Prominent GOP Senator: If Romney Can’t Win in Michigan, Party Needs Another Candidate
National Review ^ | February 17, 2012 7:09 P.M. | By Katrina Trinko

“If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate,” said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity.

The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not.

“We’d get killed,” the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up.

Actually, we never needed or wanted Mitt Romney and his Progressive Liberal record.

We have two conservatives still in the race, of the two, I prefer Newt, but I can vote for Rick.

I cannot and will not vote for Mitt Romney ever.

It would also be nice if we did not have a so-called conservative media that stabs the conservative movement in the back and falls into line with such pretenders as Mitt Romney.

The National Review is one such traitorous organization.

I think some are misunderstanding what may be going on....The Establishment (RINO’s, Bushes) WANT a brokered convention so that their GUY gets the nomination if Mitt can’t win outright which is looking less likely.

They want to deny whoever else is in the race the nomination and convince the delegates “Hey, we only got two months to defeat Obama, lets go with a tried and true, sound, sensible and steady guy to face him”

Yes, I’m tired of the Bushes, You are tired of the Bushes and Yes most Americans are tired of the Bushes...But the GOP Establishment is “certifiable” and is comfortable only with “THEIR” kind.

Look at what they tried to do with Reagan even when he won the Presidency...they couldn’t stop him but they were successful in putting a bunch of Establishment-types staffer in his second term to try to control him and look at all that happen bad with those people in there during Reagans second term.

That’s why I’m saying that maybe Sarah and Newt knows that the Establishment “ISN’T” going to go away into the night if Mitt can’t win.... and she knows that somebody (another true conservative) has to step up to the plate as well if he can’t get enough to win outright

What the heck does that mean?

Has the "party" now admitted it has already selected its candidate?

Clue to the Gop-E: we will not support Romney ever. Ever.

Read the above line closely.

“Has the “party” now admitted it has selected its candidate?”

Sure sounds that way.

I'm curious- does anyone think that Palin has a chance in a brokered convention? Even if she is nominated, what about all the state filing deadlines that she has (PROBABLY) missed?

And, now, the GOP-e realizes that we do not want to fall in line behind Daddy’s Boy.

Whoever this “anonymous senator” is, he can go pound sand.

What an absurd idea, to ignore the voters and just circumvent the primary process. Santorum is gaining all kinds of momentum, and may very well crush 0 in the general. There’s nothing wrong with that scenario... :-)

On the other hand, I’m pretty sure the GOP establishment can come up another loser RINO without half trying. :-P

One more reason we MUST put in the relative outsider, Newt. We simply MUST. This kind of arrogant party hack needs to be swept out by a new generation of conservatives being elected into the senate and house.

This is exactly the type of thing he was trying to get done on his first trip through the Washington meat grinder.

We put Newt in, he might, just might, be able to start turning this party around at its leadership level. This is it. We do it now, or we don’t do it ever.

Go Newt. Win this thing so we can start to drive this kind of trash out of the Republican Party.

The answer to your question is that once it goes brokered, all previous bets are off. It was actually before primaries that it was done this way at the convention every time. Someone came up with the primary process to create the coronation as though everyone in the country had a hand in it and not just smokey backroom dealings like New York still uses that brought us the NY 23rd fiasco of Dede. The press turned into the smokey backroom.

Now as for the Party’s nominee, it is whomever the candidates are for the party for the general election and the Party makes that choice. Or did you not notice that at the convention each of the candidates is also entered into the official proceedings by someone officially nominating each candidate before the first vote is cast?

It’s all a show folks, and the average republican voter is the customer of the P.T. Barnum bag of tricks.

This is the worst sort of story planting. I HATE “sources” who request anonymity. Katrina Trinko could have made the whole thing up. Might as well say an Freeper with close ties to Ithaca believes the citizens of Ithaca believe the Geek economic model is best for the city.

That is exactly what this is. It is an admission that the RINO party has already picked our candidate for us.

I cannot and will not vote for Mitt Romney ever.

I was singing the "anyone but Obama" tune a few months ago. Today, I can't picture casting a vote for Romney even if it installs Obama to complete the damage.
