McCain decries GOP fight against Obama mandate: ‘we need to get off that issue’

March 22, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain has criticized his party for waging a “war on women” based on their reaction to the Obama administration’s mandate that will force religious institutions to pay for contraception, abortifacient drugs and sterilization.

In response to a question from Meet the Press moderator David Gregory , who asked if there was “something of a war on women among Republicans” during an interview Sunday, the Arizona senator said “we have to fix that.”

“I think that there is a perception out there because of how this whole contraception issue played out — ah, we need to get off of that issue, in my view,” said McCain. “I think we ought to respect the right of women to make choices in their lives and make that clear, and get back onto what the American people really care about.”

McCain gave the remarks weeks after backing an amendment offered by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) that would have restored to employers the right to opt out of paying for employees’ birth control, a measure that was voted down.

However, McCain has welcomed the fact that a measure in his home state to allow employers to decline to cover contraceptive pills not used for medical reasons will likely be voted down. The bill stalled in the state Senate this week, but supporters say they will try to address the medical privacy concerns that have been voiced by McCain and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer.

GOP leaders in both the U.S. Senate and the House have vowed to fight the mandate that has sparked a firestorm of grassroots opposition in Catholic and Christian churches across the U.S. Protests in at least 129 U.S. cities are planned for Friday against the mandate, which has also earned condemnation from every bishop heading a Catholic diocese in the U.S.

“If the state is allowed to violate the religious rights of one religion, then surely it can violate those of others,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell last month of the mandate. “If the rights of some are not protected, the rights of all are in danger.”

no, no, no, no....He needs to speak, therefore we get this good stuff from the participants here...

Then is there are any Arizona FReepers out there, then take a link to this thread and send it to his office as a legitimate, credible, concerned constituent!!!

Demand an answer to this posistion he holds...

Remember the biggest liberal/progressive/socialist (Obama) just announced (recently in Oklahoma) he is taking credit for moving the “southern part” of the Keystone pipeline project forward!!!

That was after 78% of the people polled said he needs to!!!

Seems to me a very effective trend in politics these days...

Ehhhh, its just my opinion...

Ok, yes that is a good component of an argument. My point is to make additional and stronger arguments and place the opposition on defense. To defend rather than attack is to be weak

In thinking about McCain’s behavior over the years, one wonders where his heart truly lies. Whatever McCain was or might have been prior to his stay in Hanoi apparently was lost. He makes me wonder what it was replaced with and what he gets for that trade.

I think Juan McCain and Jim’ma Carter should both be rounded up and sent to the Island of Worthless Airbag Politicians.

Good idea as long as they take both Clintons with them.

Thanks.

And part of being on the attack is that the Church, Catholic and Evangelical, must publicly EXCOMMUNICATE any and all members who publicly vote against or teach against or ridicule the Church’s teachings in these matters.

Why is communion still being dispensed to the likes of the Pelosis, the Kennedys, the Bidens, the Carters, and countless other very visible politicians and entertainers professing to be Christian or Catholic?

These people have embarrassed Christ with their publicly and openly flaunting of their rejection of Biblical teachings about murdering gestate babies, sodomite behavior, stealing in the name of “charity”, replacing God with the State, and countless other clear violations of Biblical teachings and Church traditions.

What a disaster McCain is. He would have been almost as bad as Obama in the White House because he would have pushed socialism at a gentler pace and no one would have noticed our steady march into totalitarianism and away from freedom.

I am no fan of Sen. McCain, but certainly the liberal women in my area have been stimulated from apathy to active, righteous indignation over the issue.

If it comes down to it and a vote on the repeal of obamacare makes it to the senate McStain will vote to keep it.

My wife hates this man the way God hates sin and voted for him 08 only because of Palin on the ticket. This time around she says obama reelection or not she not voting for another damned liberal on the Republican ticket, claims McStain was going to be her last attempt at putting up with the brand of political running diarrhea the GOP pedals.
