Santorum talked himself out of the nomination
Charleston (WV) Daily Mail ^ | February 29, 2012 | Don Surber

It’s crunch time. I am not going to sugarcoat the news for conservatives. Hate me all you want, but Republicans have just about picked their nominee. Forget these headlines such as Paul Belaga’s “Romney Wins Michigan and Arizona, but Political Tourette’s Is Costing Him” or CNN‘s “Romney survives Michigan as all eyes turn to Super Tuesday” or the New York Daily News‘s “Mitt Romney avoids Michigan disaster, but has ‘blood on him’ heading into Super Tuesday: experts.” God does not roll dice with the universe, and neither does the Republican Party.

I am looking at the plurality wins in Arizona and Michigan and thinking Rick Santorum bit the dust, and it is his own fault.

The conventional wisdom is that Tuesday resolved nothing. From the Associated Press:

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Mitt Romney is trying to capitalize on twin victories in Arizona and Michigan as the GOP nomination race expands to the 10 states that vote on Super Tuesday.

Rival Rick Santorum, who narrowly lost in Michigan, faces splitting the conservative vote with Newt Gingrich as the former House speaker counts on Southern primaries to revive his campaign.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul remains a factor as he attempts to mine delegates in caucus states like North Dakota, where his campaign team says the process plays to his strengths. Super Tuesday is March 6, just three days after Saturday’s Washington state caucuses.

Romney’s slim victory — 41 percent to Santorum’s 38 percent — in his native Michigan raised questions about whether he would change his strategy. He acknowledged Tuesday that he had made personal mistakes in recent weeks and said he was trying to “do better and work harder.”

Little Ricky the Preacher is a joke, and should have dropped out after SC. The strongest candidate- Newt, would be sailing to the nomination. Obama will now easily destroy Mr. Mormon Romneycare quite easily.

...it is his own fault. ..Santorum's rambling, off topic speeches, and inability to focus (along with a lack of ground organization) shows, unfortunately, he is just not ready for prime time this go 'round.

Santorum and Romney are absolutely not concise speakers, nor are their records conservative inspite of their “severe” rhetoric.

Now, now... you will find greater peace if you don't invest so much emotional energy into any one candidate... breath in, breath out, and repeat after me... "oh-wha-tagoo-siam, oh-wha-tagoo-siam"... keep chanting till you find greater understanding of the chant... then laugh a little...

Huckabee redux.

Newt was always the conservative threat to Romney.

But wave the red flag of abortion to single issue social conservatives and they fall for it everytime.

Spot on. I was prepared to vote for him and did so on my write in ballot which I sent 2 weeks ago. But last week, his idiotic social issue crap on issues NO ONE is discussing, just lost me. Who gives a poop about gay marriage when it is currently settled, AFAIAC.
There is only ONE issue. Get the idiot demon out of office.

I know there are those who are concerned with all of the health dangers in homosexual sex, but that is minor when you consider that if 0 wins again, homosexuals are possibly going to be shariaed to death.

Not everyone agrees. I am listening to Chris Horner, Frank Gaffney, Micheal Ledeen on the radio.

They don’t seem to think “little Rickey” is over at all.

Little Rickey happens to have more delegates than Newt.

So perhaps we should be asking “Little Newt” to drop out.

He couldn’t get more than 6.5% in Michigan. If it wasn’t for Newt, Rick would be sailing to the nomination.

It is always easier when you have no competition. That is why Newt asked Rick to drop out after Newt won one state. LOL

That may be, but Romney will most likely lose the general. He makes endless “rich man” gaffes and is hopelessly stiff and uninspiring on the stump. Money has enabled him to pummel his opponents without much response, and he seems to have most of the Republican establishment pulling for him. Despite his advantages, he barely scrapes by, though. So hoorah for Romney, yeah, whatever.

Yep. If Newt drops out, Romney is toast. Rick needs to dangle something in front of Newt that he wants. But what would it be besides POTUS?

So who has been getting their vote for the last forty years?

Honestly, what is it with FReepers today? Is there nothing too stupid to say if it makes a pseudo-pithy sound byte?

I think they mean the media talked him out of the nomination. The media decides what the sheeple are allowed to hear.

Secretary of State or Secretary of Education

But there is no guarantee that all of Newt’s vote would go to Santorum.

Limbaugh and Levin have spent the last month extracting Santorum's foot from his mouth and telling us what Rick really meant to say.

It is unfortunate that someone with so much education can come off as an inarticulate buffoon as often as he does.

Very profound analogy. Santorum is elementary in his speaking and debating skills. He thinks if he keeps on talking, something will stick, instead he gets in trouble. Obama would cream him.

Santorum’s robo calls to democrats hurt him. It likely caused more Republicans to vote for Romney. It was politically stupid since the democrats were already doing these calls for him.
