Even in an open convention, Gingrich wouldn't have a prayer of getting the nomination. But that seems to matter less to him than blowing up Mitt Romney.
Gingrich no longer says he can capture the 1,144 delegates required to wrap up the Republican nomination. Instead, he now speaks frankly about a new plan: Keep Romney from getting to 1,144 by the end of the GOP primary season in June, and then start what Gingrich calls a "conversation" about who should be the Republican nominee. That conversation, the plan goes, would lead to a brokered GOP convention at which Gingrich would emerge as the eventual nominee.
"Our goal first is to keep Romney well below 1,000," Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond said an hour before Gingrich addressed a small crowd of disappointed supporters gathered at the Wynfrey Hotel. "It doesn't have to be 1,000, or 1,050 -- it has to be below 1,100." If Gingrich succeeds, Hammond continued, "This will be the first time in our party in modern politics that we're going to go to the convention floor."

My mileage may vary. Have a great day FRiend.
Rick Moran is wrong, he speaks like a Moron.
The best thing that could happen to the country is a Republican brokered convention. Even if the 6th place guy wins the nomination, it will give the American voters a chance to actually hear each and every candidate and thus keep the talk about how wrong Obama is for the country.
I see a brokered convention firing up the GOP voter base like it has never been fired up before, even if none of the ones running right now takes the nomination.
GO SARAH!
Every RINO needs a conservative running mate on the ticket to excite the base and every conservative needs a RINO to bring in the GOP establishment's money and organization. That's how it has been in every election since World War II and that's how it will continue to be.
The sole exception was 1964, a disaster year for the GOP. 1952 and 1956 had two RINOs on the ticket, but Nixon was perceived as a conservative at the time. Ditto for 1976 with Bob Dole.
OTOH, The Fox Business channel went dramatically left and eliminated both Andrew Napolitano's and Eric Bolling's evening shows replacing them with Gerri Willis. Without question, Fox's move left since about Beck's departure is occasioned by Rupert Murdoch-controlled News Corp's scandal dealing with bribing officials in the U.K. People are going to jail including, perhaps, Rupert's son and heir apparent, James Murdoch. (Even though the activity went on in London, as an American company, News Corp. is subject to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, a catchall off the shelf hammer which prohibits such activity.)
For the time being, Holder owns Murdoch and since Murdoch/News Corp. owns Fox, Holder owns Fox. Wish a could bring you happier news.
You must be in Georgia. Because the rest of the nation clearly prefers Santorum. Have you seen how popular Gingrich is with Women? Do you really want a repeat of Obama vs the Old Guy?
come on down we always need good conservatives here where your votes count and we have more freedom.
Imagine if every good conservative, the good ones mind not those who call themselves republicans but then have no problem with homo marriage or the agenda because they know a couple but good decent conservatives.
Up north there has to be at least 3 million good conservatives, now imagine those 3 million moving south to VA, FL, NC,
Those states would become permanently conservative plus those states would get more electoral counts while those liberal northern states would lose their electoral count and tax money.
Then imagine there has to be at least 3 million good conservatives in CA, now imagine those 3 million moving out to AZ, NM, CO, thus those states now becoming solidly conservative and gaining electorally and tax money.
The Dems would never win an election again as we would have CO, NM, FL, VA, NC, AZ and not only republican they would be but conservative with electing good conservatives into congress
Figless Newton’s wife Calista won’t let him drop out. Plus he has more books to sell. The Potomacized loser is a charlatan.
...wow, drinking much LamestreamMedia Koolaid lately, sounds like gallons... did you read at the top of the page that this is a “conservative” website? And that’s the best you can say about the conservative entrusted by Ron Reagan with the movement torch for Conservatives? Go check in with the MainStreetCoalition or some other RINO group where you would be welcomed with your ignorant rants...

AGREED. The south was destroyed, and it rose from its ashes bigger and better than ever, because of Sanity, common sense and just plain old self reliance and the sweat of the brow.
There is nothing better than the Southern way of life, nothing.
