmed teenager.
Elaine and David McClain are in their 70s and say they have a son named William George Zimmerman who lived in their Sanford-area home in the mid-1990s. They say he is no relation to 28-year-old George Zimmerman who killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26.

But posting the RIGHT address is all fine and dandy...
Mighty white of him...
I’d think a good lawsuit is forthcoming again “Lee”. He was obviously way out of line, didn’t do his homework and caused great suffering and pain to the two elderly, very innocent people. His apology would look much better on a large check, payable to the Zimmerman family.
Didn’t he make a movie once? “Do The Wrong Thing” or something like that?
So is he truly sorry for the greif he caused the McClains? or did his PR flacks and/or attys put him up to it for damage control?
All he has to do is prove it was a mistake - and that he apologized. No jury’s going to convict with that combination.
Too late, Spike
A jury is going to be sending the sheriff to collect your forty acres. And your mule.
Now hand over all your stuff to your victims.
I hope that couple sues his derriere off, the vicious racist.
Lee tweeted, “I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was a Mistake. Please Leave The McClain’s [sic] in Peace.”
It’s worth noting ... the apology came a few hours after the McClains reportedly lawyered up. Heh.
The damage is done.
Tweeting the right address would have been just as bad, maybe worse.
Isn’t it against the law to solicit violence. Everything else is against the law.
Hope the old couple lawyer up and sue his racist butt.
A member of the 1% picking on someone in the 99%. Occupy Spike’s house!
I am sure he is now going to cover the cost of the hotel this poor couple had to flee to and their expenses while being forced to live outside their home. . .and any damages that might arise.
I am sure. . . .
There’s no sense in his apology that he didn’t think he should be tweeting anybody’s address in the first place.
“Cover the cost of the hotel”? No, Spike needs to cover the cost of purchasing a new home.
