Amid all the hullabaloo surrounding the new iPad launch tomorrow, one company, which claims to be channeling Steve Jobs' spirit, declares that the iPad 3 (or HD) will kill the PC, thanks to one new ingredient.
This video fell into my in-box, as if from the skies. It purports to show the iPad 3 with an indispensable component--a standalone keyboard that attaches neatly to the machine.

I think with the tablets you can only have one screen at a time...

Wow, that’s much more magical and ground-breaking than when Asus did it last year. A true game changer.

It would be nice to be able to plug the iPad in to a normal keyboard and/or normal monitor when you wanted that kind of capability.

How many desktop machines will you be able to buy for the price of that? And now you know why it won’t be killing the PC anytime soon.

There are Windowses for pad computers and for desktops but they are different. It would be nice if your pad grokked how to become a desktop when plugged in to the appropriate peripherals, or maybe docked. Linux might be more appropriate for that.

Keyboard wise, you already can via Bluetooth. Now I think it will, via Apple TV, stream the screen to your TV. Not sure about that last one though.

grokked? Isn’t that a scifi Heinlein term?

Can’t be. The iPad was going to kill the PC. They surely must all be dead by now.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to “slave” it to an existing desktop PC, however. Cause its local data to appear in a sub-window of the desktop with real-time sync.

I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a no brand leather BlueTooth keyboard/case I bought from Amazon.
Targus makes a universal BlueTooth keyboard available at Sam’s club for $45.
Yawn!

My Samsung 10.1 has an available stand alone keypad,,, did Apple copy Samsung? And the tab is nice,, but it limits you in ways that a laptop won’t.
It’s nice for portability,,, buy a small laptop will kick its ass.
