In 1965, Gerry Goffin and Carole King made the charts only once, and it was in partnership with Phil Spector for the Righteous Brothers. This was an attempt to recapture the magic of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling”, and although it got to #9 on the charts, it didn’t quite work.

Righteous Brothers: “Just Once in My Life”

I remember the trading posts to be authentic, still have some beaded stuff. Some areas of the Hopi res had elec & some refused it. It was fascinating at the time to see how they lived.

Some places were "off limits".

Now, that’s a very delicate project. I can see
where it would be stressful .. had to be perfect.
I assume it turned out beautifully. Do you both
sew? I need to attack my huge stash. I’m an
incurable fabriholic ..and it’s terminal .. LOL.

The Animals had a harder-edged sound that one would associate with a Gerry Goffin and Carole King tune, but that meant that this 1966 song should have been a breakthrough for the duo. If only! Although it charted, it should be viewed as an honorable failure. The times, they were a-changing.

The Animals: “Don’t Bring Me Down”

There is one other recording of this song, and it’s better than the original:

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers in 1986

She made me make all the decisions about where to cut.

We recovered yards and yards of lace and then reapplied it to the blusher.

She did the hand sewing..Put the beading on it.

My stash is huge too and I haven’t frolicked in it in a while.

The cold season stuff.. kale, cabbage and broccoli practically exploded out of the seeds.

They were popped out and sprouting in 48 hrs.

In 1966, Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote a song that Dusty Springfield failed with. But a lot of other people recorded it over the years.

Dusty Springfield: “Goin’ Back”

Some others who recorded this song:

The Byrds in 1968

Carole King in 1970

Nils Lofgren in 1975 (A different take on the song.)

That is just amazing! I hope you have a very successful garden this year!

We still don’t have a greenhouse of any kind. I really need to get serious about getting The Master Gardener one...he would love it.

Hey, I’ve been to the Shady Dell several times! There’s a great little 50s diner there that’s worth the trip in the Time Machine.

Donny Kirshner had to make a living, and with changing musical tastes, he turned to an audience that was too young to smoke pot – or so he thought! – and launched his move into bubble gum. Jeff Barry soon followed, teaming with Andy Kim. Kirshner turned to Gerry Goffin and Carole King to provide his group, the Monkees, with a hit in 1967. It was the duo’s attempt to be relevant with respect to lyrics, while still working within a bubble gum framework.

The Monkees: “Pleasant Valley Sunday”
