Newt was on Bill Bennetts show this morning. He sounded very tired (to be expected) but encouraged that he had done well and picked up his home state. He sounded committed to the idea of promoting his values and agenda.
Neither of these two, Santorum and Gingrich, really want to get out but they are both realizing that America's third choice is careening towards a delegate victory. If neither of them is going to get out, Gingrich and Santorum need to have some Lincoln Douglas modified debates that exclude the two liberal candidates.
I think they would begin to siphon back some of the protest votes going to Ron Paul as well as pull back some of the follow the leader votes that have been drifting to Romney.

I’m down with that. Newt’s muh man but Rick is my backup.
Exclude the others and air some real ideas.

I think that would be a tremendous idea. Doubt it will happen, though.

Just play the video, not one new word would be spoken. And it would be a waste of time.

A lack of debates aren't what got us to the present state of affairs. More debates with only our conservative amen chorus invited is not going to change the situation.
Seven reasons for Rick Santorum
- Who has won the most states without the benefit of their own money, last election's organization or a billionaire casino sugar daddy?
- Who is everybody's second choice when he isn't their first?
- Who can get both the Romney people and the Gingrich people, who hate each other, to vote for him?
- Who has the best record on immigration?
- Who has the best plan for repealing ObamaCare? And is the only GOP candidate who didn't help write or approve legislation which helped spawn this fiasco?
- Who has the best plan for expanding the American economy and strengthening American families?
- Who is the closest thing we have to the "generic Republican" which polls show consistently beating Obama and is most likely to make the election about Obama's sorry record rather than about himself?

Won’t happen.
Santorum knows he would get creamed in any one on one debate with Newt.

If both men care more about their country, one of them should be willing to step aside and endorse the other one, in order to keep Romney from winning this thing.
At this point, 55-60% of the voters in most of the states, are not ready to accept Romney as their candidate. If neither one of these two candidates steps aside very soon, then the other 40% will beat the ‘split’ 60%, and give the nomination to Romney.

Santorum and Gingrich - Start Debating Democrat leaders, candidates, and activists Now!
Do NOT wait for the Fall - Start NOW in March!
Certainly they can have discussions and debates together, but we need to see how our candidates go against the Dems now. Rick and Newt and others should debate the Dems at all levels, - national, state and local. Show your stuff, prove yourself now.
Openly challenge BO to discussions and debates in March and April.

I think there is one more debate. There will be no Lincoln-Douglass style debates in the primary or in the general election.
They are going to have to sell themselves outside debates.

Take away the New England liberal states and the states with large mormon populations and what’s left for Romney? Not much!

To: GulfBreeze
Sounds fine. But I'm not sure anything substantial would result that hasn't already been aired over the past dozen or so debates.
Gingrich is no doubt the better orator but Santorum gave as good as he got. I expect the outcome would be the same.

I like the graphic and the synopsis. I can see why Newt’s supporters would lose heart when seeing it though...

I’d love to see it.
And Santorum doesn’t have to worry about Newt “beating” him. In both the “Lincoln-Doublas” debates I saw, with Cain and with Huntsman, in both cases Newt had a way of elevating his debate partner. In both cases they came off well. Newt has that quality about him.

The two liberal candidates are Romney and Santorum.
The two conservative candidates are Gingrich and Paul.
