If you thought men in tights was a sartorial statement best left to medieval jesters, think again.
The underwear staple for women is making its way into wardrobes of the opposite sex - and the look is gaining popularity.
If any were in doubt as to the strength of the trend, it even has its own name: Mantyhose.

I can't be relied on to regularly wear underware. So I'm guessing that I'm not part of the demographic they are marketing to.

Women don’t seem to wear hose at all these days. They just walk around bare-legged, in high heels or flip-flops, all winter long, showing their pale, mosquito-bitten or bruised, blue-veined gams ... for some reason imagining this is “sexy.”
It’s “sexy” like my greyhound lying on her back with all her legs in the air, looking like a dead chicken.

If it's good enough for Robin of Locksley, then it's good enough for those who think they are following in his footsteps.

Seems to me they pushed this drivel in the 70s too. Wow...this really is like living the Carter years all over again.

I remember a TV commercial in the 70’s with NY Jets Joe Namath posing in panty hose/tights. I also recall my co-workers and IU laughing about it in the lunchroom and calling them “manny hose”. Close enough...

I specifically came here expecting to see a Namath reference - and I was utterly astonished to realize that I was mistaken. I did enjoy the men in tights reference however.

It's "de ja vue" all over again; this was tried in the 70's - as you say - using Joe Namath as their spokesman. Joe appeared on TV wearing those things. Back then they were "Mannyhose", as opposed to "ManTyhose".
It was a major dud then, and probably will be now, even if we do have more metrosexual candidates in today's society...huh, obama?

I read or heard somewhere that Farve wore hose under his uniform. Now you can get male athletic tights, which are comfortable.
