Santorum clashes with Occupy protesters, calls them ‘radical element’

TACOMA, Wash. — Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum clashed with Tacoma Occupy protesters Monday night during his first visit to a state he said would be a “momentum changer” heading into Super Tuesday.

Minutes into Santorum’s speech, protesters began chanting and shouting. They rarely stopped over the next half-hour.

“I think it’s really important to understand what this radical element represents,” Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, told hundreds of supporters gathered outside the Washington Historical Museum. “What they represent is true intolerance.”

Police dragged away two protesters in the midst of Santorum’s speech.

The event took place next to the Occupy protest camp site. Santorum, who trails rival Mitt Romney in fundraising and organization, depended on the Washington Republican Party to organize Monday’s event.

“I understand their frustration. For three years they haven’t been able to find work,” Santorum said after his supporters chanted, “Get a job.”

Santorum is the first Republican presidential candidate to visit Washington state this year. It holds nonbinding presidential caucuses on March 3.

February 7, 2012:
“CHICAGO, Ill. — At an extravagant penthouse apartment in downtown Chicago, The Daily Caller dined with former terrorists Sunday night.

That’s not a sentence one often has the opportunity to write, but on Super Bowl Sunday former Weather Underground leaders and Obama friends Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn feted TheDC to an elaborate gourmet meal at the home of a very rich friend to fulfill the obligations of a charity auction won by Daily Caller editor-in-chief Tucker Carlson.

When the Daily Caller posse arrived — a group that included Carlson and his brother Buckley, Daily Caller columnist and Weekly Standard senior writer Matt Labash, online media mogul Andrew Breitbart, a Daily Caller contest winner and this reporter — it soon became clear that there were many more in attendance than expected. Ayers and Dohrn had enlisted friends such as University of Chicago history professor Adam Green and apartment owner Lisa Yun Lee, among others, to serve dinner, while the two principal hosts sporadically joined the table for conversation.”

"There is no way that a Republican is going against the entire Republican Congress and President."

Thank you...you have made my case.

He's a "sheep" then? I don't want a "go along to get along" president. I don't want a robot to carry the GOP-E party line...we could have that with Romney.

As President - and not using the current one as an example - should be able to stand up for what is right, Constitutional, and fair REGARDLESS of how his party, or Congress, votes.

This nails the reason why the middle-of-the-roaders have congealed around Santorum...he's "safe" for them...he won't "rock the boat". He'll uphold the GOP-E and all of the "moderates" out there.

Sorry, right now we don't need "Richie Cunningham", we need a warrior to kick ass and take names. We have an entire entitlement culture to overcome (look at Greece). That is no job for an appeaser...we already have one of those.

The main thing that is wrong with America today is the wussification of her people...everyone wants to stand in circles, hold hands, and sing "Kum-ba-ya" while rome is burning.

It's fine if you want to curl up in front a warm fire and cuddle with "richie", but don't look now...what's burning is our Republic.

Again, thanks for making my case.

In over 20 years in Congress this is Santorum's record:

American Conservative Union -- 88%

National Right to Life Committee -- 100%

Americans for Tax Reform -- 95%

National Tax Limitation Committee -- 92%

U.S. Chamber of Commerce -- 88%

League of Private Property Voters -- 94%

Its quite esay for anyone not involved in the day-to-day slugfest to cherry-pick votes that aren't "conservative" but if you can find a more conservative politician over the last 20 years that has any kind of shot whatsoever--name him!

Santorum was a leader in the Senate on welfer reform and he had the guts to discuss Social Security Reform.

The RNC hung him out to dry in PA after he rose as a leading conservative in the Senate.

He's not my "ideal" candidate either but he has a stronger backbone and bigger balls than newt/paul/mitt combined; and oh yeah--he is conservative.

WHY do people get so irate - like yourself - just because other people don't support THEIR candidate.

So far - in America - we still have somewhat of a "choice" and somewhat "freedom of speech". I'm just exercising my freedom of speech and indication my current stance on the candidates and issues that are in the news.

So far, I think Santorum is a great, conservative, follower... but we have enough followers in Congress on both sides of the aisle...we need a bold LEADER. Bold is not one of Santorum's traits that I have seen...petulence yes, bold, no. He "joins in" with others and does what they do...that would not be a trait that I would look for in a candidatet

So frankly if you want to get into a snit because I said something about your pick, then go right ahead...but lecturing me certainly will not change my mind.

Having said all that, if Santorum is the candidate, I will vote for him (on an 'anybody but obama' basis), but I was so hoping that we would have a candidate this time around that people could actually get excited about, and not "settle for".

But...you do what you think is right...and so will I.

I'm not irate, if it seems so I apologize, but I want to make a point that Santorum is a conservative and he was a leader in the Senate at a young age (in my view that's why the RNC did him wrong).

Furthermore, he eviserated Madame Boxer on partial birth abortion, he took strong stands on SS, welfare reform and other conservative issues through-out his time in DC.

Plus, anybody w/ over 20 years experience in the legislature is going to have votes that can be second guessed (unless he only votes "present").

And I think getting "excited" about a politician is how we got ourselves into this mess to begin w/. But I have an open mind so please feel free to question Santorum's record, better now than later.
