Santorum Pronounces Zimmerman Guilty Before Trial, or Charge
Big Government ^ | March 25, 2012 | Joel B. Pollak

Republican presidential contender Sen. Rick Santorum appeared on CBS' Face the Nation this morning and pronounced George Zimmerman guilty of murder in the first degree.

Admitting that he was "not privy to what’s going on in someone’s mind," Santorum nevertheless said that Zimmerman, who shot and killed teenager Trayvon Martin while participating in a neighborhood watch last month, "has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this." He added that Zimmerman's motive had been "malicious."

The mental state of the alleged perpetrator, the motive, and the question of whether he pursued the alleged victim, are both critical in determining guilt. Santorum's conclusions are consistent with first-degree murder under Florida law....

ONE more time, the difference between Mitt and Obama is like the difference between Trotsky and Stalin.

-- Firing his pistol in a residential zone. --

Is not an offense in justified self defense.

It is unlawful to knowingly discharge a firearm in any public place, or on the right of way of any paved public road, highway or street or over any road, highway, street or occupied building, except in defense of life or property, in performance of official duties or where expressly approved for hunting.

Either Zimmerman is justified in use of deadly force, or not. If not, he's guilty of manslaughter.

-> Newt also said that it was right to be taken to a grand jury.

In the context, if there was enough evidence to do so.

Newt never convicted Zimmerman of the crime. If he had, he would be finished. Ricky, gets Another pass! There was a report that Zimmerman likes to do the neighbor-hood watch as a hobby; giving him something to do (Newt says back-he had a dangerous hobby) Newt said at first everyone should let the investigation move forward so all of the facts could come out. Col. West in FLA was calling for the feds to investigate, not Newt. Newt has said let the local law enforcement people take control and go from what they will do. Newt is the one who called Obama out for playing the race card while Ricky was saying that Zimmerman was guilty before even being charged for a crime. Geez, it's clear as can be, he is not at a presidential level just for saying that.

I gather there's a crowd here getting their yuck yucks by citing the adventures of a far older Trayvon Martin

I sure hope you're wrong about that. I think it more likely that many folks here simply wonder about the way the story was initially portrayed.

There is no doubt that Zimmerman is a fool. It is foolish for any private citizen to, essentially, stalk someone. If anyone started following me around, yeah, I'd get antsy and a bit tense. (And, no, a "neighborhood watch" isn't anything magical or special.)

But is Zimmerman a murderer? It is possible that Zimmerman simply shot Martin without cause. But it is also possible that a frustrated Martin initiated a physical attack on Zimmerman.

There's no excuse to shoot someone just for walking through your neighborhood, gated or not. But there's also no excuse to beat on someone just because he's following you.

As Obama and Santorum should have said, this is a murky situation. We must wait until all the facts come out before branding either Zimmerman or Martin.

Zimmerman, from what I gather, did nothing illegal. But I suspect that if Zimmerman were killed instead, Martin should be able to claim self-defence, just like Zimmerman. It is creepy to be followed for no reason.

When the best the Republicans have to offer jumps the shark like this... we are screwed.

That's why I've completely withdrawn from any investment in the Republican primary. We're now nearly down to a two man race, after starting with a field of eight - six of which I would have voted for over either of these buffoons.

Still, I won't say that we're "screwed". If I did that, I might as well put a bullet in my head. I think that real America hasn't even begun to fight.

There is no other consequence for Santorum hate from anyone except to help Mitt and that's a natural fact.

Wrong. Some of us despise both of them.

>>he two would you prefer to win the nomination, Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney?
You won't answer, will you? You will dodge or spin it.

>> Mitt will then be your honest answer.

Neither, that is why I support an open contested convention to get another person.

I pray that you are right - but what will it take to get that "real America" to jump in the fight? Cause we need to figure it out, and SOON!

"So you want Mitt to win the nomination." and "I ask all Freepers who attack Rick: 'Who are you helping?..."

WHY do so many supporters of various candidates assume that pointing out/discussing problems their candidates have means a vile attack has occurred?

Every candidate has had their warts argued over and over here. A supporter who cannot acknowledge their candidate has warts deserves as much derision as the candidate, perhaps more so.

I had high hopes this election cycle would end with a bona-fide Republican conservative I could heartily support. Those hopes have vanished, I will vote third party for the third presidential election in a row.

But I will NOT stop pointing out warts when I see them....perhaps if enough do it also we may in time be blessed with a candidate our founders would at least consider for the job. I'm sure they would pass on the current crop.

Does he have the evidence to go on a national TV show to pronounce a man’s guilt. What is happening to our side.

It is scary. Very scary that we have conservatives ok with Santorum's statements. Any one of us could end up in a clusterf*ck, and to have the weight of the White House and/or White House candidates convicting us sans evidence is nothing but frightening.