What do we have to loose by going to convention that isn’t already on the line? Newt needs to stay and so does Santorum....otherwise we will end up with Romney.
Santorum cannot stand one to one against Romney and win. I know he thinks so, and his supporters do. But those who are closest to understanding and knowing both these candidates and elections say he cannot, as well with what will come against him he won’t be able to handle it....it’s not just Romney Santorum would go up against, it’s the machinery behind Romney, and that comes from all directions including internationally, who will with certainty take Santorum down if he’s left standing alone in this primary. Newt has to remain in this.
Nobody can say how a convention would go anymore than with certainty know how this primary will end. It’s already Historical in how it’s playing out, and remember Newt said right from the beginning in his speeches this Primary election would not be the traditional.
We really can’t loose anymore than what’s already there to loose by going to convention.....
Republicans better be careful what they wish for. A brokered convention might bring the low class Chris Christie or worse.
Newt needs to learn to win on his own and stop with playing games about the convention. He is not working hard enough to win so it appears anyway. Which is not fair to all of us that have sent him support. He is my last choice the bottom of the bucket choice if he can't pull this off God help us all.
Too bad people were so stupid about Rick Perry, he was the absolute best.
“There is nothing better than the Southern way of life, nothing.”
But didn’t you see the segment by Bill Mahr and Nancy Piglosi demon spawn. We’re all toothless retards down here.
He is a historian and he wants to become a part of history, even if it cant be via a presidential term.
Bingo.
But we still could get Romney. In fact, we will get Romney unless he drops out, it’s almost certain, because of the winner take all states. Romney either gets his delegates or is only a mite shy at convention.
The way to give Santorum the best chance at winning is for Gingrich to drop out now.
Gingrich is hurting us because it might help himself. This is the kind of decision making he is known for, and why I didn’t support him for president. Just like no one did on FR when he announced.
I know a fellow from Calif. who previously lived in New England...so he knows both coasts well.
His job took him to the Carolina's and other southern states and he was floored the difference in how people were and the entire business climate. He fell in love with the South....now making plans to move there.
exactly
the workers of FOX seem to think they now live in NY City and think they’re better than all of us down here in the south and the midwest.
Prime example, Megyn Kelly, what an airhead bimbo she has become since she got her show and seeing as I have stopped watching her I;m guessing she still talks about her personal life, like her house under water in VA, or what her husband is doing or what Nana is like.
The likes of those people go to their elitist cocktail parties , meet cross dressers, homosexuals, etc and then tell each other how smart they are.
I know because I dated a woman who lives in Chappaqua, Westchester county and boy do her and her pals love themselves.
They always make fun of the south, southerners, midwest, rural folk etc .
Then in the next sentence they talking about the bigots, racism , of course down south but you watch these people if they go into a working class section and a group of blacks walk towards them.
They cross over or have stories for their next party how they thought they were going to be mugged or robbed.
All of those whilst not seeing that they are bigoted towards Christians, Southerners etc, course never say a bad word about Jews or Muslims as that is diversity.
What cracks me up is that actually believe their own crap and what they’re told.
One woman in a conversation up north once said white trash to me when we were taking about the south and how she had quickly drove through to get to south FL.
I asked her if I said black trash would that be considered racist in her view.
She stood there, swilled her glass , looked at me and quietly said” you have a point”
I’ll live with good ole boys and gals, rednecks etc than that snotty nosed elitist jumped up fake, no it all pansies anytime, even if I had a few billion just give me some land, and a log cabin in the middle with a horse stable so my family and I can live in peace and have friends over.
Sarah and Col Allen West for the ticket and to save the day, if it means third party then so be it but it wont because the establishment will try and strike a deal in order to not lose their own power and money
Sarah and COL Allen West
A new Louisiana poll has Santorum with a small lead over Romney, and with Newt a strong third.
well said.
I think we have two likely outcomes: (1) Romney wins on the first ballot, (2) Romney is the choice of a brokered convention, with last minute support from Paul. But Rand Paul won’t be the V.P. candidate. McC can veto that.
Jeb Bush won’t support Newt because Newt bucked Bush 41 on tax hikes
