TOULOUSE, France (AP) - Three explosions were heard near an apartment building in southwest France where a suspected gunman who boasted of shooting seven victims in an al-Qaida-linked terror spree is holed up.
Orange flashes lit up the night sky with each blast near the Toulouse apartment building where police have been surrounding 24-year-old suspect, Mohamed Merah, since a pre-dawn effort to arrest him went awry.

Cancer of society.
No Right Wing Extremist? No apologies for the accusations?

Right wing militants setting off pipe bombs, probably /s
Alex, I will by a tank for $100.
Blow up the apartment building. Build a new in in it’s place.
I was wondering earlier - How hard would it be for this guy to set up an ambush? Run to a predetermined building, get surrounded and then have his brothers-in-arms launch an attack from behind while the police are concentrating on what’s in front of them.
Not that this is what’s happening. Just wondered if things like this were considered when surrounding this ROP follower.
A tidbit of this story I find very interesting is that Slick Barry Obungo appears to have directed the US Military to immediately hand over foreign nationals in Afghanistan. One report I read said the Afghans tried to turn this perp over to the US and they sent him directly to the French. Apparently the kenyan feels no need to investigate or get intel anymore in Afganistan.
It’s an apartment complex, isn’t it? Are the other residents there soundly asleep or watching late night TV religious and sellathon programs?
Never let a crises go to waste, even if it means getting off a false accusation or two. Who knows - you may even succeed in suckering a few people.
GIGN are no fools. I suspect the 20 hour "stand off" today was spent securing the surrounding buildings/terrain.
Can you link the flight to France to a year. I didn’t see that in the story?
The French Appeasement Force want him alive, no matter how many non-Muzzies have to die.
A French national of Algerian origin, he had been under surveillance by French intelligence for a couple of years, having "already committed certain infractions, some with violence," Gueant told CNN affiliate BFM-TV. Merah has spent considerable time in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Gueant said. Merah was sent back from Afghanistan to France by the U.S. Army, Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said in Toulouse Wednesday. He said Afghan police had checked Merah's identification during a traffic stop, and as a result he was handed over to the U.S. Army, which then put him on board the first plane heading to France. But a senior U.S. military official gave a different version from the French prosecutor about what happened to the suspect in Afghanistan. The senior U.S. military official told the CNN contributor Fran Townsend that the French shooting suspect was stopped by Afghan forces who tried to turn him over to the U.S. military. The U.S. directed them to hand Merah to French forces since he was a citizen of their country. He was given over the French military by the Afghans and the French military decided to return him to France, according to the source.Security Blogs CNN.com
