After a day of spin from the White House didn’t tamp down outrage over Barack Obama’s sotto voce conversation with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, the President himself addressed the controversy. Earlier today, Obama insisted that nothing he told Medvedev was out of the ordinary, and that he wasn’t “hiding the ball” on missile defense:
A defensive President Obama said Tuesday he wasnt guilty of hiding the ball when an open microphone caught him pleading with the president of Russia to delay missile shield talks until after this years elections.
The only way I get this stuff done is If Im consulting with the Pentagon, with Congress, if Ive got bipartisan support and frankly, the current environment is not conducive to those kinds of thoughtful consultations, Mr. Obama told reporters at a nuclear security summit here. This is not a matter of hiding the ball. …
I dont think its any surprise that you cant start that a few months before presidential and congressional elections in the United States, and at a time when they just completed elections in Russia, and theyre in the process of a presidential transition where a new presidents going to be coming in, in a little less than two months, Mr. Obama said.
Er — riiight. Here is the transcript once again from the conversation:
President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but its important for him to give me space.
President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you
President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.
President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.
“After my election, I have more flexibility.” He’s not talking about Congressional elections. He’s trying to get “space” from Putin, through Medvedev, in order to get himself re-elected. And to get that space — in which Putin would presumably back off of his public comments on missile defense — Obama promised Russia “flexibility” on missile defense once he gets past “my last election,” and the last time voters can hold him accountable for his actions.
The White House continued to spin this as a demonstration of Obama’s commitment to nuclear disarmament and missile defense:
White House aides said the president was still “deeply invested” in the missile defense system.
Uh huh. Here was Obama’s “deep investment” in this 2008 video from his campaign, in which he promised to “end misguided defense policies,” and one of the first topics mentioned is … missile defense:
I will cut investments in unproven missile-defense systems.
So when was Obama “hiding the ball”? Then or now?
I’m with you, old fart. I, too, am happy it’s near the end for me.
I also wonder if by “last election” he means last election ever.
WHY IS THIS NOT TREASON?
But I am not going to go that far. THERE *ARE* differences between Obama and Romney

Maybe you need to go at least as far as listing any differences you feel there might be..
Barry has no love for America or loyalty to America
and nor has Willard...
This was Chicago politics. Nothing more. You give me space. IE: you leave me alone, don't raise a fuss, don't make me look bad, don't make me make any unpopular decisions , basically butter me up . . . help me get reelected, and AFTER I am reelected, i WILL take care of your wishes.
With Russia , no less.
Obama , more truthful to the motherland than the American people . The American people only tolerated until they reelect him. Had to return those Russian spies to the motherland, fast, before they ratted him out.
Wow, agreed! I think it’s bizarre and “cut off your nose to spite your face” to declare that you won’t vote for the R candidate (or, the ABO candidate) if it’s Romney. I think he’s horrible but compared to 0, is infinitely more preferable.
Thanks Army Air Corps,
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Good point! I wonder what he has said or promised to the leaders of our other enemies that was never picked up on an open mic?
Newt is my favorite, but having only won 2 states, he would be a weak candidate. The majority of America is to the left of both me and Newt.
Santorum is our Obama. Hei pretty, gives an impassioned speech, but is light on accomplishments. Empty suit.
At least I know Mitt can make money. He is way left of me in most regards, but at least he likes America as opposed to our current occupant.

You know, this trminfd mr og rumors after he was elected that the USSR/Russians knew something about a young black communist who would become POTUS. I think the story was posted on FR.
At least we agree that the Newster isn’t pretty! Dignified, but definitely not pretty.
LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE???
Oh, believe me, he’s still playing hide the salami. Think his current feller is Kal Penn, unless Michelle ran him off again.
Poor Wookie. No wonder Barry is so skinny....can you imagine that thing chasing The Golden Child around the bed every night for a little action, when all he wants is men?
Might help to explain that scowl on her face all the time.
Thanks for your sentiment.
Those who say there is not one whit of a difference between Romney and Obama will have to believe that Romney LIES 100% of the time. That for me is astonishing.
The main similarity between Romney and Obama is in his Romneycare.
As for the rest of Romney’s policy proposals, only those who are willfully blind or those who are so skeptical and cynical that they believe Romney is the spawn of the father of lies himself would believe that there is no difference at all. I am not THAT cynical yet.
Some differences:
Romney PROMISES to repeal Obamacare at the Federal level.
Romney PROMISES to sign an Executive Order granting ALL states waivers for Obamacare.
Romney promises to cut corporate taxes to 25% and cut taxes across the board by 20% for all levels.
Romney promises to abolish the death tax.
Romney promises to approve the Keystone Pipeline.
Romney promises to work with Paul Ryan to implement his budget.
Now, if those are not major differences with Obama, then I don’t know what is. You can hate him, but these POLICIES are there for all to see.
Only those who believe that he is going to LIE about all of the above will sit this election out and let Obama cruise.
I might be more of a careful to-see-is-to-believe type of voter. But I sure as heck will not sit this one out. I am not going to vote FOR Romney (if he is the alternative), but AGAINST Obama.
Romney. I think hes horrible but compared to 0, is infinitely more preferable.

How about spiting your own face ...
and tell us why ???
Romney will have to listen to his conservative base because, unlike Obama, he has nothing but himself to hide behind.

What Conservative base ???
Willard doesnt have a Conservative base...
and as for listening to us when he gets in the White house ???
he doesnt listen to us now...
Hide behind someone ???
Oh yes Willie Mitty will find someone to blame...
He always finds someone to blame...
