Newt Gingrich-Brilliant Strategy -- Stay In Race and Eventually Win Nomination
March 14, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell

Posted on 03/14/2012 6:08:00 AM PDT by mitchell001

Newt Gingrich has crafted a reasonable comeback strategy considering his predicament and his goals for the country. Here are the cards that Newt has. He has built a tremendous and growing volunteer network. He has the ability to frame the most important issues facing the government. Notice that the media loves to schedule and interview Newt. Also, President Obama and Jay Carney are replying to Newt Gingrich's $2.50 per gallon and oil drilling proposals. As Newt stays in the race, Romney has to spend money on negative ads to attack and bring down both Santorum and Gingrich. If Newt stays in Romney has little chance to garner greater than 30 percent of delegates in each primary. If Newt drops out, there is a greater chance that Romney will knock out Santorum and win. Now, if Romney does not get enough votes to clinch the nomination, there is a chance that Newt's stature will continue to rise, and he will continue to showcase his skills, plans and abilities and will appear more presidential and electable than Santorum. Newt's delegate count may approach or pass Santorum's delegate count. This is the 60 day discussion that will begin at the end of June at the end of the primaries. At that time, Gingrich and Santorum may agree to a joint ticket with one or the other at the top of the ticket. Newt owes this strategy to his large volunteer network and to the country. As time goes forward, more and more Americans will want Newt Gingrich on the National Ticket so we citizens can benefit from his experience, ideas, plans, reforms and doable goals for the country that we love.

A win for NEWT, 1/3 of the delegates. Rick can have the bragging rights.

Exactly, it was the Dems, who are Obama voters, crossing over to mess up the GOP primary. There are no “Reagan Democrats” or “Conservative Democrats” left. They are doing what they did in Michigan and this time it worked.

I think this is because the “conservative base” is much less conservative than we thought it was.

Are you kidding? We just got the conservative candidate that is the most conservative on social issues and second on fiscal conservative. Just because Santorum is not as fiscally conservative as Newt does not mean that the conservative base is less conservative. We have NEVER been able to get a 100 percent social conservative as our nominee. So if we can get a 100 percent social conservative and a 90 percent fiscal conservative, that is much better than Ford, McCain, Dole, Bush I and maybe even Bush II. This is a miracle in process and I could not be more thrilled. This is history in the making.

When I read your title, I was going to skip this thinking it was going to be a hit piece, but I agree with you.

After a few months of his campaigning, I can't stand Romney. Santorum is a decent guy, but he's a political lightweight compared to the rest, especially to what's waiting for him should he win the primary.

When it comes to government reform and taking on the PTB in DC, Gingrich is by far the most capable of the field. Given what we face here and in the world, now is not the time to settle for less than the best.

Thank you, I agree. The convention will be very interesting, and WE will come out a winner, NOT ROMNEY.

>> In the end: Newt voters will turn to SANTORUM. <<

Well, certainly not “all” — but probably 80 or 90%

>> In the end: Santorum voters will turn to NEWT. <<

Disagree. I say ca. 60% would go to Newt, ca. 40% to Romney.

If I’m correct, then Newt’s dropping out would assure a Santo win.

But if Santo should drop out, then it becomes a tight race between Gingrich and Romney — in which case the Romney money machine will again carpet-bomb Newt “back to the stone age.”

I find that Santorum doesn’t go after obama much.

Yuk. I can’t talk about other Santorum supporters, but this Santorum supporter would go immediately to Newt if he were to win the nomination or if Santorum dropped out for some reason.

Santorum is Roman Catholic. His Faith is not Bible-centered alone but traditional also. He seems to me to be the most orthodox Catholic ever to have run for President.

Brilliant, he’s just pacing himself and could win any race at any time. He’s a kicker.

“Newt loathes Mitt.”

After watching Newt’s interview last night on Fox it is clear that Newt hates, loathes and despises Romney with every ounce of his being. Newt knows he has no shot at the nomination at this point. He wants the satisfaction of bringing Romney down and bringing him down hard.

From this point on I would not discount the chances of Newt taking on the role of Santorum’s attack dog against Romney. That said, I am not sure Newt’s strategy is the best one to achieve the result he is after.

I would prefer a Newt nomination but that is not going to happen. Santorum will have to do. I just hope Newt and Santorum adopt some kind of joint strategy to keep Romney from being the nominee.

"He has single-handedly decreased Obama’s poll numbers via his $2.50/gallon energy plan, and put Obama on the defensive. Has either Romney or Santorum been able to do that?"

Absolutely not. Romney has bascially come out to say that Gingrich doesn't know what he's talking about. And Santorum is simply beginning to parrot all of Newt's talking points on the energy issues.

Newt is getting in everyone's head... even Santorum's.

Lost by getting more delegates ... what a strange notion...

Proportional states mean winning a state by 3% is meaningless. This isn’t 2008 ... Samoa and the off-brand places ADD UP... it’s time to compete in every state, not just break even in the south.

Sure. You and lotsa others. But if you think ALL Evangelicals and so-cons are going to ignore Newt's history of personal immorality and other aspects of his unstable character, then I gotta respectfully suggest that you're out of touch with a big swath of middle America.

What you have all done is create a non existent Newt. People haven’t cheered him at a debate since the first few debates.

That was a one trick wonder.

Newt is an established DC politician who can’t hide from his past or his recent past. Somehow you have told yourself that he can just say he is sorry and it is all going away.

Well, it hasn’t. And is was quite clear on FR months, years ago, that Newt was not all that favored because of his trek left ward in more recent years.

Was Newt, the brilliant Newt, duped into supporting global warming, writing books about it, posing with Pelosi, cap & trade? Oh really, the smartest guy on the planet was duped?

Or is it because he thought it was inevitable and was maybe planning on investing in carbon trading? This assumption, at least, shows he wasn’t able to be duped.

Did Newt not know that Fannie and Freddie was a disaster, yet he took money from them?

Wasn’t that Newt vigorously denouncing Reagan on the House floor?

Did the smartest guy around get duped into that foolish capitalism (at least that was how it was perceived) attack that hurt himself and helped Romney?

Newt may be smart, but he never wastes a minute reminding everyone how smart he is. Big mistake on his part.

His negatives are his personality. He comes off as an authoritarian who thinks he knows best. He brags and says things people want to hear, but they doubt his sincerity because Newt can change course in the blink of an eye.

Sorry, that is the way I see it.
