Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, following his wins last week in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, has now jumped ahead of Mitt Romney in Michigan's Republican Primary race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Michigan shows Santorum with 35% of the vote to Romneys 32%. Well behind are Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 13% and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 11%. Only one percent (1%) prefers some other candidate in the race, while eight percent (8%) are undecided.

Kind of embarrassing for Romney I’m just sayin...
Losing Michigan would be a death knell to Romney’s campaign.
This is great.
These numbers are within the margin of error, the question begs can he hold onto the lead and or expand it.
I spoke with a seasoned Conservative gent today here in Michigan and he is not sold on Rick and at this point is hoping for a Brokered Convention so someone else will emerge, interesting....
I am for Santorum. Strongly.
I think he is the only guy left who has a chance in the general (though I will support the nominee, and do so strongly).
That said, I am really worried about this line of attack that is clearly developing, namely, that “Santorum wants to ban your contraception”.
I think the American people, especially the beloved independents (the same people that put obama there in the first place) are going to be terrified of this demagogic rhetoric. I am not confident AT ALL that the genius independents will be able to see through this. But that’s what’s coming. Plus, if the D’s manipulate the numbers enough, why, we are likely to see numbers of 7.5% unemployment come next October. If the economy is “on the rebound” according to the news media, and if Santorum has only one agenda and that is to take away everyone’s birth control, then, personally, I don’t see how obama can lose.
I am very, very worried.
I hope someone here at Free Republictherapycentral can make me feel better.
Rick should go all out in Michigan. Newt should do the same in Arizona. Split Romney’s attention, make him lose badly in both states and cause him to “re-evaluate” his campaign.
I know, wishful thinking... but I can dream can’t I?
If he can't carry daddy's State that beltway bucket will dry up fast.
A brokered convention will almost guarantee an establishment type gets the nomination. The rumor is that if it does go to a brokered convention the establishment will rally behind Jeb Bush.
FWIW, that may come to bite them in the arse, if the Establishment really wants that, if Sarah's name gets thrown in the hat during a brokered convention.
Good. He’s an embarrassment already for Republicans who are conservatives. For the RINO’s not so much.
If push comes to shove, I will vote for Romney. If Jeb Bush is picked in brokered convention I will not vote for him.
I am a strong Newt supporter, but I’ve been listening to Rush today and I think he is as concerned as you are. He has spent most of today decrying the contraception flap and trying to help Santorum out of the mess.
My theory is that Santorum stepped in it when he said off the cuff that states have the ability (or something like that) to ban contraception. The media is running with it, and I’ll bet Santorum will be asked about this numerous times during next week’s debate.
Like I said, I’m Newt person, but I’d much rather see Santorum the Romney.
If it came down to a brokered convetion I’d sure they’d get some delegates to switch their votes to Romney.
“I’ll write in Palin”
Why not vote for the candidate she is supporting?
Jeb’s on the young side to play Loser Dole or McCain.
Santorum and Newt!
OY!
The insanity keeps growing. The most inept are the most in demand.
