By the time the clock was about to hit midnight on FRIDAY, MARCH 2nd, a half-dozen advertisers had used TWITTER to notify their clientele that they had pulled their advertising from RUSH LIMBAUGH's syndicated program.
CALIFORNIA mattress store chain SLEEP TRAIN was the first to announce via TWITTER that it has pulled its ads from LIMBAUGH's syndicated PREMIERE NETWORKS show after the host referred to a college student testifying about contraceptive availability as a "slut," then demanded that women on the pill provide sex videos since the government mandates insurance pays for the pill -- comments LIMBAUGH asserted were made as a form of absurd humor.
The chain, which operates in the SACRAMENTO, SAN FRANCISCO, SAN DIEGO, CENTRAL VALLEY and INLAND EMPIRE markets, tweeted, "We don't condone negative comments directed toward any group. In response, we are currently pulling our ads from RUSH with RUSH LIMBAUGH (sic)."
National advertiser SELECT COMFORT, which advertises its SLEEP NUMBER mattresses on the show, also pulled its ads from the show, tweeting, "Recent comments by RUSH LIMBAUGH do not align w/our values, so we made decision to immediately suspend all advertising on that program." Neither company's tweets indicate for how long the suspension of ads will last.
Later in the day, QUICKEN LOANS sent out the following Tweet: Due to continued inflammatory comments -- along w/valuable feedback from clients & team members -- QL has suspended ads on RUSH LIMBAUGH program."
Apparently, LIMBAUGH only fueled the controversy over his comments about activist law student SANDRA FLUKE and her attempts to testify before Congress in favor of government-funded contraception, saying on FRIDAY, "when the left wants to pretend they have no sense of humor, they are excellent at it. Yesterday in the riff about it, 'Okay, okay, fine. If we're gonna pay for this, at least let us have something for it. How about some sex videos?' If anybody doesn't realize that we are illustrating absurdity here by being absurd and that that is the trademark of this program ... But oh, no! 'Oh, of everything else you've said, that's the lowest of the low. Demanding sex video? Who do you think you are?' Lighten up. I remember using that phrase all the way back in 1989: Lighten up."
He later added, "now, at the end of this week, I am the person that the women of AMERICA are to fear the most. What can I do to the women of AMERICA? Do I have the power to raise their taxes? I do not. Do I have the power to regulate their behavior? I do not. Do I have the power to make health care decisions for them? I do not. Do I have the power to withhold birth control pills from them? I do not. Do I have the power to audit their tax returns? I do not. Do I have the power to take their little four-year-old kindergarten student's lunch and throw it away and make 'em eat something else? I do not. Do I have the power to look into their personal life and leak the information to the media? I do not. Is there one bit of freedom that I can deny them? Can I raise their taxes? They want to blame me as being the person they should fear, when in fact the people doing all these things I just said I have no power to do, the DEMOCRAT PARTY (sic) is doing."
Once The Dominoes Start Falling....
LIMBAUGH'S rant certainly didn't quell the furor, as LEGALZOOM then tweeted that it "has suspended all advertising on the RUSH LIMBAUGH show."
Next to be heard was CITRIX, which went on FACEBOOK to announce, "We have listened to our customers & have decided to cease our advertising on The RUSH LIMBAUGH Show immediately."
But that may not be all, as PRO FLOWERS tweeted to its followers: "Rest assured, your feedback is heard. We heard about the comments and we will reevaluate our marketing plan."
What's more, CARBONITE CEO DAVID FRIEND posted this open letter to his customers:
Over the past two days we have received a tremendous amount of feedback on RUSH LIMBAUGHs recent comments. I too am offended and very concerned about his comments. LIMBAUGHs remarks have us rethinking our future use of Talk radio.
We use more than 40 Talk show hosts to help get the CARBONITE message out to the public. The nature of Talk radio is that from time to time, listeners are offended by a host and ask that we pull our advertising. This goes for conservatives like LIMBAUGH and progressives like STEPHANIE MILLER and ED SHULTZ. We even get customers who demand that we pull the plug on NPR. As an advertiser, we do not have control over a shows editorial content or what they say on air. CARBONITE does not endorse the opinions of the shows or their hosts.
However, the outcry over LIMBAUGH is the worst weve ever seen. I have scheduled a face-to-face meeting next week with LIMBAUGH during which I will impress upon him that his comments were offensive to many of our customers and employees alike.
Please know your voice has been heard and that we are taking this matter very seriously.
If she even tries that crap, sooooooo much more about her past will be dug up and exposed.
I stand with Rush Limbaugh. Think I'll be ordering some cases of his iced tea...
