Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.
Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.
"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

First off, he didn't say that. Read the full quote. He said that if voters are given a choice between a phoney moderate squish and a real Leftist, they will pic the real thing. As for what Romney may or may not do as POTUS, how does anyone know? It is very obvious that he has NO interest in championing Conservatism. Just look at the disdain he has for us in this campaign. He can't even bring himself to talk the talk with any sincerity.
Glad someone else gets it.
Oh I wasn’t referring to anything to do with thinking.
I was just referring to the only two candidates that are left standing now that Santorum ticked off a significant number of people that support him.
backstabbing friend.
It is possible that Romney will be as bad as Obama, but I see no chance that he'll be worse, and a pretty good chance that he'll be at least somewhat better. At the minimum, he'll be much better on SCOTUS picks, and with the Court split 5-4, that is a critical issue moving forward.
I don’t resemble that remark any more than Romney resembles a conservative.
In the big picture. There is no way the incubus Obama, the succubus named Valerie Jarrett and their merry band of communist czars can have another 4 yrs to run amok.
Ugh, so it’s the hair or the ears...
Good to see, someone else gets it.
I agree.
He’s making the same point that people here have been making. You can’t just say, “I’m not Barak Obama” You have to give people a clear alternative to his ideology.
You have to give people a reason to vote for you. Romney’s negative ads alone won’t be enough in the general election, when Obama can outspend him 2 to 1.
Only if 0bama cancels the election.
Even Santorum said I was a better Candidate than Mittens it wont matter the reason. It is about betting the Rep candidate so bad that it depresses the turnout and threatens the down ticket votes.
Santorum has just handed Obammy a freebie.

Well this person of the "you people" you talk about, has always said, some of us will have the honor of fighting against Obama with our chosen candidate, and others will only have the honor of fighting against Obama to help save our country.
I don't know what YOU talk about in private, but You need to get a grip, stop assigning motives to people you don't know or even know about. And prepare yourself to support the nominee, whoever it is. Do you ever speak to a Newt supporter in anything but derisive and disrespectful terms? don't talk to me that way again.
santorum is right, but he shouldn’t have said it while campaigning to be president. I rather a known enemy than a false friend
Please.
It's over, Ricky.
Sounds like he (or some staffer) has been browsing the FR forums. There's been a LOT of that posted all over this place lately.
“As long as there was any chance that anyone but Romney could possibly go up against Obama, I supported anyone but Romney. But anything, even Romney, is better than Obama in my opinion. I dont know how anyone could let Obama win by not voting for the Republican nominee. I mean, I hate Romney, but Romney did go through the process and he is going to be the nominee. The alternative is much, much worse. And Conservatives that can let Obama waltz back into the White House, I almost understand them, but I cant really understand them.”
I agree completely. Santorum is unhinged. He needs to get out, and take Newt with him. At this point, they’re simply weakening Romney and, much as I dislike HIM, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE OBAMA WIN. **THAT** would be catastrophic. Whatever else he is or isn’t, I don’t think Romney is out to destroy the country the way Obama is, and there’s some hope the right can push him into line. Certainly, whoever he would nominate for the Supreme Court would be better than whatever gutter-dwelling loser Obama might come up with.
At a certain point, you have to just say.. “Okay. The elites won. What do I do NOW...?!” and the right answer is “do whatever you CAN to defeat that disaster of a President who’s in office right now.”
What if the "New Reality" that Mitt molds himself too is that we are living in a European style Socialism? That should really turn things around. BTW, what evidence do you have that Romney even has an inkling of the problems facing the country? Even GOPe supporters of him say openly that he is just uncomfortably mouthing things he thinks Conservative want to hear because he is "he came late to Conservatism in his life".
Santorum’s jumped the shark.
