The study found that people who frequently ate chocolate had a lower body mass index (BMI) than people who didn't.
The researchers found that the participants - who were an average age of 57 - ate chocolate for an average of twice of week and exercised roughly 3.5 times per week. But the more frequent chocolate-eaters had smaller BMIs, a ratio of height and weight that's used to measure obesity.
What explains the effect? Even though chocolate can be loaded with calories, it's full of antioxidants and other ingredients that may promote weight loss, the researchers said.

My personal theory is that people who eat chocolate satisfy their cravings with a small amount of chocolate, those who don't, eat other, higher calorie foods, while trying to deprive themselves of chocolate and end up eating more.
Anyway, that's my story too, and I'm sticking to it!
I’m going to drink a bottle of red wine, eat two Hershey’s bars, and live forever!
Now, THAT’s what I’m talkin’ about!!
You can only eat the bitter stuff to get the effects. I hate bittersweet and super dark chocolate. Really nasty stuff. Unless I use it in baking which means adding sugar. The sugar, of course, negates any benefits.
I LOVE this study!! :)
SHHHH!!! Don't tell me that!! ;)
The bitter stuff is my favorite.
I love 70% Dark Chocolate.
Guess I’m gonna be thin and healthy.
I love chocolate, but here’s what probably happens when you eat too much of it:

(WARNING: VERY large woman on the link)
And you should eat the good stuff — notimatation chocolate that has been diluted with all kinds of additives.
How does one go to the bathroom when they are that fat?
...and a hot fudge Sunday every day when I started working. I weigh the same as when I was 17...and I'm 68. I'm also fortunate to have good genes.
I promise if you develop a taste for the bitter super dark chocolate nothing else will take it’s place. Let it melt in your mouth and sip some water. Excellent. Don’t go for the high percentage stuff at first but you WILL work your way up to it.
Lucky you! I just can’t get that stuff down.
I’ve always tried to practice some moderation in my chocolate intake, but now, who cares? Chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner now!
"..bullssssssshiite"
What would be a low percentage? I’m near a wonderful gourmet shop. Maybe I could pick up some bars there. Do you have any favorite brands?
Dear Sacajaweau,
I hate you.
Sincerely,
Mangia ;)
Very carefully....
But she has a pretty face and a great personality!!