When the Jimmy Fallon show greeted Michelle Bachmann with “Lying Ass Bitch”, how many advertisers did they lose?
Thank you for the contact info. Just emailed Carbonite and let them know if they bow to left wing pressure they’ll never see a dime of my money (was considering trying them out).
Considering everything she’s been involved with over the last decade (she’s no innocent little law student, fresh off the farm), I don’t think she’ll get to first base ..... at this point, she’s probably considered a public figure.
Tea will be nice while I peruse my new subscription to Rush’s website.
Check my post #88...she turns out to be a 30-year old women’s activist!
Article by all access music group??? Sounds impressive. Continue cleaning out your used underware drawer Rush, we’re right behind you. “B” BREITBART
It begins as a pretend jewelry ad, in which a young man screws up the courage to ask his beauty to marry him (and does she look sweet). The moment she opens the box holding a diamond engagement ring, she looks at him in surprise and apparent gratitude and pleasure while asks for her hand in marriage...
Then, she announces that she is seeing his best friend who then tips his head into the image telling him "tough luck, she's really sweet" and she announces they are about to take off for a trip to Hawaii. The suitor asks why she never told him about her preferences. The Quicken guy in the seat at the next table then goes on to announce that his company will always keep you in the loop.
Unbelievable. Vile. Sickening. Evil ad.
Quicken Loans is celebrating licentious depravity, dishonesty, cruelty, and greed, while trashing the effort it takes to be a decent clean young man committing his life to a woman to build a family. They are teaching young people that it is just not worth doing the right thing.
I have been a Quicken and TurboTax customer for years. Quicken handles my Visa settlements. I have taken out a home refinance through that company believing that they operated with high integrity. They won't ever get one more dime out of me. They will be getting a letter.
I read about that earlier! Doesn’t surprise me one bit that she was concocted by the Dems for this ‘created crisis’...i.e. attacking Christianity/Catholicism. This was there plan all along.
I’m watchin w/ Marty Feldman eyes so far...I wanna see all angles this weekend before I conclude an attack
WE NEED TO BE HEARD!!!
I am a member of golf's lower 99%.
I am an indifferent and fundamentally substandard golfer; there's no way I could ever make it to the professional level. I will never put in the practice time to be the best. I will never have the shots, skills, or mental toughness to "make it" in the sport. I just never felt like working all that hard at it.
However, I am a part of the golfing community and, as such, feel I should be paid by the top 1% of golfers for what I do. It isn't fair that those players who have worked harder, have studied the game, have better equipment and are more skilled and dedicated should make all that BIG money.
Where's my share? I'm a Victim!
The top 1% should pay for my club memberships and green fees and lessons, buy me new clubs, balls, clothes and shoes, and pay me some of their winnings. They can afford it. They are "The Rich." The whole system should be changed to accommodate people like me. I think we should get together and occupy a golf course and demand that those who are better at what they do, pay for those of us who generally suck.
Whining should get us something - maybe we'll make the cover of Time Magazine, garner some public sympathy. Heck, during this election year we may even get a law or two passed by legislators who want our votes.
This will not intimidate Rush. In fact, it can be turned back on the left and the advertisers. Did they pull out when conservative women were called bitches, sluts, whores, and c***s, and t**ts, etc. No. We can also boycott if they don’t pull out of other programs where this has happened. We can also boycott them for pulling out of Limbaugh’s program.
The left is fighting this viciously because they are LOSING!!!!!!!!!
We have to keep fighting back stronger and stronger. No concessions. No apologies. Never.
Exactly. If you were to “follow the money” you might be surprised (or not) at who is/was involved in this plan.
it’s a wag the lesbian moment to overshadow Sheriff Joe sayin the docs are fakes.....sadly el Rushbo helped flame the leeward winds of distraction
I hate Quicken and TurboTax. They are scum. They should be boycotted for many reasons.
LOL @ pic!
I just called Select Comfort, Carbonite and Pro Flowers and gave them a piece of my mind.
Apparently, they’ve all set up a “special” phone line for messages regarding this.
GeronL....I ESPECIALLY mentioned your post about their slut walks and sluts for choice rallies they held just a year or 2 ago and told them to google it (I’m sure they haven’t turned off their google as most of us have done).
I also advised them that those people “protesting” their companies CANNOT afford their products, however, Rush listeners can and do.
I told them to look forward to their immediate sales DECREASE.
I don’t think they’re truly motivated by defending her as much as they are by attacking Rush. Miss Fluke is just a tool they’ll throw under the bus after she’s served her usefulness to them like they did with Cindy Sheehan, Jeremiah Wright and the father of Bristol Palin’s baby.
