ARLINGTON -- Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday that the stand your ground self-defense law he signed while in office should not apply to the case of a teenager who was shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer in his home state.
This law does not apply to this particular circumstance, Bush said after an education panel discussion at the University of Texas at Arlington. Stand your ground means stand your ground. Its doesnt mean chase after somebody whos turned their back.
He was referring to reports that the 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin, was pursued by the volunteer and fatally shot in a scuffle.
Anytime an innocent life is taken it's a tragedy, Bush said. You've got to let the process work."

A responsible, mature statement like that would sure go a long way for the politician that made it.
But I’d like to hear one of these ‘hispanic voters are the key to victory’ GOPE pols turn on the race-pimping drivel FOR Zimmerman LOL!
“We must show the world that an Hispanic man is, at last, treated fairly by our justice system! That they are no longer second class citizens with less rights...”
The media’s heads would explode.
I saw Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America on Megan Kelly today. They were discussing this case. I think he said that THERE WERE WITNESSES who told police that Martin had initiated the fight, and that is why the police initially handled it the way the did.
Did anyone else see it? I came in on the last part of it, but that is the gist of his comments I think.
The mob doesn't have full knowledge, because the mob has been informed by the media. But the media had the information from the start.
-- Should this whole thing turn out to be a horrible situation gone bad, with no charging or conviction of Zimmerman, there will be riots that will make the Rodney King affair look like a Sunday school picnic. --
Assuming arguendo that Zimmerman had terminated his foot pursuit, and some moments later (say 30 to 90 seconds) was attacked, and getting a beating. That certainly fits "horrible situation gone bad." Do you think Zimmerman should be charged and convicted if he was the one attacked?
That didn’t keep Jeb Bush, Santourum and Gingrich from siding with the black kid.
My understanding is that he was on foot while on the line with 911, and said he was following a suspicious person. The dispatcher said "you don't have to do that," or something to that effect, and that "the police are on their way." My understanding is that at that moment, Zimmerman turned around and was returning to his truck. He'd given up "the chase."
-- It will be interesting to see how Zimmerman got the bloody head wound and he grass on his back. --
My understanding is that eyewitnesses other than Zimmerman have him taking a beating while he's on his back. Not sure how the back of his head got bloodied.
Now it makes sense. I had heard a 911 recording where one of them is screaming for help. it sounds terrible and I thought the kid had been shot. Well no. The tape continues and I’m thinking that poor kid is lying on the ground bleeding to death....and then, then I hear a gun shot and I think “Weird. Doesn’t sound right”.
Now it makes sense. Zimmerman was yelling for help, maybe as he was being assaulted and then took his only reasonable choice to end the threat.
We’ll have to see how this unfolds.
Of course if this how the police saw it as well then I now understand why he wasn’t charged on the 1st place.
FWIW, IMHO, I think this is or at least should be, less controversial than when Joe Horn shot those two burglars in Pasadena Texas.
Black Pampers tried a protest in that neighborhood and got run out on a rail.
I am having a hard time visualizing Zimmerman initially assaulting big kid Martin. There is no evidence that he flourished Martin, (I bet G/F would have heard that) and being on your back with two bleeding wounds on your cabeza is a bad spot to be.
I know what I would have done.
Is there a full account of what happened somewhere?
Thanks.
So if someone chased you in the middle of the night, what would you assume? That he was going to assault you is the correct answer if you have half a brain. It just so happens the person who was chasing got the shit kicked out of him by someone who did nothing wrong. Then the rent-a-cop decided he will shoot in “self-defence”.
He deserves blame, it can be argued that it was self defence, however he directly created the situation where he required the self defence so some of the blame for the outcome should be placed on him.
Zimmerman is just an idiot.
I would assume that I was about to be attacked and adopt a DEFENSIVE posture. I would not jump the guy, knock him to the ground and start beating on him till he is screaming for help.
I also would not be out of school on a 5 day suspension.
And secondly, there are NO witnesses that are asserting that Zimmerman chased Trayvon. Followed him yes, but chased him - no. What witnesses we do have DO say that Trayvon was beating on Zimmerman who was on the ground.
Actually, there is a community footpath that runs behind the houses and Martin, as a guest of a resident of the complex, had every right to be there.
Why did Zimmerman leave his vehicle and follow Martin along the pathway to 2831 Retreat View Circle?
Choose 'title' up top and try these keywords:
'Martin'
'Zimmerman'
'race war pimping festering scabs on society's ass'
I agree. The MSM will be responsible. They will never admit it but they will have blood on their hands. If the guy is guilty so be it. But, to try the case in the MSM as has been done is stupid. And the bring in the Stand Your Ground Law as a cause is pure ideological Politics in the Raw.
“Why did Zimmerman leave his vehicle and follow Martin along the pathway to 2831 Retreat View Circle? “
According to Martin’s girlfriend, to ask him “What are you doing here?”
I’m amazed that that is considered instigation.
In fact, I don’t think anyone does consider it so.
Everyone is assuming that what happened next- the fight- was started by whomever they feel should be held to blame.
Clear thinking, the enemy of the media and it’s advertisers...
Ok, the path might clarify some things. Thank you. Where they struggled was definitely off the path, due to the grass stains on Zimmerman’s shirt.
But if the girlfriend states that Martin admitted to “losing the guy”, and thus was trying to evade Zimmerman. This is not neighborly or even good visitor activity. It is highly indication of criminal activity and should arouse EVERYONES suspicion.
Zimmerman, like any other concerned citizen is under no legal obligation not to look and reacquire Martin to determine his intent the best he can.
Zimmerman said on the 911 call during their initial encounter Martin started walking toward him then turned and ran. Whatever may be said of Zimmerman, it is just a plausible that he is not one of those people that believe the police have the ultimate responsibility to protect people and property. Rather, it’s the individual citizens duty to do so.

True. Good point.
