Most Americans do not know this, but a single EMP attack could potentially wipe out most of the electronics in the United States and instantly send this nation back to the 1800s. If a nuclear bomb was exploded high enough in the atmosphere over the middle part of the country, the electromagnetic pulse would fry electronic devices from coast to coast. The damage would be millions of times worse than 9/11. Just imagine a world where nobody has power, most cars will not start, the Internet has been fried, the financial system is offline indefinitely, nobody can make any phone calls and virtually all commerce across the entire country is brought to a complete stop. A nation that does not know how to live without technology would be almost entirely stripped of it at that point. Yes, this could really happen. An EMP attack is America's "Achilles heel", and everyone around the world knows it. It is only a matter of time before someone uses an EMP weapon against us, and at this point we are pretty much completely unprepared.

There is one prescription medicine I take daily.
I am able to get it refilled 25 days after the previous fill.
Done repetitively, you can accumulate an extra month’s supply every six months.
You will, however, need to get your doctor to renew the prescription after 10 months, since you will have used your allotted 12 refills for the year in that time.
Make it Hollywood or Chicago or Boston (Harvard) ...then we'll talk.
Cheers!
What if the launch point is a ratty old just-scuttled boat in the middle of the ocean?
“I dont see that the blast radius would be linear as that maps suggests.”
It would. it’s based on Line-of-Sight - not a “blast” per se, more of a zap.... Near the center, per unclassified models, it’s 50,000 V/m, near the edge, it’s on the order of 20,000 V/m.
“For one thing, the strength of the pulse would be inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the earth, just like any electromagnetic force”
This would be true if it were a point source - but the energy comes from a very large area in the atmosphere above the earth, so it’s “near-field” and inverse square does not apply.
“The curvature of the earth would make both the east and west coasts even further away from the center than the map suggests and the pulse would be further weakened by then.”
The map does account for that. The decrease is more linear, rather than inverse square because it is a highly distributed source.
Good comments, though.
I believe Hollywood is in the San Diego Los angels corridor and that Boston is in the Washington New York Boston corridor?
Most of the work I did with that was considering point sources, just for ease of calculations. For what we were dealing with, that was all that was necessary.
Not if they're stuned!
“Most of the work I did with that was considering point sources”
It’s not an unreasonable assumption. The energy comes from the gamma rays of the nuclear reaction. They strip electrons from the thin atmosphere from the detonation point outward for quite some distance, hence the “near field” requirement - which at first glance defies logic.
All I know is electric service in my neck of the woods is iffy on a good day. Let a squirrel run across the wires and the electric used to go out. Cable, same thing. They’ve improved things over the years but just last winter during the brown/blackouts transformers blew when they turned on/off the service. One can only imagine what it’d be like in an uncontrolled situation be it natural or otherwise.
EMP stands for “Electro-Magnetic Pulse”.

The Soviets did extensive damage with a 300KT device detonated at 93 miles.
“Galvenized garbage cans will work as well. Any conductive container will work. Insulate the items inside from the metal as well.”
The problem with this is the seal on the lid. The energy from an EMP propagates in at least two ways - one in free space, another through “skin effect” along the outside of a conductive surface. The lid of the trashcan has to fit tightly, and with electrical uniformity. This is unlikely in a hardware store garbage can.
You can improve the chances by taking steel wool fragments (not the kind with soap) and place it along the edge of the can and placing the lid over it so that there is a more uniform seal - sort of an impromptu RF gasket.
You don’t need to have the insulation on the inside unless whatever you are storing requires it, or needs shock protection.
It’s not mil-spec, but it’s probably about as good as you can get without breaking the bank if you have a concern about electronics that you want to store. Maybe it would do the trick - but there would be no way to know without expensive testing.
Try ordering from a European pharmacy via the web.
As long as it is not a narcotic or steroid, it is quite legal.
I have one med that is herbal. I plan to buy the plant so I can make my own in an emergency.
BTW, if there was a real CRASH, raising herbs for meds would be a great survival skill. Probably need to team up with a pharmacist and organic chemist.
You could pick up a few gold coins if you are the only one who can manufacture meds.
good points, thank you
They no longer need boats, they are building launch sites in Venezuela thanks to Chavez. With their current missiles they can reach the eastern half of the US with a 1 ton payload.
Yes, but an EMP needs to be launched on a rocket. A rocket gives you a launch point. A launch point gives you a target. And EMP doesn’t do a darn thing to a submerged sub. So while one EMP will wreck the US economy, a hundred or so Trident II D5 missiles are going to wreck the whole day of whoever launched it.
