Newt Gingrich is canceling campaign events scheduled for Kansas at the end of the week to shore up support in the Deep South. The former House speaker plans to pour his time and resources into Alabama and Mississippi.
Everything between Spartanburg all the way to Texas, those all need to go for Gingrich, said campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond.
The candidates bus, his rallies and campaign events will be trained on a southern strategy...
Campaign aides also brushed off suggestions by supporters of Rick Santorum that Gingrich drop out...
All of the logic being used by the Santorum campaign is simply reversed and it could be used on Rick Santorum, Hammond said. Well argue, Santorum is splitting Mitt Romneys moderate vote.
The GOP primary will go on for many more months, Hammond said. Well stick in the race.
In a radio interview Wednesday morning, Gingrich himself made clear that he has no plans to get out of the Republican primary, allowing Santorum to face Romney in a head-to-head match up.
If I thought he was a slam dunk to beat Romney and to beat Obama, I would really consider getting out. I dont, Gingrich said on Bill Bennetts Morning in America radio show Wednesday. I think each of the three candidates has strengths and weaknesses and that this is a very healthy vetting process.
Gingrich described himself as a tortoise moving slowly but steadily toward the nomination as he hailed his victory in Georgia on Super Tuesday.
Gingrich was greeted in Montgomery by an enthusiastic crowd in the downtown Renaissance Hotel, where a banner hung reading Promise of a Newt Day. ...
Gingrich looks at the Republican strongholds of Alabama and Mississippi as Gingrich country places where you can sniff out what a conservative is, Hammond said.

We’d be better off if he devoted resources to endorsing Rick. I like both, and I was prepared to support either. I was prepared to suggest whichever one was trailing after Super Tuesday drop out.
Unfortunately for Newt, he’s the guy. Its time to get out of the way.

He knows Kansas is Ricks and figures why waste resources. Alabama will go for Newt, but Mississippi is something I am wondering about. I think Rick may take Mississippi. Anyone else have an opinion?
I WILL BE VOTING FOR NEWT!

This race can change and after Romney starts going after RS BIG time as he has Newt..Newt's numbers will go up. Heard Rick Perry say that he is looking towards Texas. Perry is working hard for Newt there as is Chuck Norris. I am amazed at the people on various sites I have written to that are totally unaward of Santorum's voting record..unbelievable! Hang tough NEWT!
If the good people of Alabama and Mississippi look beyond the past personal lives of the candidates and vote their economic interests they will overwhemingly support former Speaker Gingrich.
LLS
Well, if Newt wins Mississippi and Alabama then Romney will have to concede. lol.
Excuse me..but Gingrich has 105 bound delegates to Santorum’s 78. Santorum only has 2% more of the popular vote..no way in HELL should Newt get out!
None of them are going to get out because they have data that tells them not to... and the truth is... it is not over.

Where is “here?”
If Rick could beat Newt in the arena of conservative ideas- I would agree-
But, Rick is leading because (1) he went negative on Newt; (2) he personally lobbied Newt’s co-chair in tenn to abandon Newt; and (3) his lead over Newt is predicated on the circumstance that Newt got divorced—
To me, that does not a President make.
Rick wants my vote? Easy. Instead, of begging Newt to drop, challenge Newt one on one to a debate on ideas and the course of America— if Rick wins, I’ll switch my vote.
Until then, Rick can fry ice.
Newt will very likely take Bama and Ole Miss should follow suit.
As you may recall, Newt was leading in an Alabama poll about 3 weeks ago during his low point in the aftermath of Romney’s $20+ million BS Florida ad blitz.
Baloney!
I’m in Mississippi and I’m all in for Newt Gingrich and going to see him tomorrow!
Now THAT is THE team to save the Constitution!!!!
see my new tagline....
Vin,
Happy Tuesday. Beautiful weather here in Annapolis today. Hope it is beautiful in your area. I agree with you post except for lobbying for Newt’s co-chair in Tennessee. That might have been a great idea since it helped him there. The bigger question is why would the co-chair leave Newt just because Santorum was asking.
Hiya naps!
I’m going to go see Newt tomorrow so I’ll report back on his crowd and my coveration.
I hope the one issue voters don’t ruin it for Newt Gingrich, but it’s a possibility.
Very hard economic times here, and that should have meant an easy victory for Newt Gingrich, but now with the Evangelical vote, it’s up for grabs.
